50th Anniversary of Shirt Sponsorship next season!!! (Can you believe it?)
As we look forward to the new 2025_2026 season, January 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of Kettering Town's pioneering and ground breaking innovation of the introduction of shirt sponsorship in England. Beneath is pictured the 'KETTERING TYRES' logo on the shirt front of, if I'm not much mistaken, a certain Mr Derek Dougan in action against..... (a team wearing a striped shirt)

No mention of "Virgin"? Which is a much more appropriate nickname for that lot than "The Eagles".0

I hate to say it, but as a rum drinker, a certain club had a great sponsor mid 90s imo 😬0

I'm not 100%, but think it's Bath City. Kettering were the top non league side of the day, and run into trouble for using the sponsorship after playing Bath. Colchester were a league side then. There's a narrative surrounding it on Kettering Town's wiki page history if you're interested. It is Derek Dougan pictured btw.Covered End said:
