Women's world cup - 48 teams from 2031

Absolutely insane number of teams, when there are really no more than 10-12 competitive teams. Not sure why FIFA are expecting another 35 or so to all of a sudden magic up competitive teams from in six years.

Oh, silly me. It's not really about the competition, is it? 💵 💵 💵

  • With this many teams of such varying standard they should do a preliminary knoxkout round before the group games. They won't, of course. There is surely a better way of investing in women's football

Definitely should have preliminary Knockout rounds first with none of the seeded teams involved.

England's 20-0 win over Latvia in the European Qualifiers for the WC 2023 was enjoyable for English supporters but embarrassing for the women's game when full time professionals play part-timers who are so out of their depth.

32 is too many teams in the women's game and 48 is crazy until they can play more matches with teams slightly better and have top coaches before they play the elite teams like England, Brazil, USA and the last winners, the strong Spanish team.
  • Yes, they should look at the number of national teams that can compete to a realistic level. Of course they should be looking to increase that number but until they do they will get some ridiculous scorelines in the finals that are damaging to the reputation of the game.
