Bigger crowds guarantee absolutely nothing. Leeds, Derby and others are case studies of that.
It’s all about what the players do on the pitch.
Hostile bigger crowds can make a difference.
I find that a myth personally. The Doncaster home game being the biggest relatable example of that. Our crowd was amazing that night but most people forget we lost the game 2-3
I’ve watched the highlights of that game more than any other of recent years, and partly because of the crowd. Up to a point, I think you’ve proved an inconvenient truth, but I think @charlton_hero is right, it wasn’t hostile because we had outplayed them in the 1st leg and then Bielik scored so early. This time, its evens at the start, and we know they are a nasty pub team, so I certainly hope that this crowd is hostile from the start. Certainly Curbs and Brownie seem genuinely to believe it helps.
Not sure we do hostile in terms of putting the other team off per se. The best Charlton crowds have always been about being loud and proud to spur the team on imo. I suppose it will be hostile in terms of they'll know we don't think much of them and their antics. Let the football do the talking.
Let's be honest here, we're not even in the running when it comes to hostile. Hostile is Millwall.
Many of our fans complain if they have to stand up and having sat in the west for games when The Covered End is closed if you shout out or God forbid swear, half the people turn round and look at you
Is Millwall hostile? It’s always half empty. We bottle it there but that’s more to the occasion than any crowd.
Thanks (🙄) to family I have been to Millwall games where it has been incredibly hostile. And one of the most hostile games was an early round League Cup tie v Birmingham City in front of about 7,000! When they play us it is more like a local derby where mates & family turn up & know Charlton mates & family (like me), doesn’t compare to their ‘hooligan fixtures’. Another one I remember vividly was a Friday night league game v Wolves. It was genuinely like going back to the 1970s! Same with that Everton cup tie a few years back.
And tbf they average 15-16,000 these days, and have plenty of sell-outs, like it or not, they are growing as a club and that’s why I am desperate that we get back up. Last decade or so has been horrific living with a Millwall fan!
Should have used the playoff semi as a perfect game to test run the away fans in the West Stand. Give them 2k tickets at the end of it and put us all in the Jimmy Seed
I would also make sure the speakers in the Jimmy Seed are at full blast as well when the Wycombe players come out to warm up, return there little trick which didn’t go unnoticed yesterday.
Addicks to Victory on a loop for an hour before the game
I’m all for intimidation, but I draw the line at crimes against humanity.
Personally I get tired of the Sandgaard bashing. He was an extrovert guy with good intentions, out to have his bit of fun, and why not? Life is for the living and if I had loads of dosh and could play guitar, I’d do exactly same thing (except I’d consult with fans to write the songs)
The only thing that counts is that he saved the club. Without he, we’d be lucky to be in this year's National League play-offs. He should be a guest of honour, not ridiculed.

I agree about saving the club totally and I don’t get why most don’t recognise that fact. However looking at how his wealth has contracted recently I suspect he regrets the money he spent on us

1. Good intentions - Have a chat to the staff that either left or remained whilst at the club about his good intentions. 2. To sit with Jacko and his wife at the POTY event, get on a plane and sack Jacko via a Zoom call 24 hours later. 3. He bought the club and PAID Nimer and Southall £1.5m, there is a significant difference to buying and saving the club. He also entered us into a short term lease with RD which is still hanging over us. 4. Guest of Honour - Total insult to so many club servants, for someone who loved telling us what he was watching when he owned us, how many games has he watched live or via a stream since leaving us?

My guess would be none, his social media never mentions us, like he never owned us
Lets not forget they have best away record other than Brum, and believe they have scored more away goals than anyone
Just hope the non red cards don't come to bite us on the arse
The kites were as always a sight to behold…..absolutely amazing. Found myself enjoying their hypnotic acrobatics more than the game…..from time to time.
I was also mesmerised by the kites. We had a visit earlier todsy from one who took a piece of chicken from our garden
I thought Wycombe were a phsical side in December. We are a physical side too but I think it comes more naturally to us. Wycombe tried to match that on Sunday and it was a partial success but they could have had a couple sent off if the ref was half decent. I say partial because they didn't win their home leg. I think they will try that approach again as what else do they have and that is something us fans can really get on top of in terms of fouls.
A big positive will be Small starting. Watson tries but doesn't give us much and he is prone to errors.
I don't think Small will even make the bench. I was in the front row of the stands, close to the right wing position Small was playing when came on. He held his thigh after the first contact and continued to do so throughout the game. He also failed to chase a through ball from Ramsey and explained through gestures that he couldn't sprint after the ball. Hope I am wrong
hope your wrong as well - can’t see us winning Thursday, let alone at Wembley if your right - he was doing a lot of tricks and leg shaking type trickery though quite a way into his appearance which u wouldn’t do if your struggling surely - let’s hope you’ve got this wrong

I was walking in the Chilterns last year, and sat down on a bench to eat some lunch, while admiring the view. I then felt a thud on the side of my face and heard a whooshing noise, as a red kite had swooped from the sky and stole the peanut butter sandwich from my hand!
Doesn’t AMB have quite a good penalty saving record?
Nope... Faced 17-penalties (during matches) and failed to save any... He did save our last penalty in an actual shootout though against Brighton
Mannion has faced 17-penalties as well, but he's saved one... When he was at Cambridge.
Shootouts are always different to a typical penalty though, so much more riding on the outcome so there is always going to
Neither keeper is good at saving penalties it would almost call for us not playing the keepers during the shoot outs.
Will Norris out of the Goalkeepers from the four teams is surprisingly the one with the best record.
He's saved seven out of 24-penalties that he's faced,
Josh Keeley (Orient) is another who hasn't saved a penalty yet, having faced 12 in his career so far
Corey Addai (Stockport) has saved one penalty, whilst he's conceded 11.
So if it comes down to a Penalty shootout at any stage... Who da f**k knows what'll happen... Its equally about hoping we don't have someone who hits their penalty like Michael Gray... Whilst John Marquis, the one guy you'd expect to score his penalty, was one who missed.
Neither of our keepers are intimidating. The extreme example would be Emi Martinez who really pushes sh*thousery to the acceptable limits, but a bit of that does help to intimidate the penalty taker.

Both AMB and Mannion are a bit nice.
A good keeper needs to be a bit mad. Dillion Phillips was a bit like that! Agree nice is the right word for ours. Would enjoy a beer with them. Need that edge

I hope that thieving bastard has a nut allergy
Something similar happened to me in the garden last week. I was all set with a sandwich and a glass of wine, then something swooped from behind, brushing through my hair, and just missed the food with its talons. It made me jump out of my skin. Theyre big buggers with their wings outstretched.
People do leave food out for them which is daft - encourages them to be much less wary. Theyre like the SAS of the bird world compared to seagull infantry.

I hope we give them a successful clean cut smooth painful bruised bollocks challenge with bit of extra studs early on within the 1st 3 minutes of play when they get a bit of space and think they have an opening.
The ref lowers his whistle instead of blowing it and allows a throw in when he sees 24,000 fans about to go nuts

I love watching them though.
We have a lot round our way and they are great to watch when they soar, especially when the sun properly catches the plumage.
But when they swoop down to rooftop height you suddenly think “f**k me, that’s a big bird!”. Ground level must be scary.

They're birds of prey, swooping for human food in the same way they'd swoop for a rodent.
Feeding them is stupid, the last thing we want is for them to be an urban pest.
Anyone know the dimensions of the pitch at Wycombe compared to The Valley? The pitch at Adams Park seemed very square and on the shorter side of the allowed dimensions, making it look more square - maybe the small stadium makes a difference to how it seems. Yet when I google it, the measurements I'm finding don't support my impression
Sorry if this is is a nobby question, but I am curious

I agree.
I find it hard to believe that their pitch is bigger than ours.
