He’s a mature man on still a very young man’s shoulders. Hope he stays and steps up well to
the Championship with us but if he goes it will be with fond memories and no cry of betrayal etc.

If he wants to go fair enough can’t fault his commitment and dedication when he’s wore a Charlton shirt (unless he goes Millwall). Personally if he was to go think we’re losing more his potential rather than ability. Winger or wingback still only has 5 G/A this season and still believe NJ doesn’t truly fancy him. Be more annoyed with the potenfi loss of money rather than the player going but do wish him the best

Thought Currie kept him quiet TBH…..if he doesn’t want to be here then go…

He won't stay.  He doesn't want to play right wing, he wants to play full back but can't get in the team in that position.  He will go looking for a full back position at another (Championship if possible) club.
Yeah it makes sense. I don't actually think he's got enough end product to be a winger, certainly not at championship level, and certainly not on the right.

He'll be an excellent left wing back for someone. As solid as Edwards has been, I'd prefer Small over him.

I love the bloke but he's not irreplaceable. More concerned about keeping hold of Ramsay
this with bells on. Small is a classically inconsistent young winger whereas Ramsay is absolutely one of our best players week in, week out.

He had a couple of moments where he cut inside of him, in the gap between the winger but he rarely did anything with it.

He’s got a lot to work on still. He definitely won’t be able to dominate Championship level full backs on raw pace and power alone.

Wouldn't mind betting he signed the contract extension this morning if he has any sense, Championship football at a club he seems to thrive at, but he needs to be sorted this week I would have thought, we have plans to make...

Yeah be interesting to see when we get the retained and released list... I wont be surprised if we get a repeat of Jonny Williams from 2018/19 where we say he's been "released" but we'll continue negotiations with him.

I do equally feel for Chuks and Tennai, both of whom I'd be surprised if they're not released, maybe Chuks will be kept on if he signs a deal where its financially beneficial to both parties. But its surely going to feel a bitter sweet moment for the both of them if they're not kept on.

Maybe Orient (genuinely) will be a good destination for the two of them.

As other have said in the post match thread, I can’t see Aneke in any of the post match photos (although not looked at them all)

Really odd especially as he played his part yesterday and nearly, nearly signed off with a magnificent shot.

I don’t see Aneke being offered.

I can strangely see Chuks being offered a year, but no more, whether he takes it or not would be interesting, he did ok in his cameo yesterday...

It's always a sad part of promotions, that you build a real bond and togetherness in the squad to achieve something, then have to let many of those players go. I think players realise his, so make sure they celebrate occasions like yesterday, even if they themselves don't benefit.

Phil Chapple himself celebrated at Wembley in 1998, but was released so never experienced the Premier League himself.

I'd be astonished if he was offered an kind of extension. Chuks has had a great deal out of us, without ever really giving us that much back in return, due to his injury problems.

There has to be better options out there.

He's in the big group shot, but you can only see the top of his head behind Coventry.

I spoke personally to Thierry and asked him if he’s signing a contract to stay and he said he’s staying at Charlton. He may have said it just to pacify me  his words were it’s already done. Don’t shoot the messenger.

    Hope so 😀

sounds like they had already thrashed a deal out which hinged on us being promoted - hope so, he's not the finished article but definitely has the physicality to play in the champ

I imagine his agent pre-negotiated a deal for if we got up. So winning has triggered the new deal. If we had lost he'd have been free to talk to championship clubs

If this is right then for me it’s another sign that things are changing! He would not be short of offers elsewhere yet he chooses to stay with us, that says 2 things imo the club are willing to pay decent wages and he believes we are going somewhere so wants to stay.

Think him staying was based off promotion. Hopefully on a 2 year deal then if we get relegated then we can at least get a fee for him.

Either way, he has done very well this year and if he goes, good luck to him.

I agree its his potential more than anything else that we'd be signing but he'd be stupid in my opinion to go elsewhere as he's had a few clubs already, okay loans admittedly but when I see Blackburn want him I have to think gawd no. I would like him to stay.

I think Chuks mobility in recent games had neen much improved and I hope we can negotiate an appearance based deal. He is an influence in the dressing room and he scares defenders.

    Yesterdays volley was exceptional.

Was walking down Wembley way about 5.30, fans asked him if he was signing on and nervously laughed! Personally I think he will go home and back to Brum. Will be gutted!
West Brom would be more 'back home' I guess.
If he goes, he will leave on a high and get a cheer from me, he has been a big part of us turning our fortunes around.

Like all, I really hope he stays, but I can totally see him playing for West Brom. It seems to fit.

He's not irreplaceable though and as others have alluded to, I totally back our manager to replace him with at least equal talent if not better.

Got him for free and will ha e to spend a significant amount to replace. Keep him and that budget can be spent elsewhere

Out of almost nothing. Only player on the pitch that could have pulled that off. If it had sneaked past their keeper the stuff of dreams. His presence definitely helped us at the end.

That would be an incredibly sensible arrangement, which is why I'm always surprised if it happens.

For his career he needs to be in the Championship next season, so I would entirely understand if he left us if we were in L1 again, but leaving just because of a higher wage packet would risk the momentum he's building up in his career, including England U20 recognition.

A loan player, but our 2019 promotion was similarly perfect for Josh Cullen too, as he also needed to step a level, and could do it with us.

Going up is also perfect for Kayne Ramsay, who needs to be tested at a higher level. Indeed his career has shown perfect progression in the last 2 seasons, considering he was in L2 in January 2024 and will be a Championship player in August 2025 after a season and half in L1.

Biggest concern with Aneke extension is he probably wouldn’t accept a wage decrease and a pay as u play contract but also means we have to have an additional striker on the books and not sure that striker would be happy being out of the squad every week knowing there basically just a rebound from Aneke until he gets injured. Personally think it’s better for a complete reset from the last few years worked well with Dobson and May going even if it didnt look right them leaving at the time
