Away from the on field stuff, the level 2 concourse at Wembley was lovely, with lots of space and loads of bars and food options. BUT strangely not enough toilets, the mens were pokey, while there were horrendous queues for the ladies at HT.
Just rewatched the goal properly for the first time. Their keeper clearly expects Gilbert to take it and sets up the wall accordingly. Really smart from all involved for Gillesphey to take instead
There was a moment someone (I think Docherty) ran up to whisper something into Gilbert's ear. At that moment I knew Gillesphey would take it (and said so)
I wonder if that was to make the keeper think that Gilbert would take it
After all, the one thing Orient know about Gilbert is that he can take a decent set piece, as it was his 2 late corners that we scored from at Brisbane Road after the keeper flapped at them.
Docherty also points towards Gillesphey when he walks away, watching it on replay.
I think had Gilbert taken it, it might have been for one of the runners to connect with, rather than a direct effort.
Morning after the day before. Got to Euston for the 8.40. Loads of red shirts. Blimey, just about to shout out red armeee. And saw standard chartered on. The shirts. It's the glory hunters bus tour. What a day! We just know how to win ugly don't we! Love it!
When we scored you sort of knew we would play to our strengths and defend it. Our record shows that we can over and over again. Not great for the heart but absolutely no team at this level have gone behind to us and won. It wasn't about being a great game, it was about winning. A word for Orient. I'm sure we all wish them the best for next season. What a great job Wellens has done there.
I came down from Norwich and myself and an other Addick were in a table seat with two O's fans. Decent blokes. They have had their dices with oblivion. It's proper a club with a loyal band of supporters.
I know Barry Hearn who sold them a few years back whinged on about it but let's not forget that the powers to be f*cked them over by allowing Wet Spam to move to the Olympic Stadium.
They now have American ownership and I wish them well.
What a bloody day that was! I had a good feeling as soon as we got the free kick that it was going in but wasn’t particular confident before the game started I must admit.
Just catching up on all of the interviews and videos now to re live it all over again 😁
A fantastic day. No need to write a novel, but enjoyed all things football and non-football. Met some lifers, who were full of enthusiasm, kindness and great conversation.
I'm going to watch the whole game back midweek. The only surprise was that we didn't see Aneke and Godden paired together for any minutes. I have a sneaky feeling that Godden would have either created or scored to make it 2-0 in the final 20 minutes.

My only doubt was if the match ended with penalties.
The Orient keeper has a very decent record saving penalties.
What a day! That’s why I love this club. My son came for the first time in years, the wife has been drawn in this season so much so that I may have to get season tickets for the first time since 89-90 season! Up the addicks, and sending out some Jones man love..

We were on the train from Bromley South at 9.30 and got talking to a bloke & his grandson who had a Chelsea scarf on their way up to Forest. Bloke must have been mid 60's and had no clue about life outside Of The Prem. No idea we were playing, or where !!! No clue about which division we were in & asked "who was you manager all those years back when you were in the Premier League" as he couldn't quite remember.
Had an old lad feint in front of me while being held in the queue for the tube. Didn’t know if he was one of us or an O supporter. But he got helped to the side of the queue. I hope he’s okay whoever you are.
Loving the smoke flares during the game. Anyone know what what chemicals and dyes are used in them as might need to plan ahead with some life insurance?
Was just a few rows in front of me - Tasted absolutely fine!

Best take no chances though mate ring 999 now and get an ambulance!!!!
My middle daughter came to the 2019 play off final and games since when she lived in Walthamstow. She watched from Bangkok yesterday.
My youngest daughter, 17, whom has looked mightily bored at a number of games in previous seasons, has been several times this season and had a great time yesterday.
I caught Charlton football 20 years ago, late at 40, I’m delighted to say it’s truly generational now!

Bloke who set them off got hauled out just after the final whistle
For those watching on the game on sky as abroad or anything else etc
Were Charlton fans a lot louder throughout the whole match? Start to finish?
They were very loud, though I could hear Orient fans whenever they were attacking our goal.
Orient fans were very quiet, and not until the last 10 minutes did they actually start showing some support, we were tremendous from 1st to last minute...

Well done to everybody.
Unless Godden was spent it would've been good to see them as a combination for maybe 10 minutes as TC doesn't win headers so the thought of Matty running on to a flick from Chuks would've been advantageous.
The reason this didn't happen was when Watson came on for Thierry, we went even more into defence mould and defended what we had for a long time so not quite sure why Kanu didn't come on as he's the best presser at the club according to Godden instead of young Mbick.
I agree we had the best back five in League 1 since early January but we defend from the front and the work rate needed from all 11 players from Cafc is paramount. The 3 centre back are the stars of the defending and they are a great combination.
On days when Campbell and Small don't skin their defenders they are still doing good work off the ball in closing down similar to Docherty but I accept that some fan/critics don't see that for some reason but only what they do with the ball at their feet.
Orient looked dangerous on the break (especially Kelman and Agyei). However, they didn't really threaten us other than that 15 minute spell in the second half. Defensively we are unbelievable. Jones is immense and won everything, but the 5 person defensive unit as a whole were on it, and have been for most of this season. Machines. Gillesphey has a wand of a left foot and I'm delighted for him. I filmed the free kick as I just had a feeling that he would do something special.
First half was pretty comfortable, but the second half was horrible. That 15 minute spell from them felt like an eternity, and when the referee disappeared for 10 minutes which resulted in 11+ minutes added on, I really felt like it was the universe trying to throw a curveball in there to give Orient a chance (lifetime of supporting Charlton will give you this PTSD). In retrospect, the 10 minute delay probably went in our favour as Orient didn't really challenge after that and we saw the game out.
Jones seriously got away with it with the Mbick sub who was out of his depth and lumbered about the pitch without much urgency at all. However, Jones has got most subs right this season so he gets a free pass there!
All in all, another win at Wembley and a terrific atmosphere. Lovely touch with the Seb tribute at the beginning. Really looking forward to being at The Valley next season now.
We've spent so many years in recent history primarily discussing ownership problems, countless legal challenges from crooks like Southall and Farnell, owners wives heading up HR departments and god knows what else. How refreshing is it to log in to this forum and just chat about typical topics that football fans should be discussing about their clubs (transfers, player performances, etc) rather than analysing legalities/court hearings around whether we will literally have a club to support.
We now have a team and club moving in the right direction, with murmurings of money in the pot to spend on players, investment around the club, serious staff hires (Chapple, etc) and most key players tied up for another few years (exc. Small). For the first time in god knows how long, there is genuine excitement around the club and, after all the sh*t we've had to deal with in recent times, we really deserve this. Thank you, Nathan Jones.
Having supported the Club for 65 years I got really emotional at the final whistle. I was just looking around at all the celebrations going on. I had my daughter with me who attended the Mendonca Play Off final which made it even more emotional. I was also thinking of the hard times we have had to endure. The dodgy owners, the despair etc. It is important to enjoy the good times when they come along.
Random thing I enjoyed - we all knew the ref had gone off for 7 or 8 minutes literally about 5 minutes earlier, and yet when the 11 minutes added time went up, about 4 people round me went "11? Where's he got 11 from?!" etc.
When we scored you sort of knew we would play to our strengths and defend it. Our record shows that we can over and over again. Including the game yesterday we have gone ahead in 30 games this season. Of those we've now won 29, drawn 1, lost 0. Unbelievable record
Was with some great Charlton lads. We met in Powell's promotion season and were all at Carlisle together. Again we all got to Wembley again in 2019.
More importantly and most special, I was with my dad again. He's 85 has seen it all. Yes even the 7-6! He didn't really want to go yesterday as he's getting a bit tired, but I pushed him into going.
At full-time there were a few tears in eyes and he later thanked me for making him experience another special day.
My daughter was there in 2019 but couldn't make it yesterday as she is away on holiday (with her Man Utd boyfriend), but when she messaged me and said "Love our club", I just went to pieces.
It is these special shared moments that have helped me and dad connect over the years, and now with my daughter.

Still in bed, thinking about the game, celebrations, watching videos.
Got this ringing in my head:
Freed from desire, mind and senses purified

I have our Charlton back.
