Why Mbick instead of Kanu yesterday? Tactical or fitness? Thought Mbick looked overwhelmed
Agree he was probably not ready for yesterday but great experience for him. I think he's ahead of Kanu because he's a bigger prospect. By the time he's DK's age, I think he'll be streets ahead of where DK is now.
I rate Mbick and think it's good he's been involved in the run in as can certainly see him being 3rd choice big striker next year.
Can see why he was on the bench yesterday if we were chasing the game him and Chuks up top with Godden would be perfect for aiming long diagonals at.
I dont think there was any intention of taking Godden off but he looked to have pulled a his hamstring about 10 mins earlier and was clearly giving it everything and massively struggling. Chuks was on to keep the ball up their end of the pitch and win headers. Mbick needed to be the energy and pressing but he just seemed to be running in treacle. Didn't get out of a jog while he was on which frustrated me no end. Kanu would have been much better suited to that situation and likely would have handled the pressure better.
Mbick did look way out of his depth but he’s a young lad coming on in a playoff final defending a precarious 1- 0 lead in front of 76,000 people with so so much at stake. I wouldn’t want to criticise him at all. I’d love to hear Jones reasoning though. He’ll definitely have one.
I was very surprised that Godden came off. If we’d ended up going to extra time and penalties without our star striker it would have been a big talking point post-match. Thankfully that isn’t what happened!
It was certainly an eyebrow-raising substitution. With Mbick being 2 years younger than Kanu, maybe they see him as having a higher ceiling. I'll be interested to see him in pre-season - hopefully we send him to TC's brother over the off season. With Kanu, I think it can click for him at some point, but I think he needs a proper full season, starting every game and banging in the goals, ideally at LG2 level.
If Mbick works with TC’s brother he’ll be as big as Akinfenwa!

We can go bigger! Let's try just for fun.
But yeah, I was mainly thinking of him working of fitness, speed, power. See if he can frighten Nathan more than he already does.

I agree with @cantersaddick, Godden looked to be less than 100% but he was still putting what he had left into closing down. I thought it was the result of a heavy tackle, though.
It was f**king brave to the point of stupid from Jones I thought.
Felt taking Godden off, with just a one goal lead, with penalties still a very distant possibility a bit of a shot in the foot.
Yeah pretty much everyone around us was saying the same, basically Jones put all his eggs in the 1-0 win basket. If Orient had equalised, we'd have been in trouble in extra time with who we had out there.

Keeping Godden and TC fit meant we got away with the lack of depth up front in the last few months.
We need a good group of 5 strikers next season. I think that’ll be Godden, TC, a new signing alternative to TC, a big mobile alternative to Godden and we’ll aim to get Leaburn back to his best.
I hope any of Kanu, Mbick or Dixon are 6th choice at best.
I did think he'd get a L1 loan, seems a bit of a shame that he's spending a season at L2 level. It's easy to forget that he's only 20 though so plenty of time to develop still

If he's successful, then I think the step down to L2 might give him what all decent strikers need to take their game to the next level - confidence. He's clearly got a lot of talent and I think he would be no disgrace in a L1 side, but if he starts banging them in here (which is more likely down a division) then what could be unlocked could be quite exciting.
Not saying he is a "confidence player" but him to get the taste for scoring in men's football would be great for all parties.
I suppose that this is all about him being an almost guaranteed start in League 2 as opposed to being a regular rotated in League 1 when he never was with us in that division. Nathan Lowe got 15 last season for Walsall until he was recalled (and scored just one goal in the Championship) and their second top scoring forward with 12, Jamille Matt, is 35 and has started all three games this season on the bench. Hopefully he will do really well too.
I was against him going on loan last season but after he scored against Crawley but we lost at home, he then "rolled his ankle" twice and most of the 2nd half of the season was lost to him.
Better that he can make an impact at Walsall, who were cruising before the wheels came off when it looked like autos in League 2. If Kanu can play every week he will find his scoring boots and at 20 can still have a good career. I think he's a model pro and being away from home could be the making of him.
I always thought there is a bit of promise in him, and I think the worst thing that happened was when we had to call him back from the Southend loan as we got hit with injuries up top. I felt it stifled his momentum there and inevitably, he came back and played for us, but was then back to sub appearances and not featuring
I really hope he gets the full season, lots of games and he needs to bang in minimum 15 if he wants to give NJ something to think about next season, or secure a move to a decent league one club
Very best wishes Daniel. I think you will benefit from a consistent run in a first team than the rather random deployment you have experienced so far. Get 20 goals mate.

Anderson does a brilliant job when he comes on to close the game down.

But that was in L1, he's not ready for Championship football and a loan would be a good idea.

Hope / pretty confident he gets into double figures and builds from there.
