Chuks (p.61 - Released)
Comments

Although I'd prefer to forget last season, our better runs mostly coincided with Chuks being available. Dread to think how much worse it could've been without him.16
-
Leaves the club in the same division he joined us in, fair enough, always be welcome back at The Valley2
-
Good luck Chucks always enjoyed watching you and wish you every success in the future whatever that is Thanks for the memories0

Just seen the released list. Gutted more than surprised by this.My lasting memory of Chuks will be a Lincoln supporting work colleague seeing Chuks come on as a sub against the Imps and she immediately asking “OMG who is that angry man…?”
Chuks was pumped up and focused.
All I could reply was “That’s Chuks Aneke and he is a player that is about to terrorise your back line”
Summed him up I think, on his day unplayable at L1 level and I hope he gets a decent club elsewhere if he is continuing playing. Best of luck Chuks!7 -
This season he's been playing at 70%. He looks like someone trying not to get injured1
-
My favourite player in recent seasons, loved Chuks bully boying defenders and how he would come onto the pitch with his hands pointing to the heavens. I'm so glad Chuks final game was as a Play Off winner on the Wembley pitch. We will never know exactly what the issues were that stopped him playing a full match, it must have been soul destroying to have to fight his battles both physically and mentally but one sensed that he is a resilient man. He was clearly a great mentor for the younger players and a positive member of the team. I'm sorry to see him go but its the right decision and I wish him the very best, whether getting a contract for a lower division club, coaching or in business. When he comes back to the Valley he will get a great reception as he is in a way abit like Carl Leaburn a cult hero.16

I still expect someone on here to say “what about a pay as you play” deal come September when he’s a free agent and yet to be picked up

All the best Chuks, so pleased you have been part of our club folklore3
-
Good luck to him, great watch on his day.0

I have no doubt that he was trying this season, just he's not what he once was. Like an old boxer that so much wants to compete with the younger fitter fighters, his pride pushed him to the limits of his physical capacity.
It's time that he ends his time at Charlton, but it is definitely with his head high. Maybe not a club legend, but one that will forever be remembered and always welcomed back.7 -

Fitting end to his Charlton career, such a shame his body cannot allow him the football career he deserves, a fit Chuks would at least grace The Championship, sadly I can’t even see a league 1 club giving him a decent contract, more likely pay as you play, he deserves so much more than that. I remember my son was lucky enough to win a behind the scenes experience for Solly’s testimonial game, it was Chuks debut at the Valley, afterwards in Bow’s office, I said christ Chuk’s is a handful, Bow and Andy Marshall both laughed and said he is a beast7

I wish him well in whatever he does. His cameos were often match changing but there’s a but coming. His five years back with us on what for us is alleged to be very serious money and I don’t know what it was has been a real drain on resources and in brutal terms nowhere near value for money. I imagine his contract aligned against his game time have prevented us from signing better players. Not Chuks fault in any way but he’s been a loveable disaster for us.5

Shame he couldn't have just sneaked that one in at Wembley that would have been a terrific ending to his Charlton career. Still, it was a great occasion to finish on. Up until recently, it's always been exciting when he came on. Recently though it has felt like he's been struggling a bit and maybe a bit too desperate to be the goalscorer again at times. It's been fantastic having someone as skilled and committed as him in the team. I wish him all the best with the rest of his career.3

Loved him and I wish him all the best.
At the end of next season I fully expect him to be an ever present for his new club.🙂2 -
I think it is the skill of our off field team that enabled him to do as much as he did this season, and he leaves happy memories. We were fitter and more resilient this season so less injuries, this contributed massively to our promotion.3
-
Hopefully we can pick him up for a few hundred grand in January...8
-
Played his part as well as his circumstances would allow and I think with the new medical and fitness team we got more out of him this season than last.
I was always glad to see him come on, he was always a good watch, looked dangerous and gave the opposition more than enough to worry about. If we can find someone even not quite as good as a fully functioning Chuks we'll have quite the player on our hands.
All the best big man.1 -
I'm pretty sure two wrong offside decisions, one v Millwall, prevented him from saving us from relegation from the Championship. Wising him the best and hoping he gets to do what it is he wants to do now.3
-
A fair decision. His fitness cannot be relied upon, but he certainly tried to give it his all when he did play, as per the previously mentioned point that was only 70/80% of what others were doing... And he still looked like he'd do something.0

At least one year too late. Maybe more?
But good luck Big Man. Thanks for the memories - even if some of them seem a bit warped by time, going by the comments on here.
At least this may now, finally, put this "debate" to bed.1 -
Thanks Chuks. I enjoyed watching you play and it is fitting that your final game for us was Wembley. Whatever you do next, you are a smart bloke and will be successful I'm sure.1

Chukwuemeka Ademola Amachi Aneke time at CAFC has finally come to an end. After 138 apps, 27 goals, over two spells the big man's career is over at Charlton.
I can remember Chuks scoring after 5 minutes from the bench on his home debut but until I checked I didn't realize that was his only goal in 20 apps in 19/20 season.
The snap shot at Wembley which forced a corner was his final cameo. A happy ending with a play off winning medal as homes under the hammer appear to be his side line and interest.
We enjoy a house analogy on CL and our bench warmer is now detached.
Stay healthy Chuks.

Wrexham love a +30yr old striker with a big name. Maybe he goes there.7 -

Poster X “I think we should’ve kept Aneke, at least he might’ve given them something to think about when we were only 1-0 down chasing the game”1 -
Absolutely the right decision for everyone.
All the best for the future and thanks for everything Chuks.

Despite his form and injuries, he will be discussed more than innumerable others who have gone through our books.Part of CAFC folklore? No doubt.9 -

Nobody before him had that role at the club and it might not be seen ever again but i'm sure he'll be remembered as a finisher and as our first one too.0
