Summer 2025 Charlton Athletic Transfer Rumours

  • Apparently Charlton are moving the goalposts and that’s why Jones isn’t going to Cardiff but he definitely wanted to go, trust me.

Give us the facts and we may trust you otherwise it means nothing
  • Still find the Preston thing odd, their fans haven't really stopped talking about him since the FA Cup game but there's not really been any information from journalists to say they're interested
  • So 5 this afternoon will we get a picture of Jones signing his new contract with two new players either side of him signing for us?
  • Incoming signing? WhatsApp have just posted Jones at Boxpark saying there’s no better time to be Charlton fan and some 👀

    Unlikely
  • Get In
  • Nah it’s probably his contract extension

I didn't realize that Nathan was under contract to summer 28 already. If he now gets a contact extension, are we looking at 2030 🤔
That is great security for Nathan and his family and NJ already said he had good pay outs from Stoke and Saints.

After the "failure" at Stoke and Saints, Cafc's manic pitch preacher has his mojo back and his stock has risen hence the real or false Cardiff interest that will always happen when a football player or manager is successful; goes with the territory at every club.

I see what you did there. Very good.

Scouts honour when I posted this at 10.34 I hadn't seen the breaking news at 10.30 by young Foxy on the other thread 👏🏼

I heard at the weekend from someone who works at Preston and would know, not only are they interested but had agreed terms. Hope it turns out to be wrong, but that is what I was told.

Charlton to Preston feels like a sideways move to me. If say Norwich or someone were interested I would get it but Preston aren't an attractive proposition. Ultimately if they're offering a better contract than us its fair enough I suppose, but play well for us where he is settled for a season and get a bigger move seems more sensible.

Thierry Small has liked it on Instagram. Make of that what you will.
Well obviously that means Cardiff are set to make a stunning qiadruple swoop for Small, Lloyd Jones, TC, and Ramsey.

Wednesday now under a transfer embargo, assume that means they can’t renew Famewo’s contract
An embargo usually means you can't make any new signings that cost a fee. Pretty sure you can offer your existing players a new deal, or sign players on a free. If you couldn't then Reading wouldn't have had a team in recent seasons as they've been under loads of embargoes.

Worth reading the chat on Cawley’s Substack, he’s answering some of the questions.

Ruled out JRS returning due to salary and wages (not surprising).

No news on Small, imagines his agent is fishing around to see what’s out there.

Can’t see FFP/spending limits being an issue.
He’s dashed my hopes re JRS which were sky high after his appearance with the squad at Wembley. It does show the opportunity with loans, though, to get players early in their careers that end up out of our sights. Same with Gallagher. Will be interesting to see if we use the loan market much this coming season.

    It’s a sign, it’s a sign, I tell ye.

Yes, but if you're never getting paid on time, you're unlikely to sign it...

I think that’s more than plausible. He’s been in negotiations with us for months and shown no inclination to put pen to paper. You’d have thought that he’d have committed before now with the proviso that we were playing in The Championship. He’s a silly lad in my view. Preston if it’s true will be his seventh (?) Club and the only one where he’s played to his potential is with us and under Jones. If they’ve offered lots more money than we were prepared to offer then I can see his reasoning but I think it’s actually a step backwards for him in playing terms. Only time will tell but I have a feeling he’ll regret chasing the money at this point.

He may be a „silly lad“, but he is still only a lad, and therefore susceptible to dodgy arguments from an agent who stands to gain more from sending him to Preston than staying with us.

Is that an unfair take, @Swisdom, you may know the agent?

I thought his agent was Jon Fortune...
  • Yes, it is Jonathan Fortune’s agency Two Touch

I think you know the agent. It is Jon fortune, so don't think you can chalk this one down to the agent. It was simply Preston are offering a lot more money than we were.
