Would expect Phil Chapple’s scouting dept. to beyond ex-players
Agreed. As much as I liked the team at the time, the likes of Stuart Balmer, Paul Sturgess and Bradley Allen are all likely to struggle to make an impact
Do we have the cash to splash on the players we desire, Galbraith etc etc ? .. we're probably shopping in Tesco not Fortnums nor Harrods .. still good stuff in Tesco if you shop around
Morgan Fox .. I'd like him back .. never looked comfy at left back i m o, more of a central defender. Issue is, would be 'demand' 1st team football ?
Few comments about Gillesphey .. few say he lacks pace .. Harry Maguire lacks pace, I rate Maguire. Being in the right place at the right time outweighs pace for me .. different era .. recall Bobby Moore
Given our recent record of an Ipswich signing each year, our interest in Scottish players, and our need for another keeper then I wonder if we had scouts watching Cieran Slicker last night.
Would really be a statement if we went for Galbraith now
They allegedly want £4mill for him...
Swansea offered £1m in Jan
my cousin who is a fan and writes their fanzine reckons it will take £1.75m to get him, with add ons
unfortunately, I think that puts us well out
We can't buy a player for 1.75m surely we have the means can't be that grim a budget.
Be surprised if we spend that much in total. Reckon it’ll be predominantly frees and a couple hundred grand here and there if we can get a good deal on a player

That's pathetic then tbh have owners with the equivalent of 5000 million I just read but can't have a transfer budget of 5-10 million which is pretty much peanuts and standard in this division after promotion TV deals season ticket increases kit deals, of course it's all speculation and they might make a go of it but it depends how serious they are in improving and staying In this division if we follow the cheapskate route it will be torturous season ahead and we have already done the get rid of our exciting players start to business which we usually do.
I thought I read some time ago that our owners don’t really have that much money, or their money is tied up in some way and not available to chuck around. Thats why a no transfer fee signing, and getting an earner off the books makes sense. I wonder if there is extra wages attached to the Nathan Jones extended contract, or if the extension was the attractive bit for Jones, not a wage increase.
I think if the right player came along then we might be surprised to see how much the club would be willing to spend. Jones and Chapple are well aware of what’s required at Championship level and what the “exceptional” player is going to cost. Having said that those players are in high demand and the competition will have in many cases much more money. It’s not the fee that will necessarily stump us but competing in wages. In any case I think Jones and Chapple have their list and in many cases it’s going to be way below our radar.
I wouldn’t rule out us paying £1m+ for the right player. We must have spent around that on fees in L1, and we get about £11m in TV money compared to around £2m in L1.
No apparently because we haven't signed anyone for a fee yet and Small left, we definitely have no money and are relying on cast offs from the league below.

I think there's definitely money to spend for the right players but I expect NJ and Chapple to be quite particular about anyone that comes in for a significant fee
If Galbraith is available at £1.75m for example I could see that happening. Was Igor really our last £2m+ signing?
Yes he was always quite good going forward, I recall he was involved in the build up to Purrington's goal at Wembley. Now Small has gone, given Djiksteel is available on a free would be good to see him come back in. Think he and Ramsay could compliment each other quite well.
I think Dijksteels best position in our formation would be the one Ramsay is playing. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t sign him though, as he can cover Ramsay and whoever we sign as a RWB

Djiksteel would be a very solid pickup. Could also cover Coventry at CDM too if needed as well as RWB/RCB. I guess the only thing with him would be wages.
The club are pretty focussed on ensuring we build from here and don’t get relegated straight back. Very different from the 19/20 scenario. I doubt we’ll be splashing the cash like Ipswich did or Birmingham and Wrexham probably will but equally expect we have a competitive budget for mid table. Sensible and sustainable investment - yet bearing in mind this is football, we’ll no doubt still be talking losses at or above current levels.

Based on what? We spent more than that in league one, suddenly the owners are going to spend LESS in the division above?

I am glad our signings are likely to come out of nowhere this season.
Dont remember many from last season for example that we knew beforehand, Ahadme and Edwards maybe?

May as well throw in the towel now
