Wont work for us, can make an insightful forward pass and also drive forwards.0

When he came on, Doc was straight in his ear, telling him what he wanted from him. People like Fullah will need strong leadership to help them in their transition to being a squad regular.
Sometimes I think people miss this kind of thing. Or don't appreciate it...14 -
Last season the step was U21 to Div 1. This year I would expect fewer U21 players making the step to the Championship as the gap is much wider and a lot more pressure.0

A new ground for many I would guest. Miles out of town but near the A40.
Unreliable source said a Charlton XI would be playing in Hastings pre-season0 -
How unreliable!!?? Quick drive cross county for me if it happens.0

No releases/retained lost yet seems a bit late (I guess because of play offs).0

Does anyone know if we are going for Cat1 now we are in the Championship?0

If and when they go for another audit or how much has to be done first I don't know.
When Sandgaard didn't get in, it was said it was largely political, as we were league 1, but there must have been concrete reasons given too for denying the upgrade eg facilities or lack of staff or systems.5 -

I did hear at the time that the reason given was insufficient numbers of coaches and there was anger that a lot of the gaps were because coaches had left for other clubs and we had not had time to replace.
Sounded a lame excuse and was put down to them not wanting to give to a club in league 1
There may well be truth in that as we could have been given provisional status like others have.
Really hoping we can get it soon and protect our investments. The academy deserves it.3 -

Much as the first team strengthening is urgent, protecting the academy is vital long term5 -
It would cost two to three million pounds a year to run a level 1 academy, and of course upfront millions for new facilities. Is that? A good use of our limited financial resources.0

Premier league teams are signing our younger players and we can’t stop them.If we r cat1 they will no longer be able to do that.2

Apologies if it has been posted elsewhere, but I do not seem to have seen a full list of released U21 / youth players. Anyone else seen one?0

Yeah, I think those saying that CAT1 will help us keep players or get properly renumerated when they leave are missing the above.
We will get a little more compensation but not enough to put the top clubs off taking our very best talents.
CAT1 may help kids choose us in the first place and also help us hold onto players who look at rankings like that, but it wouldn't stop our best kids being poached sadly1 -
My understanding which might be wrong, is that if you’re cat 1 the teams get to play against ‘better’ players at clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea.
The money thing might help too.1 -

Is spending on things like the academy included in Championship FFP rules ?0

IIRC you can spend as much as you like on academy, facilities, your ground and women's team.
It is just your spend on football wages and fees that counts towards FFP or PSF or whatever it is called this season.
IIRC you can lose up to £39 over three seasons in the Championship so an average of £13m a year.
We lost £13.9m in 23/24 but not all of that will be counted towards FFP.1 -

But longer term it means we can recruit and keep better players.
Currently young local lads and their parents can choose Cat1 West Ham, Arsenal, Chelsea, Fulham or Palace or Cat2 Charlton or QPR.
We still punch well above our weight but Cat1 would make everything easier0 -
I wonder if our youth team scouting was also depleted in recent years.
The team my lad (age 12) was playing for last season had a striker who was invited toz and is currently trialling at Spurs, Arsenal and Palace.
Being in Bromley Palace was no surprise (they have trialled two other kids in the team previously), but I never heard of or saw a Charlton scout watching (the Palace and Spurs scouts were quite open when they came along).
It's a very small sample and, as I said the Charlton scouts might simply be less visible when they watch, just made me wonder.0
