Should sell them all out. The demand was 50k at Wembley.
14% of our Wembley demand to sell out Blackburn away. Easily done.
I realise you are joking, but I have been there when we have taken 200.
Blimey, I'm not sure what the lowest turnout I've been a part of has been.
Barnsley away we tend not to do too well. Port Vale last season seemed quite empty.
Just hoping the excitement of the championship encourages more people to go.
When I was going regularly to away games....late 70's till we left the Valley, 2-300 was pretty much the norm when we played up north.
Went to Rochdale away in the 70s. I seem to remember that the gate was less than a thousand.
Mid 70s - less than a coach load down at the Dell in the game before they beat Man Utd in the cup final. The “ Agro Daddy” tried to keep spirits up by telling us more would be coming on the train… they didn’t. About the same period we often met with Spurs at Euston and their numbers were no better than ours but Chelsea used to fill the whole concourse.
I think the trend of taking big numbers to away games, or at least being expected to take big numbers everywhere (and being called ‘tinpot’ if you don’t) is a relatively new one.
Obviously you had certain clubs who took big numbers everywhere back in the day, the likes of Leeds, Man U, Chelsea. But they weren’t the norm. most clubs would only take big numbers away if it was a local game, or there was a lot riding on a certain game. (And bare in mind this was the days before we had play offs and a lot of these games were dead rubbers with a third of the season remaining.)
I mean we took 400 up to Leeds for a midweek game this season, a few weeks after playing there in the cup (and taking over 2000 there for that). In the past, for a club of our size, that would’ve been seen as a fairly decent turn out, taking in to consideration the circumstances. But we got pelters for it at the time 🤷🏻
I agree with your opening two paragraphs. In the late 70's(when I started going) and throughout the 80's, away followings throughout the country were generally shocking. This was probably due to the fact that at almost any away game you were fair game for a slap from the locals, I'd be surprised if I went to an away game and did not see some sort of grief.
Nowadays away support has possibly picked up due to being able to travel hassle free and enjoy the day.

There is no segregating or holding back the away fans. I have yet to see any issues with home and away fans together. There should be no concerns other than crowd congestion.
I love the logic that you can prevent antisocial behaviour by ensuring that everyone in the crowd is definitely a Millwall supporter.
Ha. I think the main reason thought it was the club were covering themselves
I think they do it because Millwall have a minority that will travel for certain games and cause trouble. Every club has this to different degrees, but Millwall definitely have a larger minority than most and a history and reputation to prove it.
Yes but making it members only won’t stop those people from traveling. The club are covering themselves because if there is trouble they can say they’ve done all they can, and they can trace any members to their seat numbers. No one sits in their allocated seats of course but that’s not up to the away club. We can say we’ve done all we can.
There’s hardly any trouble anymore though. Of course there’s a group who go looking for it with likeminded people away from the ground but I can’t remember the last time I saw trouble at an away game in the ground. Apart from the silly posturing that you get in almost every ground around the country at some point or another

There was this lone nutter at Palace, god knows what he thought he was going to do by himself.

Oh yeah, forgot about that lol, I was there but was down on the concourse still when he did it so didn’t see a thing 😁
Thing is I can understand them doing the members only for local derbies and games v the likes of Leeds, but away to Preston on a Tuesday night? Ridiculous

I find people are a lot less brave when there’s no one keeping you apart. It’s only when there’s a fence or a line of riot police that all the ‘let me at them’ behaviour kicks in.

In league one they mostly let us mingle but for big matches the OB have have lined the entire road with bodies and horses and will not let you cross over. Creates a flash point at the top of the road when everyone then merges to cross over to the station.

The reply I gave was in response to the question of the gentleman being able to get a train after the game.

I agree with that, BUT I have always found that once you got to the top of Floyd Road to make your way to the station all was okay, just the amount of people wanting to use the station.
I stand by my post that the gentleman should be okay getting the train.
I have never seen a problem at the station in any way, have never seen a punch thrown.

From what I hear @SoundAsa£ was prone to a bit of this back in the day
He's still a bit tasty now.
