  • Drivers turn to ferry to avoid new tunnel tolls

  • Most of my work is based in Leyton, Leytonstone, Walthamstow and Chingford.

If I was more Leyton way I’d come in from Greenhithe via Blackwall, partially for timing but also saves my company I work for the toll fee. Now I have to go Dartford which incidentally seems to be slightly busier in the mornings but noticeably busier of an evening.

I’ve been toying with giving the Ferry an occasion go but seeing this has made me realise that’s a bad idea.
  • It won’t be long before a charge will come to use the Ferry and the Rotherhithe Tunnel
  • Needs an act of parliament to change its status - but I suppose that could happen ?
  • As I work beside the Ferry, it’s been really noticeable that the traffic levels have increased to a level I haven in many years. They start to queue around 5:45 each morning and basically it’s a heavy constant flow of traffic until it shuts. It gone back to blocking the roundabout most days again and it’s only since the payments came into force.

  • For anybody interested in Woolwich and it’s history. Researching our family history, my son has found this picture of my great grand father who worked on

  • Make it cars and bikes only, simples.

It could happen but getting a bill through parliament for such a tiny issue and using up parliamentary time is very very unlikely.

Can’t because you can’t put dangerous goods trucks through the tunnel. So the ferry is the alternative route.

@masicat Two unfinished posts in one post. Is "(on) the Woolwich ferry" the missing words in both??

A short term problem. Running now.

The new ferries load and unload much quicker than the old boats.

They only seem to have problems when the tide is very high.

You don't have to be a genius to work out that a service that is free is going to be used more when the alternative route is now being charged for.

I do wonder what politicians do all day.  Not a brain cell between them.
