Another thought on Galbraith, if he signs for us he’ll no doubt be a regular starter. Clubs like Sheff Utd are less likely to guarantee that game time, and in their case he’d have to move when he might feel settled in London. I don’t think this is one that will only come down to money.

Darragh is panicking because he's not really got anymore saleable assets in that Posh squad nowSwisdom said:I saw Ricky Jade Jones had angered Darragh MacAnthony by signing on a free for St Pauli - meaning Peterborough don’t get a big fee (like when Aribo went to Rangers as it’s overseas).
I think his financial issues are starting to hit home now
Kyprianou went to Watford on a free , he won't get anything for RJJ and Poku won't be anything like the fee they could have got a year ago.
Was always going to come a time with their player model where there was going to be some lean years.3 -

I'd give them Ahadme in exchange and really piss them off.jakecafc said:Orient fans really don't like us anymore do they.
If we have offered 1.3 million and Orient have turned it down we should raise it to 1.5 million plus Ahadme.
Kelman's back at QPR so they need another striker.
🤨
Ahadme going to a team called 0's seems apt 🤷🏻♂️11 -
There's no one i'd like to go pop more than MacAnthony, such a smug little tosspot.MarcusH26 said:

In 99% of cases it comes down to money though. Sheffield Utd will be able to offer him an extra £1k a week and let’s face it that’ll swing it. He’ll be confident enough in his own abilities to start games and his agent will be telling him that in a years time he could be a Premier League player. Hope I’m wrong. In a similar vein to Thierry Small. Nothing will convince me that it wasn’t the money that prompted his departure. There’s probably a 50/50 chance we’ll be above them next season and as for all that guff about Heckingbottom being the man to take Small to the next level !!! That’s all smoke to cover the extra money he’s pocketing. I don’t blame chasing the money by the way. Good luck to them.Scoham said:Another thought on Galbraith, if he signs for us he’ll no doubt be a regular starter. Might be tempted to sell Kelman if they can get Bonne back on the cheap from Southend :-)ForeverAddickted said:Unless QPR get offered silly money, they'd be fools to sell Kelman after the season he's just had15 -
Ahadme is an excellent player who just hit a bit of a blip last season. Well worth a few million but we could let him go cheaply to get his career back on track.NornIrishAddick said:

What was it Darragh said about us during the JCH saga... "Piss takers think we are desperate for a dollar. Those days are gone."Swisdom said:I saw Ricky Jade Jones had angered Darragh MacAnthony by signing on a free for St Pauli - meaning Peterborough don’t get a big fee (like when Aribo went to Rangers as it’s overseas).

Not sure if Sheffield United would actually be in for Galbraith they already have 6 midfield options for 3 positions and it’s not like any of them are heavily disliked, also would be a gamble to go from someone who has only played top end L1 to suddenly top end championship/prem there’s a massive gap between Sheffield united and other championship clubs that would be like us going for a port vale player. I’d be more worried about Swansea where he would start, they’ve had firm interest since January and can offer a lot more wages. Hope the fact they spent 5M on a winger already took a big chunk out their budget though.7

Something seemed to change last season for Peterborough. They were unable or not prepared to invest in the team as well as they usually do. That’s why they had a bad season. I don’t know if Darragh has financial pressures.4 -
He courted some Canadians for investment and then fell out with them so they demanded their money back I think so the club are skint. They owe the council a load of money rent for the stadium and have no sellable assets, they desperately need promotion or one of their non league purchases to be picked offSouthLincsAddick said:MarcusH26 said:

He has 1 year left on his contract and he probably won't sign a new one without some kind of assurance on his playing time. So they're either going to have to play him so he signs a new deal or sell now because otherwise he'll either be worth a lot less in January or even worse for them, he'll see out his contract and leave for free.ForeverAddickted said:Unless QPR get offered silly money, they'd be fools to sell Kelman after the season he's just had

I wasn't entirely sure on the timeline with the whole Canadian thing and I've never been sure what actually is ever the truth with Mcanthony, he makes so many posts on Twitter and stuff on his podcast that he then walks back later or claims was misinterpreted. Eventually finding gems in non league was going to run out for them now that a lot of other clubs have cottoned onto it, especially the likes of Wycombe.0 -
Think the debt to the Canadians is something like £9m which is a lot for a club of that size. The debt to the council is £200kish but they refuse/can't pay thatMarcusH26 said:fenaddick said:

Just a small objection as i think you have understated how good and important a player as DKD is. I couldn't compare him to Berry, who i for one would gladly see replaced. (Berry and Docherty is a weak central pair. Docherty more effective without Berry as i think was shown in the last few games, FWIW).Crispywood said:
Can’t see it happening with Barnsley in a position to demand absolute millions and they don’t often sell their best players for cheap. We’re clearly willing to spend since the Galbraith bids come out but I’m not sure Jones thinks DKD would be the best use of the budget. Already have 2 CAM’s in Carey and Berry so have depth there and up top he’s very similar to what we have in terms of Godden TC Kanu etc. if we’re going to bring in a striker surely it would be a target man as our only options are Ahadme who less said about the better and Leaburn who despite his build can’t do that Paticular role well. Would be shocked if we don’t start the season with a Carlton Morris kind of player up topdaveydanger said:Seriously questionable Twitter account linking us to Barnsley’s Davis Keillor-Dunn.

I also don't see how DKD could be compared to TC, Godden, or Kanu, each having a more specific role that they sometimes deliver on and sometimes do not.
DKD is more of a Claus Jensen in my mind at least (long time ago i know). An all-round quality midfielder who scores a few. In the Barnsley games i have seen he is their stand out player and i had wrongly assumed he was on loan from the prem already.
As i say smallish points as on balance i don't disagree with your conclusion. A target man of a certain type would suit us. I just think DKD would be a luxury beyond our reach.1 -

They've been very successful at picking up lower/non league bargains and selling them on for a high fee, but that model relies on selling players at their peak who are still under contract. A financial disaster for them that their best players like Kyprianou and RJJ were able to run their contracts down.SouthLincsAddick said:MarcusH26 said:

A Premiership team will be expected to pay the bulk of that sum up front. £15 million is chicken feed in Premiership terms these days.Garrymanilow said:
But I think that's exactly what West Ham will be looking at; a player with absolutely no academy training, no international youth squads who was playing in the Essex Senior League just one season ago managed to get 18 L1 goals in his first full season aged 21. They will be thinking that if he can do that while basically being a park footballer as recently as 23/24 then with a bit of proper coaching the sky's the limit for him. There's no way it'll be £15m flat either, it will almost certainly be incentive based and likely tied to goals, appearances, possibly international caps. If he's a washout then West Ham won't pay anything approaching £15m.Chris_from_Sidcup said:
Even so there's no way he's worth 15m!Garrymanilow said:Kone was't good against us and he obviously had a dip in form but he's 21 years old, just scored 18 goals in L1 and did that in his first full Football League season. The main thing I took away watching him against us was he looked raw. West Ham will be looking at the leap he's made in output after just 18 months spent training with a L1 side and feeling like they can get a hell of a lot more out of him with better coaching. Ipswich signed Liam Delap for £20m after he'd scored 8 Championship goals in a season and then sold him on for £30m just a year later. £15m isn't a huge amount for a Premier League team but if Kone lives up to his potential West Ham could double their money so they'll be viewing it as a gamble worth making
You can't really compare the two. Delap had been at Man City, had played for England at all youth age groups and had a season in the championship. There's no chance Kone is worth almost as much as he went for.2 -
I hope you're right. Just seems to be a big gap between the Championship teams in terms of finance.AndyG said:

Someone once told me dealing with MacAnthony was a bit of a lottery. It all depended on how much Bolivian Marching Powder he’d had that day.killerandflash said:

I don’t know if Darragh has financial pressures.I was also told he had a number of debts being called in and no funds to pay / which is why their big signing last year was Abraham Odoh from Rochdale. He ain’t got no money.7 -
Do we know that Swansea are even still interested? They bid for him in January but their manager at the time was sacked in February. New manager might have other targets.Braziliance said:Really good rumour and would be one of, if not our best player Galbraith.
Orient obviously leaking it hoping to start a bidding war, but hopefully we come back with a better offer. Swansea are very interested and been knocked back before, looks like they'd be the main competition.
He was the best player at Wembley, would be bloody lovely if we could get him.3 -
I imagine that both wages and transfer fees will be higher but not to say "over the odds" - simply that the bar is now set higher. Better players cost more money, either up front or over their contract (or both.)hoof_it_up_to_benty said:Not sure how keen most players will be to sign for us - can see us paying over the odds.
It's unlikely that we are going to be spending at the same level as some but I'd be astonished if we don't end up with a few fairly big fees paid if Jones wants his target badly enough.2
