Orient are out for every penny they can get and quite rightly so. If Charlton did make that,imo, below value bid then you have to expect Orient to put it out there. I don't think Orient will be unreasonable with their valuation. Just pay it and get him in
Nothing wrong with a bid to test the water. I’m sure we knew that would be rejected so will have another bid ready closer to our maximum valuation.

I’m slightly encouraged that we haven’t heard anything since the leak. Could it mean we’ve increased bid and we’re now talking with Orient or does it just mean the £1.3 million was just a cheeky speculative bid and we have now dropped out ?

Based on what? So far we've signed one player more or less completely under the radar. Cawley (the most reliable source) has made fairly strong links to two more, both of which apparently still seem to be still ongoing. Is the Galbraith interest leaking ideal, not really no, but does it seem to be any kind of deal-breaker, also no.
At this point in time I genuinely don't see any sign to be overly concerned about.

yes .. a lot of lower league clubs now seem to have loadsa money to go after the talent that's available .. I hate to say this, BUT the fact that we just scrambled into the Championship might not make us an attractive proposition, unless like (say) e.g. M K Dons/Brum/Wexham we can offer big salaries .. I'll say it again, we surely need a big investment in players this close season .. as ever, we will see

I hope every signing we make is hard fought as it a) means they were wanted by others, suggesting they are good players and b) suggests we didn't overpay just to get the deal done quickly.
Every summer we see and are told that some deals just take a long time to get done - various offers and counter offers, players mulling over different offers from different clubs, clubs or players quite rightly holding out to get the best deal they can, some deals being part of a chain where they only go through once every club has lined up and agreed a deal for a replacement player etc. etc. etc.
We're scarred by years of bad recruitment and insufficient budgets, but I don't think there's a need for us to be too negative about our prospects. I think there's a project we can sell to signings, a manager that players (or the right types, at least) will want to play for, and while, of course, we will be working to a budget, nothing anyone has said suggest it's an unrealistic budget. We won't get all our first-choice targets but I have faith we'll get some of them.

I bet Orient, Stockport and Wycombe would have loved to 'scramble' into the division above. I remember us 'scrambling' into the premiership after an epic against Sunderland. Not knocking what you are saying about incoming players, time will tell, but 'scrambling' is the worst description of a play off win that I have heard. If you mean we are late to the table, in terms of transfers, yes that's a fact, but just because we have been knocked back for Galbraith, doesn't mean the deal is dead or that we don't have a plan B. Once again, because we don't have any rumours, it's all doom and gloom, not necessarily so, in my humble opinion.
Norwich have signed Harry Darling from Swansea so can forget him. Its a huge surprise that he's gone there seeing that he worked under Liam Manning at Milton Keynes.
Wrexham have signed Ryan Hardie from Plymouth, another name who had been mentioned as a suggestion on here

That's a good signing for Wrexham, a proven Championship player at a decent age, rather than a big name finishing their career. His wages will be affordable too.

His Agent will know though, that if Galbraith chooses to leave on a free next summer, Ethan can technically ask for a higher signing on fee when negotiating as they'll know clubs wanting to sign him, wont have to pay a transfer fee... So there is the potential for more money to end up in Agent / Players pocket.

The fact we’ve not heard of any other club rushing in to get him after our initial bid is encouraging signs. If any other club desperately wanted him as much as we did they would have surely put in a decent offer as soon as we had a first offer rejected

Norwich got some good value loaning and then selling a player to marseille 14m +
An example of how Premier League youngsters can be hyped up because of who they play for, Matt Smith (the first one we loaned, the Man City one) who somehow has 19 Wales Caps, has just joined Newport.

There are dozens of players who would improve our team in League One, the Scottish Premier and abroad. Plus loans and the odd perm from the Championship and Premier. If we only focus on three or four (all of which we know are sought by other clubs), then of course we will struggle.
But I have confidence that Chappell has a long list of players under consideration, most of whom have never been mentioned by the experts on here and the clickbait websites. My guess is that, by the first league match, we will have strengthened the first team in five positions, and the squad by another couple on top of that.

Would imagine that Charlton are pissed off with Orient releasing that a bid had been made, would not be a great surprise to withdraw our offer and go after other targets .. perhaps see what the situation is in the final few hours of the window given he only across the river .. and Orient might be a little more desperate
Doubtful though. In 2025 i don't think you can really be angry at a club for leaking a bid because it's naive to think Galbraith's agent won't have told other interested clubs anyway.
I know that Rich said we're looking to do things 'cloak and dagger' but i'd say that's quite tough because the agent will almost certainly be alerting other clubs (especially ones with more money than us) as it's in his interest to have more clubs bidding.

I saw Ricky Jade Jones had angered Darragh MacAnthony by signing on a free for St Pauli - meaning Peterborough don’t get a big fee (like when Aribo went to Rangers as it’s overseas).
I think his financial issues are starting to hit home now
I am not a fan of MacAnthony himself but have always admired the Peterborough model of plucking kids and under rated players from non league and transforming them.
It's a shame that in today's football environment, this model could fail because the likes of RJJ, Poku and Kyrianu etc have let their contracts run down and left. Looks like Poku may go to Rangers now which will mean minimal compensation for him and RJJ. That is a huge blow to such a small club and probably costs them £3-6M depending on their respective values.
These players are looking after themselves like most would and fair play to them. However, it if means clubs like Peterborough fail or change tac it is at huge detriment to the wider football pyramid imo.
