Whether us or Orient leaked news of our bid.

Orient are out for every penny they can get and quite rightly so. If Charlton did make that,imo, below value bid then you have to expect Orient to put it out there.
I don't think Orient will be unreasonable with their valuation. Just pay it and get him in

Shame they weren’t out for every penny when they - possibly- sold there tickets in a way that left thousands unable to be sold by us at the final

Orient have every incentive to create a bidding war, and get a bigger fee. Galbraith's agent has every incentive too, as if he can get a richer club interested, then more wages for his client means more money for him too.

I hope every signing we make is hard fought as it a) means they were wanted by others, suggesting they are good players and b) suggests we didn't overpay just to get the deal done quickly. 

Every summer we see and are told that some deals just take a long time to get done - various offers and counter offers, players mulling over different offers from different clubs, clubs or players quite rightly holding out to get the best deal they can, some deals being part of a chain where they only go through once every club has lined up and agreed a deal for a replacement player etc. etc. etc.

We're scarred by years of bad recruitment and insufficient budgets, but I don't think there's a need for us to be too negative about our prospects. I think there's a project we can sell to signings, a manager that players (or the right types, at least) will want to play for, and while, of course, we will be working to a budget, nothing anyone has said suggest it's an unrealistic budget. We won't get all our first-choice targets but I have faith we'll get some of them.

yes .. a lot of lower league clubs now seem to have loadsa money to go after the talent that's available .. I hate to say this, BUT the fact that we just scrambled into the Championship might not make us an attractive proposition, unless like (say) e.g. M K Dons/Brum/Wexham we can offer big salaries .. I'll say it again, we surely need a big investment in players this close season .. as ever, we will see

I bet Orient, Stockport and Wycombe would have loved to 'scramble'  into the division above. I remember us 'scrambling' into the premiership after an epic against Sunderland. Not knocking what you are saying about incoming players, time will tell, but 'scrambling' is the worst description of a play off win that I have heard. If you mean we are late to the table, in terms of transfers, yes that's a fact, but just because we have been knocked back for Galbraith, doesn't mean the deal is dead or that we don't have a plan B. Once again, because we don't have any rumours, it's all doom and gloom, not necessarily so, in my humble opinion.

That's a good signing for Wrexham, a proven Championship player at a decent age, rather than a big name finishing their career. His wages will be affordable too.

If his contract runs out next summer and he doesn’t get sold this window both club and agent will have to consider that he either gets sold in January for a much lower fee or he walks for free come summer 2026.

its all well and good holding out for a higher bid if we have offered £1.3m and Orient rejected it but that could backfire if Charlton or no other club offers more. After all, it’s not just the fee that has to be taken into consideration, it’s the contract cost as well. 

The fact we’ve not heard of any other club rushing in to get him after our initial bid is encouraging signs. If any other club desperately wanted him as much as we did they would have surely put in a decent offer as soon as we had a first offer rejected

There are dozens of players who would improve our team in League One, the Scottish Premier and abroad. Plus loans and the odd perm from the Championship and Premier. If we only focus on three or four (all of which we know are sought by other clubs), then of course we will struggle.

But I have confidence that Chappell has a long list of players under consideration, most of whom have never been mentioned by the experts on here and the clickbait websites.
My guess is that, by the first league match, we will have strengthened the first team in five positions, and the squad by another couple on top of that.

Doubtful though. In 2025 i don't think you can really be angry at a club for leaking a bid because it's naive to think Galbraith's agent won't have told other interested clubs anyway.

I know that Rich said we're looking to do things 'cloak and dagger' but i'd say that's quite tough because the agent will almost certainly be alerting other clubs (especially ones with more money than us) as it's in his interest to have more clubs bidding.

Orient leaked it all day long.

I don't doubt that for a second, i just don't think it really matters because even if they hadn't, his agent will almost certainly be keeping other clubs updated anyway.

I am not a fan of MacAnthony himself but have always admired the Peterborough model of plucking kids and under rated players from non league and transforming them.

It's a shame that in today's football environment, this model could fail because the likes of RJJ, Poku and Kyrianu etc have let their contracts run down and left.   Looks like Poku may go to Rangers now which will mean minimal compensation for him and RJJ.  That is a huge blow to such a small club and probably costs them £3-6M depending on their respective values.

These players are looking after themselves like most would and fair play to them. However, it if means clubs like Peterborough fail or change tac it is at huge detriment to the wider football pyramid imo.
