  • There not much business being done anywhere .. agents , players , Managers and staff on holiday makes it very difficult to get a deal done don’t mean to say that deals are not being agreed and ready to go once these holidays are over ????

Agents and their players use mobile phones on holiday (No shit Sherlock 😀) and a lot of chats will be taking place with smoke being blown up arses and a bog standard League 1 player being hype up by his agent to being the best thing since slice bread.

I'm convinced Phil and Nathan are working hard whether at home or away with their network of contacts and the player databases available for scrutiny.
  • Someone on here said a few weeks ago that we had already signed 4 players - when are they to be announced ???

While i'm on here, its a definite no to Cornick, Plange and Dijksteel
I think the Sonny Carey signing was announced to coincide with the Small departure, we might have a few more joining when their contracts expire at the end of the month.  Might not have done the press work.
  • The other thing is we can have deals lined up but doubtful a medical has been done at that point so relies on players, agents and club medical staff not being on holiday and then the players not having an issue
  • No transfer news today ???
They are really drawing out this new kit launch 🥱

more and more WhatsApp updates of players sitting on the ground stairs in the new kit 🥱
Is the notion that we haven't signed any players because we're too busy launching a kit?

I think the actual words were 4 agreed which is not the same thing. Carey may well have been one of those, then others maybe changed or are being renegotiated due to our new league status.

Or maybe it was never true at all.
No idea on the 4 but Holidays and current tournaments will be a factor

We tended to get excited about the drawn out signing of Ben Reeves, but he turned out to be a player that hardly improved us.
When a player arrives with whatever CV we can’t be sure about it, the proof of the pudding and all that.

That was the signing when I stopped taking much notice of what people said on line about signings - then confirmed by Scott Fraser

Wonder who from our club had the main role in liaising with Reebok and picking the kit and what qualifications / background is ideal for that ? ‘Can we have s few more splodges here, s as little less stripeage there and maybe stick something under the armpit as an extra surprise - oh go on then, whack s black trim round the sleeves and s fold in the neck - can we make it reversible or carbon friendly ? ‘

DOF’s and Heads of Recruitment need to show their worth at this time and not unusual to fly out to meet players on holiday or in tournaments - often taking them by surprise
  • Am I the only one not that excited about the prospect of signing Galbraith? He’s a good player for sure, but he’s not exactly ripped League One apart. I’ve seen him play a few times and thought he looked good, but not so good it warrants much clamour.

    I’m not
If you can’t get excited about us pushing the boat out for a player who Orient fans say never plays under an 8 every game,  then you’ll never be happy
Don’t get me wrong, the thought of Charlton bidding £1m for any player gets me excited, let alone one who I know for a fact is a good player! Regardless I’m a little bit trepidatious, he’s never played in the Championship and I’m not even sure if he’s a right back or a midfielder.

Either way it’s fantastic to see us operating like a proper football club again.
The fee is not always a good indicator of quality or value. I'm not opening up the personal views on him, but Ahadme is an excellent case in point.

He cost £1m or whatever it really was, and was unproven and young. He had 'potential' but was a wild card. Alfie May was a shoe-in, when it came to his track record, but cost £250k, or again, whatever it was.

Which one on paper (before a game was played) was the better spend of owners money?

There are loads of players being talked up that are known, but it doesn't mean they will be good at Charlton, and vice versa.

NJ will have his list of ones he wants. When they are signed we will probably all start moaning that they are underwhelming (as I'm not convinced the big money signings are on the way).

    Can't wait 😊

I thought I saw on here that Mbengue had signed somewhere  but that is not the case. Still available.

I suspect many players are still on holiday but I also know people like Dijksteel are away with his country at the gold cup.  I know one of his teammates who’s also in the squad for Suriname so I’ll get him to put a good word in for us 😆

there is still plenty of time to get work done
Mbengue has been linked with Watford for a while and has apparently already agreed terms with them. Seen a few Watford fans confident it seems to have happened.

In other news it's looking like Reading are closing in on Paudie O'Connor. (I'm mentioning him cause he's probably Mbengues replacement if that goes through, and I'm a fan)

Joel Pereira who I saw a few people on here say they wouldn't have minded us signing also extended with Reading. A shame as that would have been decent business on a free.
  • With Ahadme £1m is a headline cost but I doubt we have paid anywhere near that and more likely closer to the £250,000. One of the downsides of promotion [which I'm happy to accept] is we probably had to pay more installment for Ahadme both to Ipswich and the player. Jeffers fee was always quoted around £600,000, but I don't believe we paid more than £200,000.  Equally Birmingham will have paid a further installment for May on promotion.

Also interesting, he didn't play more than 20 games in the season.. Being stuck on 19 after being fit, and playing younger players.. I reckon there would have been an update.

For him to end up behind Mbick in the pecking order is a pretty big indicator of how much NJ rates him. Just think he's going to be a tough one to shift
A loan to a lower end L1 club should be fairly easy, we'll just have to pay lots of his wages

I suspect if the finances are okay then Cambridge will take him. Iirc he has scored more times at the Valley for them then for us

He was injured .. when it seemed he was back training after 3/4 days the injury would flare up again ..  there was talk of an operation in the close season ?

We’ve just got to take the hit, hope the loan goes well so that someone will pay more of his wages next year. Think it’s going to be tough to move him on permanently as no team is going to pay him what he’s on now (which will have most likely gone up after promotion). He will just get loaned out until the end of his contract unless he has a really good loan

I’m not convinced Ahadme is a lost cause. I believe he was a Jones pick so I’d expect him to get Gassan fit and work on what he originally saw in him. Problem is that the fans have already made up their minds and it will be very difficult for him to win that battle. Ideally he needs to
    move on.
I think Gassan's biggest hurdle is not the fans, it's the fact that the manager preferred a very raw kid for hugely important games, and was happy to loan him out for the run-in.

Yeah it's going to come down to how much of that wage we're willing to continue paying to get him out the door. I can't really see any way back for him regardless of any injuries he's had.

AFC Wimbledon are getting decimated so that could be a route for him on loan potentially? Although they have Matty Stevens and Omar Bugiel , neither of those are proven in L1.
  • Cawley has ruled out fabianski says we’re looking for someone younger and reiterated JRS is unlikely
  • if/when we need an aging keeper, Stephen Henderson is still on the staff

ARE YOU KIDDING - oh the few games I’ve seen him play last season at the valley…he was like A FISH FLAPPING if he didn’t get a ball to feet he would get mixed up if to control it with his feet or head and in the end he just ended up throwing himself at the ball like a fish out of water.

Oh there is no doubt he’s got the effort and running around but come on !

I also felt that Jones discovers quickly if a player is going to work for him or not within a few games - he just didn’t fit and Jones always wants a player to track back and make tackles whatever position they play - it’s all about the press…
