Paudie O'Connor, another wishlist signing has joined Reading on a four year deal.
Its one thing I'll be interested to see how things turn out, a lot of us would like to create a bit of a League One X1 dream team, but with some of these names going elsewhere in League One, you have to think we're aiming a lot higher... Exciting to think of in that regard.
Not sure why anyone going for promotion would sign him based on his body of work so far
15 goals 8 assists for us in league 1 plus 7G 2A in the championship last season is easily enough to interest top championship teams. It was his first year at championship level so you’d expect him to be hitting double figures next season (which he’d have probably hit last season if he’d played more). He’d be a top signing for any team in the league, so he’s way out of our league unfortunately
Just WHO is OFFERING us Fabianski ?? He's out of contract so he is not tied to any club. Just lazy journalism being repeated ad-infinitum on here.
His agent probably
This is prime agents hawking free agents around time of year. Especially someone like Fabianski that's pretty clear he wants to stay London based , not surprised his agent would have had a word with us , wouldn't be doing what he's paid to do if he didn't.
Someone suggested Jamaica’s Richard King on the TC or Dixon thread recently during their matches. He’s signed for St Mirren. Maybe one to keep an eye on to see how he adapts.
Yeah that was me unless someone else has as well. Looks really tidy on the ball and quite comfortable in possession in general. Will be intrigued to see how he gets on.
I have a feeling Jones will want a LARGE POWERHOUSE STRIKER like CHUKS to bring on as an impact player with 15 mins to go - obviously Aneke was past his best and plagued with tight calves and not good enough at championships level (see his Birmingham career) he must have someone lined up…wonder who ?
Keillor-Dunn is a good player, but is he really worth 4-5m?
Aged 27 now, so not a kid, and has spent the last 5 seasons in L1 and L2, 3 1/2 of those in L2.
Depends how you look at it would we be happy to spend 4-5M on DKD probably not we would say that’s too high. But if someone like Kayne Ramsay moved for less than 3.5M I’d be fuming whereas other clubs think that’s a perfectly reasonable fee. All comes down to the buying and selling club and what players you compare him to that also moved for similar price. 5M for DKD if you compared him to a 15-20M Stansfield looks like a bargain but if you compared him to Godden who cost 250k who averaged more G/A per 90 than him you would say 5M is a rip off (know age players a factor but still).
DKD cost 700k a year ago. Yes he's worth more than that now, but after just one season as a regular goal scorer at L1 level, I certainly wouldn't spent 4-5m on him. Alfie May is a proven L1 goalscorer over several seasons, and went to and from us for way less than 1m.
Values rise once you prove you can do it at a higher level. Stansfield was WAY overpriced but scored 12 goal for Birmingham on loan last season, and had 5 years at Fulham and England youth caps to bump up his price.
Of course Barnsley might want to keep him, and might ask for 4-5m, that's their choice.
that is because every other club knows you can shaft Charlton.

And other Championship sides don't think such players are up to the required standard either?
It’s natural that most of the names being thrown out on this thread are L1 players as we’ve all watched a lot of L1 in the last few years so know the players. That’s why we don’t work in recruitment

It’s the same with ex players always coming up, the same happens among every fan base because of course the players we are most aware of are ex-Charlton players
I can't see JRS wanting to come back, he'll want to join a front foot Championship team fighting for promotion, not one grinding out results to stay up.
Think he enjoyed his time with us as he was the key player. he wasn’t that a Sheffield Utd. Perhaps he would welcome being the king pin. it would certainly take some focus off TC who’s a mate of his
He was a good player with lots of talent but he also benefitted from the style we played where we had CBT on the other wing and neither really tracked back as part of the front 3 - as a team it didn’t work as we were so easy to score against but for JRS and CBT it was footballing heaven

It's also what the club is looking at mainly as far as we can tell, considering we have already signed one league one player, been heavily linked with another in Galbraith, and have interest in Offiah and Mbengue.
This is a good strategy for a newly promoted side. You sign the best of the best from the league you just left, or you sign the best players from the worst teams you switched places with. (Like Wrexham have done with Hardie)
Foreign players are a lot tricker to sign because of the regulations and convincing them to move country. It's a lot more simple looking in this country where there are less complications and you know the players will have a smoother transition most of the time.

Given how quietly we do business I’m not sure that assumption can be made. I’ve decided I’ve got no idea what the club are doing or planning. Carey came out of nowhere.
I don’t think it’s a bad strategy either, I just don’t think it’s likely to be our only one or our main one.
While signing from abroad is tricky it’s much easier now than in L1. We have more slots for players who wouldn’t fulfill a work permit. I don’t know if Dixon takes one of those places but we will still have a couple to play with at least. Of course convincing them to move remains tricky but the lure of English leagues is quite big

weve got one, Miles.
Key season for Miles. Really needs to stay fit
This in a nutshell. I really wouldn’t want to go into the season counting on that. Unfortunately for the lad after the last 2 seasons I think it’s more likely that another injury is around the corner. Hopefully not the case but some peoples bodies just can’t cope with professional sport
When's the next signing then ? Before the fixtures are released next Thursday ? Before the players return for pre-season training? Before they go away / first PSF ? Before the start of the season ? Before the window closes ?
(Obviously the last 2 are a but facetious). I reckon 1 or 2 before next Thursday & another 1 or 2 before they start pre-season training. Well I bloody hope so !!

This is possibly the best chance he has of staying fit, last two years he had no pre season after GBH at Welling and then his long term injury that ruled him out until October time
If he can get a full pre-season under Jones and Dr Will it'll give him best chance possible, as will not having to roll him out for games in the bristol street pizza motors cup
Someone on here said a few weeks ago that we had already signed 4 players - when are they to be announced ???
While i'm on here, its a definite no to Cornick, Plange and Dijksteel
I think the actual words were 4 agreed which is not the same thing. Carey may well have been one of those, then others maybe changed or are being renegotiated due to our new league status.
Or maybe it was never true at all.
No idea on the 4 but Holidays and current tournaments will be a factor
Cawley has ruled out fabianski says we’re looking for someone younger and reiterated JRS is unlikely
Even more interesting is we were offered Fabianski but said no
If Nathan wants someone younger than Fabianski I'm fine with that, but I would have fine with us signing him also. He's still in decent shape, and wanting to stay local for his family, so wouldn't have been after horrendous wages.
Of course it would be a short term signing, but I'd rather have the best keeper possible than worry about the following season.
He’ll have been pocketing well over 1 million a season, after tax, for quite awhile. If he’s invested it wisely, he probably never needs to work again so paying him 10,000 a week might seem like peanuts compared to his previous wages but it would probably be straight in to savings.
Having turned down Fabianski, I'd like us to try get Conor Hazard from Plymouth, would be gettable, international experience and seems well regarded by their fanbase too

I was impressed with him when they played Liverpool
I think he only has a season to go on his contract

I doubt he will be fit for pre season. The new Chuks
I guess the entire recruitment team has probably changed but we were previously linked with Ian Poveda, 25yr old winger. Now at Sunderland but only played 6 games last season so unlikely to be in their PL plans. Just thought I would throw him out there.
Comments
like you say.
That would be awesome to watch.

Antonio is out of contract with WHU and was a named sub for Jamaica.
Just saying.
