If I'm Galbraith, I'm not signing with a League One club in mid June. I'm waiting to see which Championship clubs have bids accepted, whether I have to wait another 4-6 weeks or not.
If it is £2.5m, League One is firmly out of control with transfer fees. Next few years, we'll be seeing League Two sides dropping multiple millions to get a player in.
EFL have a real problem on their hands here. The more relaxed spending rules are important to help smaller clubs with less revenue keep afloat with money from their owners, the issue is that bigger clubs with rich owners will exploit it. We saw it with Birmingham last year, Huddersfield haven’t stopped spending either. Eventually they’ll all be doing it and all putting themselves at big financial risk. In terms of finances there’s never been a more crucial time to become an established Championship side

You're Galbraith? 😁. To help some people out.over here can you join us ?
Rich's sub stack was interesting this morning. He analysed how much of the squad had played in the Second tier before.
He was describing the profile of players we might source for example. He hinted we were in the market for a more experienced keeper who has played in the Championship or above because Mannion only has one appearance at this level
I suspect Galbraith was always a stretch for us. Another factor could be that he probably has links to Lee Grant from their Manchester United days , so I could see Huddersfield being attractive to him
Huddersfield can outbid everyone and Orient can accept Huddersfield’s offer, but if he doesn’t want another season in L1 he can turn it down.
Going to be interesting to see if this moves quickly or drags on through the summer. A big decision for the player himself, does he want to get in early and have a full preseason, or does he risk staying at Orient trying to get the very best move? That doesn’t always work out, and comes with risks of injuries and not having a full preseason to settle in at a new club.
Looking forward to the meltdown on here because we 'don't have the finances' to match a league one team.
It’s called having an opinion. Why because you disagree does it have to be a meltdown ?
Difference between someone having an opinion, and someone having a meltdown.
’That’s upsetting, I would hope we would be in a position to outbid Huddersfield. I hope we don’t miss out on to many of our first choice targets in similar circumstances’ - Opinion
’The owners don’t have a pot to piss in, they’re chancers, it’s f***ing bollox, we’re going to straight down, other teams are spending money’ - Meltdown.
I can see the appeal to Orient of a higher bid. I can't see the appeal to Galbraith of another year in L1. He is 24 and needs to kick on in his career. With a year left on his contract he has a fair amount of control in all of this. There is also the add on's. Assume our bid is lower but with a healthy sell on. If Orient really think he can kick on to PL, that suddenly becomes very interesting to them with us being a Championship club with likely higher sell on price next summer. We shall see. Fingers crossed.
It's an interesting one for Galbraith. Huddersfield have a pretty wealthy owner but he's not that well liked and it took him a very long time to sack their sporting director despite the fans absolutely hating him and him getting into arguments with fans at games. The owner makes some very questionable decisions so there's no guarantee he'll make enough good ones this season to change things. Huddersfield had a pretty horrendous second half of the season so it will be on Galbraith to decide if he's willing to gamble on potentially another lost season in L1 where he'll be tied in for 3-4 years, push for a move to a Championship club if one bids again or sit in with Orient for another 6 months to a year and have a lot more freedom to choose his destination. He's 24 already so I'd be surprised if he wasn't itching to go up a level asap
Carlton Morris would quite literally be the perfect player for us. He is everything Nathan Jones wants in a striker.
If there was any player we were willing to break the bank over, it should be him. Great role model for our young forwards and would allow us to protect Godden a bit who can't be expected to play all 46. You have those two as options in the champ and you're laughing.
The kind of signing if we make you can start to feel a bit more confident about the upcoming season. Unfortunately I think he will well be out of our range.
Scored 8 in 41 appearances last year, is he any good?
More to his game than goals, he would enable the rest of the team. Ball sticks with him, hard to defend against physically. It's also the experience that comes with him, a player that's been there and done it in the champ, no half measures.
We need a bit of physicality up top and he would fit that role. Being blunt that's my dream forward signing for this season within reason.
Would cost about 5 million minimum and the rest though.
What's this number based on?
Depends what database you use. Some have him down as 5 million (transfermarkt, capology) some as high as 15 million (fotmob).
I'd say based on the market he's worth around that minimum. 29 years old, prem experience, championship proven, English, under contract, etc.
You know you have one of the most powerful information tools in your hands. Could always just search yourself rather than ask me who is just reading off of a page.
You must be the most thin-skinned poster in the history of Charlton Life. I was just asking where you'd seen that valuation and what it was based on, I don't think it's an unreasonable question. Morris is a weird one because there are no other recent bids teams have made that I could find to give a ballpark figure and Luton were deliberately vague about his contract extension in 2023 so while I've seen his contract might end in 2027 it seems to be a guess. Transfermarkt is good for some stuff but their valuations are pretty random at times. They have Ethan Galbraith listed as being valued at about £500,000 for instance. They've got Morris around £4.7m but you don't know when that was last updated and I doubt they've taken into account how badly relegation has affected their finances because they can't possibly know that. I'm not familiar with Capology, I've just had a look and it seems to be a website that guesses players' salaries - 'All salary figures are estimates and do not represent official figures'. I didn't see a valuation for him, I'm not sure where to look for that, but it did say his contract expires on 30th June 2025 so maybe not the most up to date page. Fotmob has him listed at 15m euros, which is about £12.8m, but clearly that's just evidence that these sites aren't very up to date because I doubt many teams are valuing a 29 year old L1 player who scored 8 goals last season at that. I was just wondering if you'd seen something that said what Luton valued him at but you're using random websites that guess. That's fine, maybe he will go for £5m but it's not exactly ridiculous to ask where these numbers come from is it?
I'm 'thin-skinned' because I've given you an answer, then I've reminded you that you have Google in your hands, and you've decided to go on a tangent?
Makes sense I suppose.
I mean, you're thin-skinned because it seems like every other day you're having some kind of crash out on here because someone tried to engage you in a discussion on the discussion forum. I asked where you got your information from because I was interested to see if you'd seen something I hadn't about Morris, and then just pointed out that the sites you're using are guesswork sites. That's not a tangent, it's directly relevant. I do have Google in my hands but I'm not daft enough to think Transfermarkt or Fotmob are a good indicator of player value
But again, if you truly believed that, you could have just searched for it.
Either way you got your virtual likes which is what you set out to do from my perspective, just like other people do when they try and grief RonnieMoore & Golfie, or whoever else becomes a bit of a running gag and easy to make fun of.
Come on, get with the game. You're meant to rush onto AI and state "Braziliance said Carlton Morris will cost between £5m-£15m, please could you tell me the sources that he found this figure from please and towards the lower end". Please don't cause offence by asking directly.
Another really bizarre reaction.
Any chance of a mod clearing up the petty posts? Meant to be grown adults on here and people appear to be desperate for some keyboard warrior antics.
what a ridiculous statement, this site is full of petty posts and that is all part of a forum so get off your high horse Mr/Ms/Mrs/Mx Braziliance, I'm sure the mods have better things to do
It wasn't a statement, it was a suggestion to clean up the thread.
I'm also not on a high horse. Just getting a bit fed up of online behaviour. No one is like this at games or in person, or even any other Charlton based social media, unless you are a massive tosser.
Could be deemed offensive and it's a bit unnecessary towards the end there again. You know my name, you know I am a bloke, so you're either questioning my gender over the manner I post in, which again, is another very odd post, or, you're implying I am acting like a woman because my posts could be deemed sensitive?
Would you be this rude outside of your 4 walls, or is this type of comment exclusive to a Charlton forum?
Grown adults. Unbelievable.
Keyboard warrior behaviour asking someone where they got their information from? You have genuinely lost your mind. I'll leave you to it!
Don't be coy about it. You're calling me thin-skinned over a misinterpreted post, you have decided to read that post in the manner you wanted to/how you perceieve me to be. I answered you normally and you made a personal comment about my character. It is extremely unlikely you say it in person to a stranger, but that's what people do on here.
Mind's fully intact cheers. I just see the pile on culture on here on certain forum users, and I am calling it out. All there is to it. There wouldn't have been a need for all these replies if you didn't try to slander me, but again, easy virtual likes and all that.
so after over 60 years supporting Charlton you tell me that I am a "massive tosser" - thanks Braziliance your knowledge knows no bounds
No I am not calling you a massive tosser directly. I am saying if someone was to act in that manner in person, they would be a massive tosser. Big difference.
What has age or knowledge got to do with anything here? Your post was rude, I've highlighted it, all there is to it. Couldn't care if you were a Charlton fan for a hundred years, that doesn't give you the right to be offensive.
Paul Mullins dropped two divisions to go abroad to play for a team in Wales: To earn more money and fantastic goal bonuses which all came to fruition despite him now being the sixth rated striker as the American owned club have had a triple promotion.
I agree I don't see Galbraith doing the same as he will get good offers in the Championship with signing on money and decent dosh to at least match Huddersfield if not be above.
Just pleased that we made a bid for a player on the up at 24 with his best years surely still to come.
Carlton Morris would quite literally be the perfect player for us. He is everything Nathan Jones wants in a striker.

Very different proposition going to Wrexham to going to Huddersfield though. Wrexham were shelling out more wages than I think Huddersfield would, plus he could on/near Merseyside. Mullin also probably knew he wouldn’t ever get a better offer. Galbraith is younger and on a more upward trajectory, play it right and he could be in the PL within a few years. Play it wrong and he’s stuck in L1 wondering what could have been.
The apology to Richard Nixon should be as loud as the disrespect to him on here. The big man’s on the money yet again!
I’m not sure former US President Richard Nixon has ever posted about Charlton, or indeed football, but he’d probably still be more than reliable than Alan Nixon!!

Pleased were not being mugged off for a large fee on someone in league one in the last year of their contract.
Pleased that wages arent a problem. But I suppose this is a low bar as he's on league one wages but still, better than that being a problem too!
For all you CL young'uns that missed it, without a doubt the most legendary CL meltdown EVER. Over a psf. Peak.
