Car Parking

edited August 2012 in Match Day Travel
All of last season I travelled by train to the Valley, from Croydon. Now for the must see Palace game I will travel by car. Two questions:
1. Is the Victoria Drive Car Park open in the evenings and is it still £5.00?
2. I read a lot on the internet about parking in Macro, Halfords or some Bed Store's car parks. Are these places OK especially for night games?

  • Park in Scabbey Wood and get the train along, might be easier.
  • It is worth consideration BIG_ROB but with all those retail parks north of The Valley surely some are known to be safe at night?
  • I've never seen parking like in this car park I'm sitting by now. Strange, isn't it?
  • Still the same today.

    Unusual, no?

What are you on about ?  There are cars parked in a car park.....what do you expect ?
i think because they have all reversed in. Something I always think is a right pain, as the car in front suddenly stops on seeing a suitable spot, reverses into it, goes forward, straightens up, reverses, goes forward, then decides to try a bigger spot etc etc all the while you are stuck waiting behind them.

I have seen plenty of people do exactly what you say trying to drive in forwards.

There is one car that has driven into a space.

This is in France though. They dont care who they hold up.....

When I first clicked on the thread & saw who had resurrected a 13 year old thread I thought it might have been about the issues faced being stuck in your car once the car park gates had been locked 😉😀
  • Is that a private car park? If so, it may be so that the parking guys can see the pass on the windscreen without having to scramble round the back of the parking bay.

(Some bits of the USA you can get a fine or get towed for parking facing out. This is because there are no number plates on the front of the cars, in Florida for example, and you input your license (sic) tag when you pay at the machine. It means that the obese parking attendant can check you haven't overstayed without actually getting out of his vehicle.)
  • reverse parking recommended by IAM
A thing called the Smiths system also recommends same
So that driving out is easier and safer
Some workplace parking facilities request or insist on reverse parking

And you are always supposed to shuffle the steering wheel through your hands but no-one does it. Surely its always easier to reverse out into the nice wide roadway than into a small, now becoming increasingly tight car park space, especially as cars are so much wider nowadays.

I just park sideways across several bays. Good use of handbrake IMO

Reverse parking was not allowed where I worked, apparently they didn't like the exhaust particulates making the Portland stone dirty.
Also, regarding supermarket car parks, etc, you want to drive in to a space so you get easy access to your hatch/boot to get the shopping in. And, the rear cross-path alerts on cars assist with the safety aspect.
Finally as an anti-theft aspect, particularly at night, it's better if the twocker has to reverse out into a traffic stream. It takes them longer and they'll maybe choose another vehicle.
