Apparently we have shown an interest in Keillor Dunn, source is the Barnsley chronicle supposedly. Personally think he was the best player we came up against last season.
Piece says interest from us and Boro but no bids , but the fee wanted is substantial.
If they're after 5m I'd be surprised we're still interested!
They can ask for £5m all they want but I'd expect it to be another one where reality bites later in the window. Feels like there's some League 1 clubs with some very very optimistic valuations.
They can demand that fee though because they have another 3 years left on his deal they know he’s not worth that another way of saying we don’t want to sell but if anyone is crazy enough to offer that kind of money why not.
All depends if the player pushes for a move or downs tools because they have not allowed him the chance to look at other options. They have a value which is fair enough, but these things are still very much player and agent driven.
Alfie Doughty linked with Boro. Strange career. I was quite surprised a Premier League team didn’t take a chance on him when Luton were relegated.
Out of all the ex-players that have been mentioned on here Doughty is the only one that we should have been interested in.
We don't need him, with Josh Edwards at Left Wing-Back... Would be a waste of money taken from the budget. Plus I imagine Alfie wouldn't join us either as we can't guarantee he'll be starting
Alfie Doughty is out of our league unfortunately. He would walk into our team ahead of any of our players
He can play both sides so would actually have been the perfect Small replacement. But as I said he’s not a player we could afford in terms of transfer fee or wages
For the sake of those who don't have Twitter/X, sometimes it would be helpful for original posters to mention who the person they are posting here is. Too many times, a discussion starts and then it turns it's a bloke bored in there bedroom with less than 250 followers.
Appreciate those who call out that it's a fake rumour etc.
please disregard @stoneroses19’s comments . Less than 20,000 visits here and no promotes (a whiff of the North about ‘em n all).
It hurts to have been here since 2007 and never written a promote-worthy post 😢
I don't see why promotes are given as they're purely subjective. Why should the opinion of whoever awards them be shown to carry more weight than others? Stick to likes. We're an online community of equals, not one where some are more equal than others (or they shouldn't be).
I haven't feasted as much on humble pie as some get through on here, but I can thoroughly recommend the sour grapes 😉
Yeah, it can be a harsh world.
Some people post and get 100 likes. No promote.
But a few posters only have to sneeze and the Mods fall over themselves to award a promote.

Local Barnsley rag confirm we are looking at Davis Keillor-Dunn. Would be great to get him in. Looked very good in the game at the valley and nearly scored a worldie

Respectfully, showing an interest doesn't really matter unless you get the signing done.
We had a £4 million pound bid allegedly rejected when we had crooks in charge of us for Ivan Toney from Peterborough.
How genuine that was, I don't know. In my mind it was our ex- dodgy owners trying to look the real deal, and the Peterborough owner doing his little scummy mate a favour rejecting it to impress us.
Point is, until the deal is done, any club can show an interest or even send an unreasonable bid. Would be nice to see us actually get one of these types of deals over the line for a change, rather than the soundbite of "we tried but"

Fair enough mate, but you've gotta start somewhere...🤷♂️

It's a fair point but Cawley has expressly stated that the club are trying to avoid much "showing interest'' at least publicly, in favour of getting business done quietly and in theory more efficiently.
Obviously that won't always work out but it's entirely possible that a lot of the players that we are supposedly "showing interest" in we actually don't have much interest in at all, and that the players we actually do want are being pursued more surreptitiously.
Unless someone from the club (or Cawley) expressly states our interest in any given player I'm automatically taking any such statement with a colossal pinch of salt.

But there is a huge gulf between between Matt Southall making 'bids' public to try and look legit, and other teams making our bids public to try and start a bidding war. It's not the club who are putting out these soundbites.

The Toney thing was complete Bullshit . We were under a transfer embargo at the time anyway .

Chapple and Murphy will be well aware of what Barnsley’s valuation is and have a good idea what it’ll actually take to get him. If there is interest from us then it’s a really positive as far as I’m concerned because we know full well that a player like DKD is not going to be cheap.
Rumour from a Barnsley forum at the start of May that DKD would be sold early in the window for £3m. That sounds more realistic than £5m, but still a lot for a player who’s not played above L1 at 27 years old.

Still doesn't change that recent history says we don't get deals like this done when other big-ish clubs get involved. Hopefully that changes.

That still doesn't change that people believed it at the time. Just because a journalist says we are interested, it doesn't mean anything until the player is signed. It's all just noise until that moment.
Somebody on Facebook saying we offered £5k to Small, PNE £11k.
Thats the problem with promotion. Our higher earners are on £8k and you dont want disparity in wages with experienced players.
Small's new contract would have made him one of the higher earners in the squad, but it still wasn't close to what Preston offered and that's why he went. All there is to it.

Jones not rating Small so highly that he wants him to be guaranteed first choice?
