If we were to sign Offiah, L.Thompson & Olafe. How would we think our squad is looking after those 3?
Light , would want at least 4-5 more on top of that at least . Don't want to be relying on u21s to plug gaps
Yes still light tbh the only regular starters from last year who I would be happy to see regular starters this season would be

    Mannion (controversial I know)
    Jones
    Gillespie
    Edwards
    Godden

    thats about it for me
    What about Ramsey
  • If we were to sign Offiah, L.Thompson & Olafe ...
Maybe I am having an AndyG magnitude memory lapse, but who the hell is "L.Thompson"? I seemed to have missed that rumor.
  • Liam Thompson from Derby, he's technically out of contract
  • I presume Thompson from Derby?

One of the singers from One Direction, dabbled in football a bit, but would be a very left wing signing.

All would be a solid start to a crucial few weeks

Stockport fan in piece. Some whispers going around our camp that you're about to sign our star striker tanto olaofe. You've got yourselves a beast if it's true 👍

    Facebook rumour .
Sounds like the guy who first posted this on their message board is a respected poster and normally bang on. Would be a decent signing in my opinion, always a threat, presses high, works his nuts off.
    Ahadme vibes

That's what I'm thinking, presses high, works his nuts off, always in the gym. Should have been a weight lifter. Not another Ahadme please.

I really hate saying this but I’m really disappointed so far. We should be bidding for the best players to build the best squad. Why haven’t we bid for that fella Lamine Yamal yet?
He doesn’t fit into out system

Cawley said in the Podcast Friday we were only looking to bring in 6/7 signings 1 of which included Carey. Which means we’re probably only looking at a GK LCB RWB LWB CM/CAM ST and that’s it and will rely on a lot of current team to be able to do jobs as squad players next year

I thought that was a only a guess of the likely minimum number of signings, rather than something he had been told?

Correct. There will be a budget of £x for NJ to spend, not a maximum or minimum number of players - only Jones can decide who and how many based on said budget.
  • 10 players sounds fair but I wouldn't be surprised if maybe 2-3 of them might be loan players

I don't see us bringing in 2 permanent strikers with Godden, Leaburn and Campbell (if played centrally) options and then Ahadme, Mbick etc

Think we'll bring in 1 permanent and the other probably be a youngster on loan from a premier league team but certainly we do need to push the boat out on a striker and hopefully there's room in the budget to be allowed to spend a bit extra on a marquee signing. If I recall, i'm sure Powell brought in Ricardo Fuller in a similar way. Would have loved us to have got Ryan Hardie but sadly gone to Wrexham.

I would be stunned if we only brought in 7 including Carey. The loanees went back. We’ve lost Small, let go of Watson and Aneke, all of them were regular players in the squad. Hylton has retired, Ahadme isn’t good enough, there will be others deemed so too.

Throwing youngsters in to make up the numbers won’t cut it nor will it allow us to be as competitive as they (and Jones) will want us to be.

I fully anticipate by the end of the window we would have signed 10 players, with or without including Carey.

    As a minimum:
    - Goalkeeper
    - 2 right sided players to replace Small and Watson (yes I know Small was/is a left back, but he won’t be going forward nor was he used that way)
    - Another central defender
    - Another left back/left wing back to compete with Edwards
    - Another winger
    - Another central midfielder
    - Carey
    - 2 strikers
agree with sage  all day long and i think NJ knows, would like to see some of our fringe players linked with moves elsewhere like mitchell amb kanu ahadme taylor(not lyle) any takers ?
  • Isn't TT injured and thus unlikely to move in this window???

Absolutely agree with Sage that you're probably looking at 10 ins and think the positions are bang on the money too.

Will be interesting to see if we dip into the loan market or not , I think we've got to but I can see NJ and PC being very particular and perhaps targeting older players from within the championship as opposed to PL U21s that maybe have had a season in League 1.

Am absolutely not disagreeing with you on what we need, but I just don't see us signing 10 players this window. All the language from the club is about quality not quantity. I think it'll be 7 this window and then maybe 1 - 2 in January.

I am really hopeful that the club are shopping in the right markets with the names being rumoured though. They would be the exact players I think we should be going for.

If it helps, since it’s been mentioned again, I’ve narrowed down how many miles each Championship team is from the National Railway Museum in York, so we can have a sort of rough idea of our chances of signing someone that might be rumoured to go to any of our Championship rivals

    Birmingham 184 miles
    Blackburn 71 miles
    Bristol City 229 miles
    Us 217 miles
    Coventry 141 miles
    Derby 96 miles
    Hull 38 miles
    Ipswich 212 miles
    Leicester 119 miles
    M’boro 49 miles
    Millwall 216 miles
    Norwich 187 miles
    Oxford 196 miles
    Portsmouth 278 miles
Preston 78 miles, plus the chance to car pool with Small and Euell
    QPR 205 miles
    Sheff Utd/Wed 57 miles
    Southampto 261 miles
    Stoke 119 miles
    Swansea 291 miles
    Watford 203 miles
    WBA 135 miles
    Wrexham 123 miles

Whilst it’s clear that we should avoid getting into a scrap with Preston because of their already established links, we really only want to be going for players that Millwall, Watford, QPR, Pompey, Ipswich, Southampton and Swansea also see as targets if we’re to stand any chance of a player not choosing us over a club closer to the museum

You’ll also see the two Sheffield clubs, Hull and M’boro are particular danger clubs to avoid, and if we’re going after any of the same targets, I would urge Phil Chapple to reconsider

Have we moved to a new stadium in America. Wow, didn't see that coming.

Surely the distances cannot be the same for both Sheffield clubs?

You might want to head back to geography class if you think York railway museum is 217 miles from America.

At last, after weeks of idle fantasizing and juvenile speculation, a real supporter has put the work in and come up with solid, essential data which will enable the club to form a realistic recruitment strategy.

I don't know what these "promotes" really are, but give Cabble six of them.
This is the real money ball
