Although this is not Charlton related, I thought that I would share this information on Charlton life.
A friend of a friend is part of the medical team at West Ham.
He said that Graham Potter has either been told, or has decided himself, that this season he will only play senior pro’s in the West Ham first team.
Apparently the pressure on Potter is immense, because the board feel that West Ham could easily get sucked into a relegation fight this season.
Because of this, most if not all of the emerging talent that has come through the highly rated West Ham academy have been told to look for loan deals, as their chances in the first team will be very limited this season.
Reckon Jones would want at least 2 players per position to not have a massive squad but at least have appropriate depth and then u21’s coming in worse case scenario. Personally can see 6-7 more signings coming in and have the squad look like something like this come start of the season. Can see the argument to sign another RWB ahead of Asiimwe but can see NJ pushing Ramsay or TC out there if needed.
We need to improve on TC - his output was quite poor last season (7 goals 1 assist). Can’t imagine Godden will be getting 20 goals and the defence getting 15 between them again.

looking at that we need a top centre back to replace Gilly and have him being the cover for both him and Jones, the right side has been weakened with small being let go and he should have been the cover so we need offiah and Galbraith imo or players of that level and above, someone to give Edwards competition or rotation and a class striker and midfielder would probably cost 10 mil upwards.
I know Stockports owner, he is absolutely loaded and has supported County all his life, he has blue blood running through his veins.
About 8 years ago, I went to his house for the first time, in deepest housewife's of Cheshire territory. I pulled up at these huge gates, then continued up a winding drive for about half a mile then came face to face with his house, it was huge beyond belief, more like a stately home. To the right, there was a building housing 6 garages with supercars in each one and a 4 bed annex over it. Most Aussie farmers would have been impressed with the amount of land he had.
I got out of the car, said wow, what a house and he said thanks then said they were moving. Bloody hell I said, why would you want to leave a gaff like this?
No way Asiimwe should be considered as the backup RWB.
He struggled to get into a League 2 side last season at Walsall, and indeed was only involved in 4 wins all season for them, one where he was subbed on with a minute left and they were 2 nil up, and the last game of the season, then the 2 playoff semi finals.
He played 30% of the minutes he could have done there, hardly the mark of a player ready to play Championship football
If it helps, since it’s been mentioned again, I’ve narrowed down how many miles each Championship team is from the National Railway Museum in York, so we can have a sort of rough idea of our chances of signing someone that might be rumoured to go to any of our Championship rivals
Birmingham 184 miles Blackburn 71 miles Bristol City 229 miles Us 217 miles Coventry 141 miles Derby 96 miles Hull 38 miles Ipswich 212 miles Leicester 119 miles M’boro 49 miles Millwall 216 miles Norwich 187 miles Oxford 196 miles Portsmouth 278 miles Preston 78 miles, plus the chance to car pool with Small and Euell QPR 205 miles Sheff Utd/Wed 57 miles Southampto 261 miles Stoke 119 miles Swansea 291 miles Watford 203 miles WBA 135 miles Wrexham 123 miles
Whilst it’s clear that we should avoid getting into a scrap with Preston because of their already established links, we really only want to be going for players that Millwall, Watford, QPR, Pompey, Ipswich, Southampton and Swansea also see as targets if we’re to stand any chance of a player not choosing us over a club closer to the museum
You’ll also see the two Sheffield clubs, Hull and M’boro are particular danger clubs to avoid, and if we’re going after any of the same targets, I would urge Phil Chapple to reconsider
Surely the distances cannot be the same for both Sheffield clubs?
Could be. I'm in the very privileged (ahem) position, of living 4 miles from Hillsborough, Bramhall Lane and New York Stadium.
By using a pair of compass, ruler and a paper map of Sheffield you live around Woodseats or Meadowhead 🤔
Your other house 4 miles from the New york stadium means you have a house boat on the Hudson river 😀
A 5 signings target sounds about right to me, I don’t think we need more than that, but however many we do sign, the sooner the better. We saw last season that you need a core starting eleven that know each other and how they play. Bringing new players in is all well and good but it puts the team back to being a bunch of strangers again. Only finding that core eleven in December isn’t really an option this coming season. We need to be looking to pick up points from the start and to keep it going. We may not win or draw every game but that has to be the aim.

Crazy. I think people underestimate the quality of the Championship.

Bit harsh. He got injured and Walsall went on an INCREDIBLE run of poor form from January. Their manager completely fucked up their season
From what I saw of the message boards the fans were disappointed he didn't get more game time
Why loan good West Ham academy players when we have our own good academy players? Contracts have been given for those most at the forefront recently, why undermine that with other clubs academy products? Loaning senior players could be justified, but look at the young loanees we have had, some good, many poor.

Wonder if West Ham would loan us George Earthy? Had a good season last season at Bristol City and would give Doc competition. I get it's probably unlikely because it could be seen as blocking Karoy.

West Ham produce some of the best young players. Their academy is very very good. They will have players very close to getting into their final squad that won’t quite make it. If the rumour is true that Potter is only going to play senior pros then there will absolutely be young prospects that we should look at. The Charlton academy punches way above its weight but at this point I don’t see any of our academy graduates that are anywhere near close enough to step into The Championship.

And I think people underestimate the quality we have within our squad. It may well be in for a rude awakening when the season starts but with a little strengthening it will adapt and overcome.

Maynard-Brewer Mannion
Ramsay, Assimwe A. Mitchell, Z. Mitchell, Jones, Gillesphey Edwards
The squad is small (at least 5 of those above will also be sold/loaned out) and desperately short of quality at championship level - if we went into the season as is (we obviously won’t), we’d set a record for fewest points in a championship season.

I agree. Everybody would have said we were weak the last time we went up and we got off like a house on fire and should have stayed up with some better luck!
I don’t see 6/7 being enough when there’s allowance for 9 subs. He likes a lean squad, but that would have us down to the bone before we even kick off.
This is where I'm at , yes we've now got 9 subs but I don't want the likes of Assimwe, Fullah and Dixon filling out the bench every week because NJ wants a lean squad. We need to have proper depth across the squad and anything that comes from the U21s is a bonus.
Looking at my last squad update, add in 8 total signings and take out the expected outs (Taylor, Ahadme, Kanu and Asiimwe on loan etc) that would still give us 22-24 senior players, meaning when everyone is fit there’s no room for u21s on the bench.
Agreed, but everyone being fit hardly ever happens. We even tend to start the season with players out injured.

Those 6 forwards will struggle in the championship, Godden has the best chance of survival

TC as the main attacking threat won't work in the championship, and having the two Mitchells and Asimwe as 1st choice replacements in this league is insane imo.
Having watched the men's U21's I saw players not in Premier squads that could've game time and starters at CAFC.
Norton-Cuffey is a powerful runner with the ball and is normally a RB and Rowe a speed merchant with dribbling ability who both came on as subs in the win over Spain. Unfortunately Norton-Cuffey is at Genova and Rowe is at Marseille. Creswell a 22 year old CB version of Lloyd Jones with strong heading ability plays for Toulon.
So no chance now obviously but both Cresswell and Rowe had spells at Millwall on loan as teenagers.
All the rest like Hutchinson, Elliott, Nwaneri, Hinshelwood, Livramento etc are above our level.
Tyler Morton, 22 year old midfielder who gets stuck in with a great engine is a Liverpool player but has had loans at Blackburn and Hull over the last two years and LFC might want a different loan for him in 25/26 ? Can play defensive or central midfield.
Other wise we are back to the U19 or U20 not necessarily English but we need C+D winners or at least decent players who can step up to the 2nd tier level in 25/26.

We do, but it has to end somewhere doesn’t it? I don’t see any way in which we have 26+ senior players for example.
