  • Interesting that Jaydn keeps his uncle out of the side and has been promoted to open. Here's a question - when was the last time that Kent had two left handers opening the batting?
Uncle Joe is injured I think

    Managing a groin injury apparently
  • 213/3 at stumps. Compton 86* and Leaning 4*
  • Well batted Jaydn. Decent opening partnership by Kent standards this season.
  • Anderson gets Leaning almost immediately

    218-4
  • What did Jack leaning do to warrant a call back into the four day team? Horrendous decision once again from the management
  • Soft dismissal for Evison for a dozen ball duck as he chips one to short midwicket off Anderson

    219-5

    Compton 92* (167)
  • Compton still there against England's greatest ever bowler prompts me to have a word about someone who was, by all accounts, close to leaving us this season. Compton joined us in 2022 as very much an unknown quantity. These have been his returns in the CC:

    2022 (Div 1) 1,193 runs @ 54.22
    2023 (Div 1) 833 runs @ 32.03
    2024 (Div 1) 735 runs @ 30.62
    2025 (Div 2) 774 runs @ 59.53

So, overall, 3,535 runs @ 41.59. The one criticism, at times, has been that he has been too slow but every side needs a player that is the glue. In fact, his strike rate of 52.12 this season is, by no means, dreadful especially when one considers that the more aggressive types of batsmen such as DBD (SR 55.70 and average of 27.00) and Crawley (SR 58.40 and average of 31.28) have only scored marginally quicker but with a much inferior average.

Compton has a desire to play white ball as well as red. One can understand the need to leave him out of the T20 but we should, perhaps, give him that opening berth in the 50 over comp and see how things go. His experience with Jaydn or Ekansh at the other end could be invaluable. That might persuade him to sign another contract because he is a free agent come the end of the season. If he does go, who is going to replace him? It's not as if openers are "growing on trees" in the CC as evidenced by the current England situation. Yes Crawley might be back soon enough but I would trust Compton to consistently score more runs anyway. Jaydn at 5 instead of Leaning would be a less pressurised way to integrate him in the side too.
  • 100* (201) for Compton
