  • His team are top of the Allsvenskan too, so must be doing something right
  • "About to move out of neutral into drive".

Are we using the same sat nav as that right back from years ago then?

The others i remember from further back on the infamous Clubcall that fell through right at the death
    Ah, yes Club Call.

That cost my employer a lot of money back in the 80s and early 90s

In the early -mid 80's I used to phone the cricket score from work. Used to give you the score & last 3 batsmen out. Played the W.Indies in 1984 and there used to be a different last 3 men whenever I called it !
    Very good, Golfie.
It wasn't just me then(!) 🤩

I missed where we were linked with Tornqvist ...

according to BeSoccer his ELO rating of 73 is way above AMB (59)

What the hell is an ELO rating? Wembley or Bust?

From looking at some footage of him in Wyscout he makes plenty of saves (some are VERY good saves) but doesn't tend to hold much - either palms it away or, occasionally, back into danger.  Has a really important knack of getting something in the way with saves with his feet or body from making himself big.

According to Wyscout he is the #1 ranked goalkeeper in the Allsvenskan and according to BeSoccer his ELO rating of 73 is way above AMB (59) and Will Mannion (56).  So everything on paper suggests he's actually decent.

Same size as Miles too so more imposing than the present 'keepers

Cheers for sharing. Assuming Wyscout is a paid for service?

Sounds positive based on what you said. Not to dig out an old cliché, but a top keeper can earn you can extra 10 points a season. That could be vital for us in our first season back.

With the other clubs interested, and him playing in the Swedish top flight, it feels out of our reach. Sounds like it would be a nice player to land though if we can make it happen.

Rumoured transfer fee/value of him doesn't sound too outrageous, salaries in the Allsvenskan are similar to championship, and there's every chance he could be Swedens no.1 in a few years looking at their current options.

Noel sounds like a catch to me.

QPR, Swansea and one other unnamed club agreed compensation with Peterborough for Poku.

We couldn’t, could we? We like to do our business very quietly, but I highly doubt that it’ll be us.
Probably Birmingham, i think they were linked before.

Would guess it's Birmingham or Rangers.

  • What was that premium football phone line.  Used to nag my dad to allow me to phone it all summer and the couple of times he allowed me I would be so happy but never learn anything of note.
Teletext was how I found out we had bought Djimi Traoure and Amdy Fay
Clubcall. We used to have a phone at school that you only put money in to speak. Would ring from there and got quite the bollocking when we were inevitably rumbled!
I phoned from the fax line at work as there was no call records kept for faxes!
There speaks an ex Roan boy.
I was told how to think out of the box! Back home now after 3 months in hospital.
Great news, I hope all is well and sorted now.

Did we end up with a picture of one of the top Spanish strikers in a Charlton shirt at one point? Something to do with the Joma link up
Fernando Morientes and Javier Portillo I believe.

This was before Morientes had a disastrous spell at Liverpool.

Portillo was wearing the classic green and purple striped kit too!
Most people on here would have wanted to sign him and forgiven the fact that Michael didn’t know the first thing about football, let alone play it…as soon as they found out he loved his trains!! 🚂🚂🚂🚂
What did Don Goodman say about the Venice Simplon Orient Express though?
  • Here's a fact for ya...

    The next 69 are crucial...🙄

    I hope you’re ok.
I messaged you a while back.
I thought I had replied, maybe did it incorrectly. I’m ok to a degree but can’t walk. Hope my physios can work miracles and get me moving again, if only 20 feet.

What the hell is an ELO rating? The rating’s a Livin’ Thing and it’s a terrible thing to lose…

Tornqvist has maintained his by shouting ‘I’m takin’ a Dive’ before every shot stop.

If Joe Gomez left Liverpool and we had another £5M to spend, would this squad be too much to ask for, for next season then...

                          Docherty.       Carey

                                Keiller Davis
                                      Berry

                    Olaofe.           Agyemang or Poku

I was just reading his exclusive to FLW on the likelihood of a DKD signing - which would be a real coup for us, as we are unlikely to finish above Boro, so therefore they will sign him. I think that’s what he meant. He’ll be doing an exclusive on our pop-up shop in Bluewater
later this week, which could be a success, but it’s risky getting into retail as we’re up against Sports Direct and cheap Chinese imports.

  • We won’t get anything if Pope leaves Newcastle will we? Assume we got any payout when he left Burnley.

Iirc we had a sell on so if Burnley had the same and made more money from his transfer from Newcastle onwards we might but it seems very u likely to me.

The one I know is a chess rating, designed by Arpad Elo, a Hungarian. 1800 is a reasonable club player, 73 would be someone who’s just learnt the moves.
