Rayner refuses to save historic beer garden in Greenwich0

Pretty ridiculous headline. It's not a historic pub garden, it's extra tables they have put on a public path.9

I didn't know that, not been to the Trafalgar for many yearsCroydon said:Pretty ridiculous headline. It's not a historic pub garden, it's extra tables they have put on a public path.0 -
Absolutely. The pub is historic, but not the Thames Pathway that they have commandeered for their own use.Croydon said:Pretty ridiculous headline. It's not a historic pub garden, it's extra tables they have put on a public path. That said, I actually think RBG should work with them and find a way to make this work. There’s more space around where the tables / benches are than further on as you head towards the Cutty Sark, centre of Greenwich. If people can navigate that part, then the pub area should be fine. And in reality, it’s not like this is a year round issue. Although with this climate warming…🥵 😉5 -
The pub owner is certainly milking the publicity implying it's their bit of land.0

It was on BBC News I think the other day.It does feel like the council are being petty / awkward when there isn’t an obvious issue.0

It's not the pub's land so I'm not really clear why they can commandeer it?valleynick66 said:It was on BBC News I think the other day.It does feel like the council are being petty / awkward when there isn’t an obvious issue.5 -

I think the point being made was the pub was using it successfully without issue. The customers like it and no real issue was created.hoof_it_up_to_benty said:

I assume they are wary of creating a precedent and there are some issues re access at busy times - it does get blocked.valleynick66 said:

Beautiful historic building but had a horrific pint of guiness before the Lincoln game. Ridiculous decision but essentially a pub for the tourists.

It is an issue, I regularly walk along there and the pubs appropriation of the path isn’t ok. It’s theft pure and simple of something that isn’t theirs.valleynick66 said:

Had my wedding reception at the Trafalgar…the tables outside don’t seem to interfere with the walkway…it’s lovely to see people enjoying the weather outside on those tables…shame3

This is fucking bullshit my 89 year old father got 2 fines of £65 driving down at John’s park road in Blackheath…I don’t live in Uk anymore but what with the cameras congestion charges and speed bumps it’s a nightmare driving in London.PrincessFiona said:https://greenwichwire.co.uk/2025/06/30/greenwich-ltn-fines-income/Greenwich Council has made £2.5 million from its low-traffic neighbourhood

You mean the decision by Greenwich council not the article reporting how much they have made?ct_addick said:

There's no doubt the extra seating creates a bottleneck on busy weekends. It's an area where people have always stood to admire the view in both directions.
The owner also has form for appropriating areas that are not his. He's done it with his previous pubs which is probably why the council are not being very sympathetic.4
