It can get very crowded - would be difficult to navigate in a wheelchair.valleynick66 said:
The BBC news item presented it as not really creating a problem for anyone.iainment said:
It is an issue, I regularly walk along there and the pubs appropriation of the path isn’t ok. It’s theft pure and simple of something that isn’t theirs.valleynick66 said:
I think the point being made was the pub was using it successfully without issue. The customers like it and no real issue was created.hoof_it_up_to_benty said:
It's not the pub's land so I'm not really clear why they can commandeer it?valleynick66 said:It was on BBC News I think the other day.It does feel like the council are being petty / awkward when there isn’t an obvious issue.Pavement eating / drinking when many businesses struggle is not a bad thing generally I’d say.Sometimes a bit of common sense just works. Is that false?
I don't understand why the owner is allowed to take the footpath.0 -
I’m sure if a coach load turned sat on the tables eating their packed lunches, the pub would not be happy.1

This is rich. Poor kitchen hygiene closed it down in the past.0

I think the Trafalgar owner may be opening another riverside pub near the entrance to the foot tunnel - the premises has been empty for some time awaiting planning permission.0
-
used to have some cracking nights there.
Boat party on Silver Sturgeon then Trafalgar after0 -
My Great, Great Grandfather was born in one of the rooms overlooking the river. His father was a sea captain and his mum was in digs there while he was at sea. Unfortunately I don't have hardly any details as all that side of the family have now passed away. There is a matchbox somewhere at my mums with a picture of the ship he captained on it.4

surely its popularity means it can’t be all bad.We used to be a League One team and now we aren’t…😉🙂0 -
not by putting tables on land that isn't theirs thoughvalleynick66 said:

My thoughts really were the pub/cafe pavement culture is a nice thing to see.PrincessFiona said:

Just nice to see business in this sector doing well.Shame they can’t seem to find some common ground (no pun intended) with the council.0 -
yeah but I wanted to set up a burger van and some deckchairs on that bit of land. I don't have the rights to do it, but so what ?3

RBG, have bigger problems than a few tables blocking a path. Had the misfortune to walk up Eltham High Street, it’s an absolute disgrace.Litter strewn everywhere, most bins overflowing, it’s almost third world.Makes me sad and angry in equal measure.1

Greenwich pub wins fight to keep riverside seating

Greenwich Council appears to be run by joyless individuals intent on spreading misery to anyone in the borough.9
-
Fairly ludicrous that a private business can take over a public walkway for business purposes. Does the owner pay anything for this?
It's not the pub's beer garden which numerous media outlets keep referring to it as. Frank Dowling the owner just runs rings around Greenwich council with his misleading comments.5 -
This pisses me off

This is the second time Frank Dowling has 'won' against public bodies (also got Tax evasion charges from HMRC thrown out of court). I suspect he has very good lawyers. Frank does what Frank wants and usually gets away with it.2

Still waiting for him to open the Ship Tavern in Greenwich - presumably he'll claim another bit of land as a beer garden.BalladMan said:This is the second time Frank Dowling has 'won' against public bodies (also got Tax evasion charges from HMRC thrown out of court).
