Why would Galbraith openly say he wants to join Swansea. If that doesn’t happen and he joins someone else it looks like it was a second best choice for him and pisses off fans. Not only that. If Swansea are in the race they can sit it out until late in the window and Orient are more or less forced to accept their offer. I don’t believe it for a second.
My next door neighbour might be signing for Boreham Wood. Ollie Edwards .. was in the Charlton Academy before being released. Has spent the last 3 years at Millwall so will know Aaron Henry
Think a lot of the Orient bitterness comes from the fact that because we beat them, we doomed them to mid-table L1 mediocrity at best for the following season with all the outgoings. Not like with Sunderland, or most losing finalists, where they knew they were gonna have another crack at it
Galbraith may want Swansea but again means nothing if they aren’t willing to offer what Orient wants. Galbraith surely has a few brain cells that if it comes down to the end of the window and it’s either Charlton or Orient he would join us. Would be wasting another year below his level and giving up a year of very good wages compared to what he’s currently on just to stay at Orient. If he is so worried we’re not gonna be competitive enough just ask for a relegation release clause this deal isn’t exactly rocket science
And it's not always just about money...Galbraith from Northern Ireland...Swansea is a hell of a lot closer than Charlton if he wants to visit. Sometimes players (and people in general) have other priorities over money.
About twenty minutes less on a plane …
Are there direct flights from Swansea to NI….no. It takes around 1 hour to get to Cardiff from where there are some flights to Belfast. London City Airport has many more flights .
Whens someone has worked out all the flight numbers, flight times and which airport carpark is available can they make sure they fully update us, so we can make our own informed decision as to which club he's gonna join.
I don't get how a player from any League 1 club couldn't be impressed by us? Prem standard stadium , the Wembley support and the Playoff semi support surely would impress any player? Working under a top class manager in NJ too.
I doubt Clare and REG would have anything bad to say about us either with regards to Gailbraith.
40% sell on sounds very high, surprised we agreed to that during negotiation. Certainly a lot higher than a standard sell on clause.
From what I can only assume is that it’s 40% off the sell on fee that Stockport receive. We could have given 20% sell on fee and then Millwall will get 40% of that fee?
So, if we’ve paid £1.5m and we sell him on for £2m the profit to us would be £500k, making Stockport’s 20% (?) worth £100k and Millwall’s 40% a princely sum of £40k. Yep, can see why the Spanner’s gave up 40% of Stockport’s £1.35m (?) profit….
But what if we sell him for £10m then it’s not a bad deal.
as an established championship club, the £600k is small change and it’s easy money at low risk for them if we sell him on for big money in the future
We are the club that sold persistent goal scorer Alfie May to free spending, cash rich Birmingham for £750k…I can’t see anyone wanting to offer us £10m for anyone unless they’ve consistently got 40+ goals over a couple of seasons…
Jones strikes me as the sort of bloke who would immediately close the book on it if Galbraith said he preferred Swansea.
Which is the right way to operate.
Jones emphasised quite strongly in that interview today the importance of the right characters, and their buy-in to what he's trying to build (and wanting to play for the club).
I remember that Scottish midlfielder we had in 2011 (Michael Stewart I think??) - he was with us for the latter part of the season and we supposedly offered him a deal. He indicated he was waiting for other (better) offers which didn't materialise so came crawling back to us but we quite rightly told him to do one.
If Galbraith has said he's not interested in us then agree Jones is totally right to strike him off our wanted list and move on
And it's not always just about money...Galbraith from Northern Ireland...Swansea is a hell of a lot closer than Charlton if he wants to visit. Sometimes players (and people in general) have other priorities over money.
I’ll wager that you can get from London to NI quicker and easier than you can from Swansea.
Can no-one read...who cares how long it takes..maybe he'd like to go via New York for fun. Maybe he hates NI. It was just an example...sometimes players (comfortable financially or not) might have other priorities over money - maybe Swansea suits him better, maybe he has a Welsh girlfiend, maybe he prefers the Swan logo...I was just making a point that (in my humble opinion) its not always about money!!
All this ‘Galbraith isn’t interested in us’ horseshit has come from some guy on a message board hasn’t it? It’s like believing in anything @RonnieMoore says.
My source at Charlton says the club is expecting a big season from Gassan and they rested him pretty much after his FA Cup heroics at Southend to save him for the Championship.

That and Cawley saying he thinks Galbraith wants to go to Swansea, doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to come here
Sounds like the Galbraith deal is dead. Regardless of whether Swansea can ageee a fee, I can’t see Jones wanting to be kept waiting if EG has said he’d prefer the move to south Wales.
You’d have to think the reason is they’re offering more money, which is fair enough. But I don’t think there’s much of a credible argument that the Swans are a particularly stronger outfit. They’ve struggled badly the last few years. And of course a move to SE7 means EG wouldn’t have to relocate.
So have we moved on?
NJ will not have had the opportunity to speak to EG as we have never been given permission to do so. If we agree a deal with Orient & get permission to discuss terms with the player I think NJ could sell the ‘project’ to him.

Rich Cawley said Galbraith wants to sign for Swansea, but that’s it. Nothing on Galbraith’s views of other possible newclubs.

Thats right, apparently when he's not in the first team he's going to sort the floodlights out, and look to extend the dug outs for seven subs.

That would be a terrible mindset though and a bit hypocritical of Jones considering he has shown 'ambition' in the past by leaving Luton, twice. Not having a pop at our manager, it's just everyone in football thinks like this.
Let's have it right, most footballers don't dream of playing for Charlton, they dream of becoming professional and making it to the Premier League.
"Don't cut off your nose to spite your face" comes to mind.
As a fan I have higher ambitions of players playing for Charlton than Galbraith, but a player like him might help boost us to the next level.
That should be the mindset, as long as they put in the effort, I genuinely don't care if a player has other ambitions, so do we as fans.

Perhaps NJ needs to pop round his house with a batch of Mrs Jones' best laverbread and remind Galbraith that, with the exception of affordable housing and as many coal mining museums as you can shake a stick at, you can get anything else South Wales has to offer in the southeast.

Charlton fans have gone from train spotters to plane spotters.
Having thought about it for some time and wanting to come to a rational, grown up, non emotional reaction to Galbraith's apparent disinterest in joining Charlton. I have come to a conclusion... Fuck him!!

I definitely see the point but I would imagine that the logic is that if Galbraith (or any other player for that matter) was clearly set on a move to a different club and it didn't happen they would "settle" on Charlton instead of actually WANTING to be here which probably doesn't help the team spirit that Jones wants to engender.
Now i absolutely concede that seems hypocritical given Jones own past record for jumping ship for greener pastures but even so that doesn't actually make the logic wrong per se.

I imagine it’s Rodwell. Is that correct?
