Leicester are an interesting one, very unsettled behind the scenes, no manager and a likely points deduction. Loss of Jamie Vardy also likely to have a big psychological effect, as he has bailed them out so often.
Could easily go down if they get off to a bad start?
I think all 3 relegated teams will struggle.

Ipswich will be a lot lower down than predicted
Don't forget they went back to back promotions to get to the prem and they have lost their main goal threat.
This is, in effect, year 3 of a 5 year plan they probably had in mind when they got promoted up to the Championship
I think that’s very unlikely. The parachute teams have such a huge advantage in the championship now, I think Luton was an anomaly, and they also spent a lot of their premier league money on their stadium so is a bit different.

Ipswich’s recruitment last year was clearly with one eye on this season and being able to go straight back up. I think them and Southampton will be right up there, Leicester is tougher to call because they are a mess off the field and might have a points deduction, but they easily have enough time to sort themselves out and end up in the top 6. Burnley were a mess this time last year and still got sorted out and promoted

I’m not sure the parachute money is such an advantage, particularly this coming season. It’s put in place to help teams relegated from the PL to cushion the financial blow and adjust to life outside the PL. Relegated clubs, however, tend to gamble that they can go straight back up. Great if they do, disastrous if they don’t, so it all depends on how committed the ownership, manager and playing squad is to achieving promotion and who the competition is for those three promotion slots. Personally, I’m not convinced by the three teams that came down and I also think there were enough teams in the league this season already that could mount a challenge and that’s before you consider the three teams that came up are all capable of being a wild card in that promotion battle.

Ipswich are a well run club who will keep the bulk of their squad together and add a few, they will do well and I expect will be promoted.

Southampton have a good squad by Championship standards but have just come out of a very demoralising season.  I expect them to do well and get top 6 but if they start poorly then their confidence could drain so who knows.

Leicester are a mess and their owners have made a number of poor decisions and seem to be having cash flow issues.  I could see them stumbling.
  • I asked chat gtp to predict where we finish and the answer was between 16-20. I asked the same question stating that we just signed Kaminski and we are now predicted to finish between 15-17 with 16th being the most likely outcome
  • I don’t know how they can come up with these predictions until the transfer window closes. Load of clickbait bollocks

I don't get all the nerves, negativity and desperately hoping that we'll stay up. Look at the League table today. We're joint top!
Because our ownership, harp on about sustainability, which is a euphemism for small wage and transfer budget.
The Championship is a notorious money pit, and teams with small budgets most likely to be relegated.
Our budget is usually around the 4th or 5th lowest in the league, yet you’ll more often find us competing near the top end of the table than fighting relegation.

It can be done. You need a good scouting network, make good use of the loan system and look for some bargains on the continent.
You've now got one of the most expensive strikers in the Championship so i guess that has changed.

  • I'm feeling slightly more positive about staying in the Championship.
Leicester have risk of x2 points deductions plus financial issues
Sheff Weds in free fall- no salaries paid for 2 nd month means players can leave
    Derby have problems too

  • A 16th / 17th place finish with little drama will do nicely.

And he's got three teams finishing 19th and two finishing 22nd!
  • A 16th / 17th place finish with little drama will do nicely.
In reality, if we're struggling for most of the season, nobody will think "oh we're on track to just about stay up". People instead will call for Jones' sacking.
  • Anyone want my season ticket? Not going to bother now this randomer has decided in July we're going straight back down

    What does th xg predict?
  • Some of these figures are crazy. How long before West Brom are in trouble if they don't cut those losses?

Stoke's owners are loaded but that's a crazy amount to lose to just be treading water in the bottom half of the table.

Note: Operating losses do not include money made from buying and selling players, so the bottom 3 heavily reduced losses by selling players.

I can never understand why people watch shit like this, but each to their own

Hopefully not, I don't remember anyone calling for Bowyer to be sacked last time we went down. I think there's an appreciation of how challenging it will be.

The way things are going, this could well turn out to be a season where the tables get completely turned and the 3 teams promoted from L1 all cause an upset to the normal expectations that they struggle, the PL relegated teams between them grab the two automatics and the other big established clubs get the play offs.
  • Expectations growing with each signing.

  • It is difficult for me to expect anything from Charlton other than a weekly battle for survival. I do not know the Championship well enough. Do expect us to stay up though ultimately.

There have been enough cases in recent years of teams that have become stable Championship clubs with a few that have even managed to advance. Also teams whi relgated straight away but would be very surprised if that would apply to us. Because we have the advantage that we have a stable defense with over 20 clean sheets and that we have even managed to improve our gk. Also our team remains largely intact. With a few quality additions we might even have a very good team with lots of potential.

And several clubs have financial problems such as Hull and Sheffield and there are many more with large weekly losses.
  • 2 weeks ago it was just survival but with another couple of decent signings I might have a bet on us being in the playoffs
  • edited July 4
People are going to have a long-season of anger if people are genuinely at all annoyed/surprised that people are going to predict the team who came up through the League One playoffs as one of the most likely teams to go down
  • Im starting to feel quietly confident, with the seemingly quality signings we are making & it seems more to come, then I do think we will be in the mix for mid table in our 1st season back…looking up rather than down…👍
