That wally of a chairman at P'Boro spouting again.
Sounds like a weird lie to be fair. I don't think he would make that up for no reason.
That's now the 2nd player we have been quite publicly linked with that we didn't up our bid for.
I know people will say "sounds like the club aren't letting themselves be mugged off" etc but these players cost money. For the sake of 300-500k twice to lose out on a desired target, it just isn't worth it, unless you can find someone of better quality for cheaper.
It's ok to say we are on a tight budget, which if 5-10m is true, that makes it the very lower end of champ. It might be that our budget heavily leaned towards Goalkeeper and a forward as those are two positions we definitely needed a player.
Just don't get why it seems we have this view now of "looks like we didn't want to pay then rather than we couldn't" when most signs point towards us just having a low but competitive championship budget. We are going to miss out on players if that's the case, and that is part of football.
Think it’s more the point we think a certain player is worth x amount and won’t pay over the odds. If you take what DMac says as being true where are all the other Championship sides queuing up for Mothersille if you believe he’s that good and available at a fair price? The lack of other interest suggests Championship clubs thinks he’s either not that good or they can do better elsewhere. You do seem fixated in seeing the negative in everything.
We simply cannot be compared to about 18-20 Championship sides as they have better squads, and proven championship players with bigger budgets. They aren't in a rebuild state like we are. Their targets will be completely different.
Malik did have Championship offers, QPR heavily linked (assume Poku signing changed their plans), if you bother to look at most other championship sides, you will realise they already have better quality. That's not to say Malik can't make the step up, it's just how good a lot of the players in this league are.
How am I fixated in being negative on everything? Was I negative about Tanto or Kaminski? I wanted us to sign Bell, we have, I'll post about that in a positive manner.
Offering 200-300k more or whatever it is is not paying over the odds, these are really low end championship transfer fees. I am highlighting the concern that when we appear to be in a transfer shootout, we are losing.
Offering £200K-£300K more than something worth is clearly paying over the odds. Would you offer £600K for a flat worth £300K? You talk some sense but generally seem to draw the wrong conclusion.
Very different market and circumstances. There are slight similarities, cause of value, but it is simply not the same. For a start there are millions of similar looking properties compared to footballers where there aren't millions of professionals, which changes the market. The supply and demand is extremely different from property to professional athletes.
The football market assets are on a different scale to property.
A billionaire paying an extra 2-300k on a player is simply not the same as your average working class person putting a bid in for a flat. Differences in wealth obviously and even if there wasn't, there are hundreds of thousands of fantastic looking properties, there's only one of a certain player, so the seller doesn't have as much leverage in a property market compared to a football club.
I'm not about to break down for you properly why buying a property is very different to buying a football player, especially on a rumours thread, that is ridiculous & bordering on straw man argument.
I haven't said we have had a poor window, I don't actually expect us to spend a bucket load of cash. It's just the quoted fees are the going rates for players. No footballer is actually worth millions of pounds, but if you want to compete in the football market, that's what you're looking at spending for proven quality players. All there is to it to be honest.
“Gave him the choice… Huddersfield came in, he didn’t want to play League One football… Charlton came in, he didn’t want to play… he didn’t think he fit their style of football”
Sounds like he was about to say something else before thinking better and rephrasing it.
I took it as him saying that Galbraith didn't feel he fitted into our style of play. If Galbraith thinks that then fair enough.
What I also took from it is that our approach was put to Galbraith so we must have been willing to match the fee required. Won't fit though with some people's narrative that we are not prepared to go the extra mile when needs be.
Wellens reminds me of the kind of Northerner you meet on the first day of holiday—tanned, podgy, sporting a haircut that looks suspiciously like something his kids might’ve had. By day two, the mood shifts; he's grumbling about the beer selection and eyeing up food portions like he's inspecting ration sizes. At this point, basically anything offends him.
I met Wellens last year in pre season. Couldn’t warm to him at all and he had a real “Billy big bollocks” persona. Really full of himself.

I completely get it. If you’re someone like Galbraith looking to showcase your ability and step up, would you rather be somewhere where you’ll have the majority of the ball, or somewhere you won’t?
Not that we’re a just a long ball team, but there won’t be many games we have more possession than the opposition, if any.

That's the point though - if they're asking too much the money is better spent on someone else we think is as good but who isn't overpriced.
Or if we're going to spend that much, we'd expect to do better.
Setting a limit for what a player is worth and not going above it is sensible, otherwise you end up paying £4m for Will Grigg.
1.5-2 million for Galbraith though isn't too much money and neither is Mothersille for roughly 1 million. The only scenario in which you can say they are overpriced is if you aren't splashing the cash. Cause then you have to factor budget and where you are willing to invest that budget.
The Will Grigg transfer for 4 million is becoming a bit of a false dilemma. Of course not every player does well you pay cash for, there are loads of other examples where clubs 'overpay' and it works out successfully.
We are talking on missing out on desired targets for hundreds of thousands here, if the reports are true, not millions.
I genuinely don't really mind we are missing out on targets cause that is football, and it isn't my money to spend. I just don't see why we can't just look at it for what it is. It's a shame we are missing out, but clubs aren't trying to mug us off, they're trying to make themselves sustainable and the fees being quoted for these players are very reasonable transfer fees.
Maybe e mail the Charlton board, Nathan Jones, Phil Chapple et al and explain to them what a poor job they are doing and offer your services in their place?
Show me where I have said we are doing a poor job recruiting.

Disappointing...nah, clearly the guy didn't want us for whatever reason, and that's fine, cos what we don't want is him here because no-one else wanted him, so fu*k him is what I say Nathan will be on the case and get us all sorted well before a ball is kicked, and it will be people who want to play for Charlton Athletic that come in, and fit in. Roll on August 9th and Watford...👍

He did not get the chance to come to Charlton after we refused to meet Orient valuation .. so there was never a deal in place for him to refuse

Hey dude, well done replying without getting your reply mixed into the previous quote 😉
Was great news this morning regarding Amari'i, but we are now into pm, and looking forward to the next one, must be a reason why it was on the OS so early, so come on Charlton clocks ticking...
Tanto was at 9, I think the reason they do it that early is that people go and check the Twitter page or the website, it generates traffic the rest of the day with people looking for that mystical other signing. Just a way to exploit fans
Yeah really cynical move by the club … signing a player that they know full well will excite the fans and suck them into conversation, enthusiasm, and worst of all - hope.
The club are essentially out on street corners peddling little bags of excitement laced with hope.
Squad taking shape but I definitely still see another minimum 5 and which is more than the club has been talking about. Below is all the senior players minus Leaburn, who, given his injuries I see as more of a wildcard. Three of the five (the starters) will need to be top class imo.
Kaminski
Mannion
New. Ramsey. Jones. Bell Edwards New Z Mitchell. Mitchell. Gillesphey new
Coventry. New
Docherty. Anderson
Carey
Berry
Olaofe. New
TC Godden
How is Leaburn not in this line up? Is he leaving?
hes either injured, about to be injured or coming back from injury.
I know Abbott is not able to cast protective spells over players, but did Leaburn get injuried after he came on board?

So, it’s interesting that despite having Abbott on board that Leaburn has struggled so much over the last season or so. Hopefully it’s a case of his growing body pulling in different directions and now that he’s stopped Abbott can get him into consistent shape
Wasn't there somebody that said that their missus was Galbraith's missus' health visitor and he would be keen to join us? He should ask her to get an explanation from his missus about his vile lies.
