  • For some unfathomable reason I loath MK, both the place and the team.
Made up place with a made up team.
  • AFC are fine, they just have a large element of helmets.

The only thing I like in MK is the bowl.

    Stupid clickbait headline.

But for the record......and nobody will ever change my mind on this.....MK Dons are Wimbledon. That being the Wimbledon that won the FA Cup in 1988. It's called history and you cant change it.

No different to Arsenal moving north of the river and dropping "Woolwich" from their name. In this case Wimbledon moved to Milton Keynes so added MK to their name.
  • No genuine fans should accept Arsenal in the top division as they did not get their place on footballing merit.
Henry Norris was a wrong ‘un.

  • The rules have changed to prevent another franchise from ever happening again and with AFC being a division higher the proof is there that it doesn't work.

If you were a billionaire who wanted a to bring league football to hick town nowheresvile, it would surely be more enjoyable to fund a Salford up the leagues then to take a short cut.🤷🏻‍♂️ The local non-league club MK Town went out of business as well.
Bilionaires do not have a soul...

  • And even if it was a valid comparison, what happened with Arsenal was a very long time ago when football was a fledgling sport and everyone was just starting out and finding their place in the pyramid.

If Winkleman wanted league football for the town of MK then he should’ve bought the local non league club (or started a club from scratch, like AFC Wimbledon had to) and worked them up the football pyramid and got there on merit (something Wimbledon had to do… twice!!), and they would have replaced another team, on merit. That’s how our pyramid works and it’s the envy of the world.

I agree with everything you say except this bit in bold which, to be fair, is something I’ve heard elsewhere.

I believe that other leagues and fans envy the money made in English football but not the pyramid system itself. The systems are quite similar everywhere, aren’t they?

I know how it works in France and it isn’t all that different. Most differences, like regionalising the country into smaller areas from the fourth division down, are simply due to the larger size of the country and therefore extra travelling.
If they wanted to make it into exactly the same system as in England they could but it doesn’t make sense. Or do you think that they envy having a smaller country?

I remember years ago when José Mourinho was at Chelsea, they played Northampton in one of the cups at Stamford Bridge. Northampton was 4th tier and brought something like 8000 fans to Stamford Bridge. Mourinho said theres not a country in Europe where that would happen.
    Happens in Germany as well.
  • If something fairly similar happened to Charlton, it would be a devastating tragedy and would be awful.

I'd like to think I'd stick with the club starting all the way from the bottom again.

    "Milton-Keyne Addick FC"

The name alone is a loss of identity and a soul destroyer.

The worst part would be the split of the fanbase and people turning against each other.

I wouldn't wish that on any club to be honest. Even palace etc.

  • I totally agree with everyone saying it's a travesty, should never have happened, would you still support them yadda yadda yadda.

That still doesn't avoid the fact that MK Dons ARE Wimbledon. The Wimbledon that won the FA Cup and that Vinny Jones played for.

And to answer @MillwallFan.......how far is too far when moving grounds ? Look at all the new "out of town" grounds that clubs have moved to over the past 20-30 years. Arsenal, Leicester, Middlesbrough, Southampton, Swansea, Derby and now Everton.  even Millwall moved to a new ground.

So how far is too far ? Some CAFC fans wouldn't travel the 5 miles to Selhurst. Is 10 miles too far  ??  Or is it just when you move out of the county ?

Arsenal moved 100 yards. Middlesbroughs ground is a reasonable walk from the station. Derbys is still in derby, Everton still play in Liverpool. I’ve never been to Leicester or Southampton’s grounds but they within the city limits. We are talking about 60 miles here

  • I’m sure I remember something in the 70’s, from I think the Mercury that Charlton was thinking of moving to MK.

    Exactly.

And when we moved it was 500 yards the way the crow flies.

And before anyone mentions our first move (115 years ago now lol) that was barely a couple of miles the way the crow flies and fans would still walk from the island, through the foot tunnel, to cold blow lane to watch the team after we moved. Can walk it in half hour. Bus even quicker. We remained in the heart of the docklands, our traditional home, albeit on the other side of the drink.

I know where you're coming from, but it's a Trigger's broom situation - so much has changed they're not the same club any more.

I'm not saying AFC Wimbledon won the FA Cup either, but they continued the spirit of the original club and have mostly the same fanbase, which for me means they're far closer to being what the original Wimbledon are than MK Dons.

    Edited it for you
  • Hate them both, MK for stealing a football club and AFC Wimbledon for their holier than thou attitude, that sign and their c*** disgrace of a groundsman.

For me the fans are the club. Everything else changes over the years. The board, the chairman, the players, the ground, they all change. The one consistent is the fans. So for me afc Wimbledon is the old Wimbledon. That’s the fanbase, that’s the club. The monstrosity of a football club that is MK dons has no link to Wimbledon whatsoever. It’s just a plastic club that stole a league position from Wimbledon. That’s the only connection
They didnt steal anything. They simply moved grounds. The Wimbledon that finished one season sharing at Selhurst is the same Wimbledon that then started the next season playing in Milton Keynes. Same division, same players.

You might not like what happened but please dont try to re-write history.

Same players? for a few seasons maybe. It ended there.
