    So close but so far.

Hopefully she's not far off and is still young.

Still a year younger than Kartal, and look at the progress she's made recently.

So after that, I think she is temporarily GBR no. 3. Mad really. So close - hopefully going toe to toe with Sabalenka will give her confidence to build on

To be fair, she was playing the world number one, who showed why she's up there.

Less than 70 ranking points split Boulter, Kartal and Raducanu currently.

Kartal goes to Brit no. 1 if she wins in the next round.

The greats find a way, like sabalenka did, being down in both sets

yes, it is very close, so not really very meaningful in a way. Not sure Kartal or Boulter would have done so well against Sabalenka but I'm sure Raducanu will take forward how well she did over dropping to GBR no. 3
That said, I hope Kartal goes even further in the tournament

I think Kartal could do Well against sabalenka, she’s incredibly fast, lots of ER’s dropped points were from being pulled out of position, poor footwork or simply giving up on a shot, kartal could make herself a nuisance and frustrate sabalenka, and we may still see that matchup 🤞🏻

No shame in that loss, if Emma carries on like that she'll be a contender

We'll have to see if they meet. I'd have to check the draw. O agree drop shots were Raducanu's main Achilles heel today.

I still don't think Kartal would, but lets see if they do meet.

Sabalenka must be looking at seeds 2 to 6 being out as her best opportunity to date, but does that bring added pressure to her?

    Kartal’s remaining path:

    R4 Pavlyuchenkova
QF Anisimova [13] or Noskova [30]
SF Sabalenka [1] or Mertens [24] or another lower ranked
F Andreeva [7] or Swiatek [8] or another lower ranked

    Norrie’s remaining path

    R4 Jarry
    QF Alcaraz [2] / Rublev [14]
SF Fritz [5] / Khachanov [17] or another lower ranked
F Sinner [1] / Djokovic [6] or another lower ranked

The person at the other side of the net had a lot to do with that !
Fantastic effort by Raducanu and I was convinced she would get out hit by the Amazon Sabalenka which she was in the end. I expected a 6-2 6-2 defeat against the top seed but I underestimated Emma's fighting spirit as well of her love of the big stage.

The win against Vondrousova and the long 1st set against Sabalenka shows she could be a top 20 player if she stays dedicated and her fitness holds out.
Not sure about top 10 but would love to be proved wrong.
Great effort by the Bromley girl.👏🏼

With the British number 1's out in men and women we are down to Sonny Kartal and Cam Norrie to soldier on.
Sonny has had an amazing last year to rise up the ratings and should go past Katie Boulter soon who continues to be so inconsistent in '25'.

This was Emmas best performance for a long time, sure she let some winning positions slip, but Sabelenka is the worlds no.1 for a reason. She hopefully can play a few more tournements, get some ranking points and climb back to the top 10,thereby getting seeded and avoid the big names in the early rounds.Norrie looked really good, kept calm after the early onslaught and won in a canter in the end, dont know much about his next opponent but he could well make the last 8.

For my sins I watched the Norrie match and I have to disagree.  Boy did he play some awful tennis, although he got less awful as the match went on.  At the end of the match one of the commentators said he made his opponents play badly which got me wondering if Norrie is the Charlton of tennis.

If she wins her R4 match she will be when the new rankings are released at the end of the tournament.

If she loses next round she will be no. 2 behind Boulter.

Not yet. The live Rankings have Boutler at 40, Kartal and 44 and Raducanu at 45. A few good wins will change that quite easily as there's not a great deal in it.

Personally, I'm not sure about top 10. Top 32 or even top 20 would be more realistic.

Needs to stay injury free and be more consistent. After her performance yesterday, I'm hopeful of a good hard court season

Hard court season is where the injuries happen, grass is very forgiving to play long matches on.

True, but she is in a better place than she as last year and the 2 previous years. I was going to say more robust, but maybe less unrobust is more appropriate?! Having more game time. And unlikely to be worried about too many tournaments pre the US Open

Sidcup born Sonny Kartal the 23 year old from Brighton will start as slight favourite to reach the Quarter finals against the veteran Russian, Pavlyuchenkova.

I'm not sure you could've 3 more different tennis female players than Sonny, Emma and Katie who are in this friendly rivalry for GB number 1.

Sonny, along with Italian Paolini are the smallest players at 5ft 4in, compared to long legged Boulter who hits the ball with power but can get her feet stuck and is erratic from one game to the next. At 28 years I'm not convinced Katie can ever find the consistency to reach the 2nd week of a slam and reach world 23rd again. She admitted that after her disappointing exit to Qualifier Sierra.

Emma Raducanu played 3 strong matches this Wimbledon and unlike her success in NY slam in '21' the draw wasn't kind to her playing Sabalenka but she beat a past champion in Vondrousova and relished the big stage against the powerful top seed in the 3rd round.

Ok Magazine Katie, and her marriage to Alex de minaur should be a big event while Kartal the self funded player initially, is the quiet unassuming athletic pocket rocket who will suddenly be recognised by not just tennis fans.

Raducanu seems happy with Petchey as her part time coach and I'm so impressed with the 22 year old  Emma who if her body and desire holds up, can reach the 2nd week of slams going forward.

It was all about Jack Draper in the men's for British tennis fans but Cam Norrie who had lost his form until recently has gone under the radar and is having a great Wimbledon and has an even's chance against the Chilean Jarry.
Norrie has no big weapons but is a super athlete and is back on his game so will battle to the end.
