Burke is a bit of a punt to me. Great when he is fit but knowing his injury record, that will be a quarter to half the season at most unless Abbott can work his magic. Feel we need a couple more attacking players. Davis Keillor-Dunn would be the perfect signing for me. I know his transfer fee will be steep but I think we should at least try to make it happen.
Barnsley are looking for £5 million and arnt really interested in selling. I’d forget any hope of signing DKD.

Just got a feeling that with a full pre season and working under the conditions Jones and Dr Abbott will have set, we might be pleasantly surprised at a certain Kaheim Dixon.

He gets into every Jamaican squad and yes, he’s raw, but with the Championship being a different league and having less of the ball in general, he might be a decent option in transition this coming season. Who knows.
Was saying to my old man that I had a feeling Dixon will tear it up this year.

Iv heard we’re definitely interested if we can get the price right, I wouldn’t rule it out.
I’m sure we are. We’d be remiss not to be but he won’t go for less than the £5 million Barnsley want. Not a chance in hell.
  • Obviously extremely unlikely, but if we were going to spend a big fee...

"✍️ Several clubs are keen on Sheffield Wednesday winger Djeidi Gassama, who would cost around £2.5m.

He's expected to be sold as Dejphon Chansiri attempts to raise funds.

As it is Alan Nixon, probably bull, but if that fee was true..

  • We need a 2025 version of Conor Gallagher, who would almost certainly be a loan.

With Gallagher,  we looked a decent Championship side.  Without him, we looked very ordinary.
I just think that the more the window goes on, there may be a chance that could be Rak - Sakyi. (I know they're not really the same position but they have similar ability in turning a game). I am sure it'd probably be on loan as I don't think we can afford to sign him but I just think he'd love to come back as he's still close friends with the squad and he has said before that he likes being close to home. I am not sure people will pay what Palace are after and I think we'd be in the running for a season long loan.

I’d imagine if someone goes in with a 3m bid Barnsley aren't going to turn that down for 27 year old in league one.

I think if someone came in at £2.5m+ add-ons for DKD there is probably a deal to be done. League 1 sides will throw these figures around to put clubs off but I reckon there's a chance of a deal.
What the player wants counts for more these days than previously. He may want to get out of League One a.s.a.p. He is no longer a youngster, but has never played above League One level.

No it doesn’t, if a club doesn’t meet the fee demand that’s the end of story. Don’t matter what the player wants if clubs are offering half of what you want
  • Trust NJ and Chappell to know what they want and what they can expect from each player they bring in. Having just got promoted we are understandably on a high with most of our players but we should not underestimate the step up - the Championship is a much sterner test than when we were last there and some of our players shining against league one oppo does not guarantee the same in the Champ so would expect NJ to adapt play style and some positional changes to ensure we get the most points we can out of the season. Main point being just because some players played with ease at L1 level does not guarantee them being starters or performing to the same levels next season. That said, I hope they do as I love this crop of players. First season in a long while when I have already been and will be a bit gutted to see some of last season’s squad go.
  • If Burke's transfer fee and wages are on the low side it's a sensible deal and good depth with more Championship experience added to the squad which is no bad thing

Is somewhat frustrating of all this raiding of Luton that we're not trying for Alfie Doughty, would like to see him converted to the RW like we did with Small

Players can often force a move though, whether that's right or not.

If he wants to move, I'm sure his agent will start planting stories in the media about unofficial agreements between the player and the club/manager,  wanting to test himself at a higher level etc

Barnsley won’t take any less than they think he’s worth. That’s probably less than 5 mill but the principle is the same, they have a price which they will not go below, it won’t matter if the player is upset about that he will have to deal with

If anyone picks him up for £2.5M it will be one of the deals of the summer in the Championship.  He will go to a recently relegated team or a West Brom type, no chance he comes here imo as much as I would love to see it.

He won’t be at Barnsley when the window shuts .. clubs are just playing a waiting game cause 5 mill is ridiculous money

Barnsley have one of the richest owners in football but he tries to run them sustainably. They sell every summer. I agree he will be gone.  I also agree they won't get £5m for a 27yr old who has never played above L1.

Would like to see him at Charlton but at 27 it would seem like limited sell on value and a risk as who knows how he gets on in the Championship so maybe £1.5-2M is all I would go to.  There are probably richer Championship clubs prepared to take more of a punt.

Any move for Keillor-Dunn will be towards the end of the window when Barnsley drop the transfer fee (not sure how long is left on his contract if they need to move him on this season)

It is an absolute bargain. I don't think wages would be an issue, and the fee isn't ridiculous.

If it is true, we should be all over it.

    As you say though, unlikely.
  • Assuming Burke comes in I feel we have got the easier, and cheaper, signings done and out the way.

A RWB, CAM and forward are going to be harder to tie down and more expensive. Might be nearer the beginning of August or even later before we see movement on those fronts although I’d be delighted if they were done earlier.

Of those done already I’m delighted with Kaminski and Olaofe, looking forward to seeing what Carey brings, can see the value of Bell as he brings a wealth of experience and can cover various positions and was on a free so a no brainer but concerned about Burke’s injury record although his quality is undeniable.

Assuming Burke signs that’s three from Luton. I can see why and Chapple has come in late but I’m really hoping in future windows that he can throw his net a bit wider than Bedfordshire.
I agree. I think a lot of what we've done so far is very good business for the general "building a decent squad" side of business but Kaminski (and MAYBE Olaofe) aside none of it feels like we've really elevated the squad to a higher level in a really meaningful way.

None of our recent business is BAD at all but it feels very much like the aim is to survive and consolidate. Which again I can't really criticise but on a selfish and personal level I'd like to see a real statement of a signing.
