I’m honestly astounded at the level of negativity around our transfer business and the amount of moaning going on. Let’s remember where we have come from and how different it is now under this ownership who have already spent well over £2m this window.

It’s unbelievable how quick fans forget how bad it’s been before. We are now a well run club buying in experience and trying to sign youth.

We cannot get every target as we are now a little fish in a big pond. But lots seem to have forgotten this.
Agreed teams like Preston and Swansea are massive compared to us.
No they’re not but they are established championship clubs we’ve got to build our way up again and signing experienced championship players is a good way to do that.
    4 players signed

    2 with Championship experience.
    2 with league 1 experience.

They are established championship sides who have built their squads over a number of years, prospective signings will look at us and think there’s a risk we may go straight back down.
Do they think that way if it was Birmingham or Wrexham ? It’s purely about money. Pay enough and you’ll get the quality.
Both of those teams are much better than us already though, we are behind them in terms of quality massively. Not like a normal league one season, you had two teams far and away better than the rest with Birmingham being better than half the teams in the division above also. It’s not a fair comparison basing us against blues and Wrexham
Wrexham are not much better than us, once we clicked from January we got more point than them.
Might have been generalising but they are better than us by a fair bit. Our last game against them showed that. They have a big pull due to the hype around them. I think they will do well this season again.

A lot of hype for sure but they've only made 1 (admittedly very good) first team signing so far this summer.

Another CM in at Birmingham, surely a cheeky bid for Marc Leonard is worth it now?
It's quite frightening that Marc Leonard may not even get on Birmingham City's bench this season, but if he joined us he would probably be one of our best players if not the best.
Absolutely agree (and we definitely should be making overtures to Leonard) but comparisons to Birmingham in terms of transfers etc are probably not helpful or even particularly useful.

Outside of the teams with Premier league payments, no-one is going to realistically be anywhere near them in terms of spending etc nor should we realistically be trying to.

Even Wrexham who have thrown lots of money at getting promotion to this level are well below Birmingham so far in spending etc.
I wouldn't compare them to us or expect us to do what they're doing, they're in a much better position than us as a club financially and football wise etc.

They are in the same league as us though, so I am more so just highlighting that that's some of our competition for next season, ridiculous expenditure, again.

By the sounds of things Birmingham don't want to sell Leonard and only want to send him out on loan.

Well it’s subjective and about opinions because I think our squad is probably better than theirs now as Dobson, Lee and the other ex players don’t get near ours . Plus you’re talking about a one off game , we beat Birmingham 1-0 but we’re not better than them.
We lost to them after we ‘clicked’ they were also better over the season. The ex players may not get in but plenty of their other players pull walk into our team, Smith, Rathbone, Cleworth, Hardie etc. nothing wrong in admitting they are a better team than us, it’s just the way it is

Really think this Luton Town ex  player thing is getting a bit silly now,  why aren't we looking at Stoke and Southampton as well ?
NJ wasn't at either long enough ;) and with Stokes squad and manager churn there's probably no one left he signed.

Yeah we also had players missing that game and we just didn’t show up, I’d take that we’re a similar level but they’re not better than us. They’ve got the potential to have a really strong window with the funds they have but I’d take our squad over theirs right now.

Wrexham are struggling in this market - only signed two players, only one for a fee.

Neither us, nor them, are going to go out and do what Birmingham are doing.

Because their players did'nt buy into jones as a manager.

Brum being an exception but it seems to be the teams with wedge do their business a bit later in the window. Can't see Ipswich & Saints not going big but they've been very quiet so far.

The Luton players probably had a lot more buy in to what Nathan was trying to achieve, which is most likely why he/it succeeded at Luton and didn’t succeed at Stoke and Southampton.

i would also guess the Stoke and Southampton players are on wages a lot higher than the Luton players even if they did recently spend a season in the PL.

bringing in a core group from one team can be a good thing. It worked for us when we raided Ipswich when they were relegated. Pretty sure I can recall Sheff Wed did very well when they seemed to be nicking our best players once upon a time.

If we’re going after all of Luton’s assets, what about Alfie Doughty!
Looks like he's off to Boro to link back up with Rob Edwards.

He was obviously being sarcastic, and people did have to point out that they are in fact established Championship sides
  • We got Chappell and Dane in to get Luton players? How about some proper scouting for once ?
If we sign Burke that's 3 defenders that got relegated with Luton, I don't know much about any of them but anybody else slightly concerned ?  :#
  • My only concern with Burke is the injury record , Will Abbott might be fantastic at his job but Luton fans saying we'll be lucky to get 15-20 games from him feels like massive gamble. Feels like the last thing we need is chopping and changing the backline around because someone is constantly breaking down.

Cause they are in the Championship, and aren't flogging, letting go of people in league 1

Different manager. Team set up differently and different players in front of them. No. Not really.

To be fair though, Lloydy doesn’t seem to go long spells of games without breaking down.

Bell's recent injury record isn't great either but we still signed him.
