If a club offered us a biggish fee for one of our stars, say £5m for Ramsey or L Jones, would our owners say no-way?
I’ve thought for a while selling players for a big profit is part of their plan, with some of the money used to increase our budget.

Clearly they’re not throwing money around like some other clubs, so selling for a profit is how we’ll bridge the gap at this level.
With the exception of CBT and May who were sold for different reasons ( mainly wanting moves) the  new owners haven’t sold anyone of note . In fact a lot of people were convinced Leaburn would be sold last summer .

Im not saying the owners will splash money like Birmingham (who will ?) but I think people sometimes underestimate their wealth.
I wasn’t criticising a lack of spending or suggesting they don’t have much money, I was only saying at I think part of the plan is to sell players for a big profit. Get it right then that’s a good thing as it only happens if players are performing to a level where they attract big offers, and it means the club is more sustainable rather than requiring big injections of cash from the owners every season.
I think that may have been the Scott/Methven plan.

We are now in the Jones plan era.

Of course we will sell players (when haven't we?) but not in a Roland way.
Roland rarely sold players for big fees, Ezri Konsa for example. We sold him for about £2m, a year later Brentford sold him for £12m. When we do sell players hopefully we'll be more like Brentford than us under RD.

Luton Town fans pretty much universally saying he is their best defender - which he should be bearing in mind his pedigree. But they also say - 'he's never fit'. As we would say if it were someone who is injury prone for us, they are all betting the house away that he will come to us and NJ gets 40 games out of him.

It does always go like that when a player leaves who was injured for you.
Terry Taylor. Injured for us, player of the year when on loan, now injured for us again. McGrandles likewise
Although it’s fair to say when Terry Taylor returns he will be like a new signing.
    Hopefully for someone else.

Gotta give the guy a chance, I've only seen him play once and he's been here 10 years already

  • The PFA have a squad of free agents (including Sam Lavelle) playing at Worksop Town tomorrow night, live on X, YouTube and TikTok.

John Swift was mentioned in here a while ago as a possible signing after WBA released him, he's in the squad too.

A lot of L1 throwback names in that side!
  • John Swift must be worth a deal for a year or two.

Yes, sell at the first offer to balance the books rather than hold on to increase value.

Galbraith was a wing back ?
No... He was deployed out there during their injury crisis
some injury crisis considering he played right wing back for them 42 times and right mid 15...

Snap their hands off … more then double their worth would not make financial sense to turn it down

Good in the air, very rarely any good on the ground...😉

  • He was a top player for Reading, and was decent for his first 2 seasons at WBA. Weird why his form dropped off so much, and that he's reduced to playing in a PFA free agent game.
  • John Swift must be worth a deal for a year or two.
    No thanks.

Those replies to that tweet feel any potential supporter of the club he joins with confidence!

Let's get Rich Cawley to link both us and Preston with him to enact our revenge on them as they'd be bound to sign him.
...and score a hat trick at The Valley...🤦‍♂️

I know we only utilized Alan Campbell as a loan last season
That is sacrilege. Confusing our Scottish De Bruyne with one of Nathan's parasites.
  • I know a lot of people see us signing players from Luton as just Jones picking up his mates from his old club, but we don't have the budget to sign proven, established Championship players, so we're picking off the best players from a club that need to sell, who have Championship & even Premier league experience as well as League 1 players who have the potential to improve from other league 1 clubs.

I think it's shrewd business, but perhaps I'm in the minority.  I guess time will tell.
I completely agree for the record!

One thing that might also be valuable is that not only are these players familiar with Jones but they also know each other quite well too - in theory at least this should hopefully mean that we see things "click" a bit quicker than they did last season.

I personally would like to see a bit more flair added but I can at least understand the logic behind most of these signings.
They also know the way he wants to play and the environment he wants at the training ground. They are new signings that are guaranteed to buy in to what we are doing and set an example. We can’t see how much having Berry, Potts and Hylton helped Jones with that last season but I’d imagine it definitely did

He was class at Reading and for a season or 2 at West Brom, on the decline now.

If he can't be asked to put a shift in for a club like West Brom on 22 grand a week, I don't see how that would suddenly change playing for us on half of that if he was lucky. Want up and coming players in that role.

Wish we'd stop saying we are signing Luton's best players, cause we aren't. Kaminski yes, real coup, the rest no. Not to say they aren't sensible signings, or potential gems, but to make out we are raiding Luton of their best players is such a myth.
Making it sound like we’ve signed 10 Luton players this season. We’ve signed 2 potentially 3, Kaminski you won’t find a better keeper for 1M in today’s market, Burke which I’ve not seen one Luton fan who’s said he’s a bad player and some say he’s their best Cb which includes a 10M Mcguiness yes he’s injury prone but if we do keep him fit he will be a brilliant addition we managed Jones Godden and Berry who have struggled with injuries very well this season so he’s worth the gamble. Bell I’d agree he’s not the best but his signing makes sense from a cheap versatile experienced viewpoint but either way that’s 2/3 top Luton players. Can argue it’s players that suffered relegation but it’s also players who kept them in the division for years championship experienced and have a promotion on their CV id trust Jones can get them back to the players they can be

Does it not concern you that those players have been through 2 consecutive relegations. Hardly a ringing endorsement, esp as we might be battling against the drop come next April.
