Like a few others of a ‘certain age’ my intense dislike of Wednesday fans goes back over half a century, and I have had four or five ‘close encounters’ with them during that time. These include the FA cup match at The Valley in the 70’s and when about a half a dozen of us held our ground in the toilets at half time at Hillsborough having been ambushed - this being in the 80’s, and this being after the brave so’s and so’s had laid into some of our much younger fans who would not have known how to defend themselves. So personally speaking, I would not shed a tear if they were to find themselves back in League One sooner rather than later.
I'm assuming the Charlton fans who are positive about Sheff W fans haven't been to many Charlton v Sheff W games. I've got a feeling that one doesn't live in the UK and the another said a while ago that they haven't attended a Charlton game for donkey's years (apologies if I'm wrong).
They've given Charlton fans plenty of trouble over the years going back to the mid 70's when they took The Covered End and more recently (as in maybe 10 years ago) attacking us as we exited Hillsborough.
I accept your apology mate
Although I do seem to recall Charlton took it to Wednesday at their place in the FA Cup game in 2006.
Yep, and embarrassed the hell out of the “bigger firm” They also tried bullying once at the liberal club, big mistake
I don't want any club to be forced to go out of business. But, if it took one club going out of business to get the rest of them to put their acts in order, Sheffield Wednesday wouldn't be a bad choice...

Wembley 2019, 38k or whatever to watch Charlton get promoted. When we were still owned by Roland. How many Charlton fans boycotted that match?
You're right of course, but it wasn't a home match. Not sure what the point of boycotting away or neutral matches would be. In the semis, I went to see us at The Keepmoat, but I wouldn't set foot inside The Valley.
Nailed on this lot will be rescued by some billionaire at the 11th hour.
Hopefully.
Need to be made an example of, the merry go round of rich owners not actually giving a fck will continue while there’s still no real actual consequences, he’ll sell it on move on and the efl will get laughed at.

I think its more likely that a money man will let them go into administration and try to buy them at a knock down price. Do we know how much is owed to HMRC?

Think it was about 71 or 72 when the first big trouble with them happened, they were in early & by the time we left the Antigalagan & got in the ground there were hundreds of 'em in the Covered End. There were a lot of Charlton right at the back & it soon went off & continued to do so every so often through out the first half. It was rumoured at the time that some Charlton had left & phoned friends in Woolwich & Eltham to get down to the Valley, which I know sounds very unlikely but in the second half there was certainly a much bigger mob of Charlton but not much trouble as plod had finally got their finger out. After the game there was mass trouble down by the Watermans Arms as wednesday headed to their coaches. The police eventually arrived & got control & that would normally be that, however walking up Charlton Church Lane, got to the top of the hill, & all of a sudden a convey of Wednesday supporters coaches slowly made their way through Charlton Village & caught up in traffic they became a target for a mob of Charlton who had gathered & they threw anything & everything at the coaches smashing many windows. Why they had taken that route heaven only knows !
Years later in a home FA cup game they again got in the Covered End early on & my memory isn't so strong on this one but I don't think Charlton managed to get in there to try & take it back but lobbed loads of stones bottles etc from the sides (Were the railings up at the sides of the Covered End at this time ?) Wednesday returned the compliment by bricking the West Stand in the second half if I remember correctly.
I'm not trying to glorify violence, just my memories (What's left of them ) of things that happened.

Was this when B Mob introduced themselves at their firms main pub ?
Whoever buys them will still have to contend with a 3 window embargo. New owners can be as rich as they want but if you don’t have the freedom to buy players they’ll be in big trouble regardless. Lets hope they stay in the league and get one of the relegation spots.

Does that get removed once a new owner comes in and clears all the debts?

That I don’t know but they tried their luck outside afterwards and got put on their arses. There was a hoolie program a few years back and one of their main faces was on it complaining about getting clumped.

Don’t see how it can be. It’s a club punishment not an owner punishment. I don’t know though..
I find difficult to have any feelings for any other club. If a club fails in our league, that's one less for us to worry about and hopefully we can add to their misery on the pitch and contribute to their relegation. There's not much room for sentiment in any business and football is a business. I can remember back to the games with Wednesday since the 70's, their supporters are not too different to any others at any point in time. They took the piss out of us the day we got relegated much the same as we have to clubs a bit closer to home. These little spats seem to go and come around and bite. We have, for the time being, turned a corner and are now heading once again in the right direction with a board and setup that seem to be working towards better times. I don't doubt for one moment things could go pear shape once they get an offer from someone with more money than most, as had happened to us in the past. Until then I wont worry too much about who owns us or what their motives are, its part of football. Someone will make the owner of Wednesday an offer sooner or later and he will either except he's made a loss he is not getting back or he will be left with the scrap value of the club and make a bigger loss. Sheffield Wednesday will survive in one shape or form, I am certain of that but I couldn't care less about them whatsoever.

A pretty fair assessment. I don't want them to go under, but at the same time if they're a complete shambles of a club and it helps us to stay up then great.
I still have a feeling they'll get bought out and within a couple of months it'll be like Chansiri never existed.

I would think they still would be under the embargo, otherwise why put a time frame on it? May as well just say you’re embargoed until you sell

One of his companies owns the ground, which is separate from the club, so presumably he'll want to sell that too as it has no value without Wednesday playing there, listed as a community asset on a flood plain, which isn't suitable for building on.
The three window embargo is a serious hindrance. They’ve lost players this window and will find it very difficult to replace those with free agents or loans with no fee of the necessary quality and who would go there unless they’re desperate, not knowing if you’ll get paid. Even with a sale to someone with money they still can’t sign anyone for a fee or even loan fee until the January window 2027. A points deduction would look like leaving them with an absolute mountain to climb to stay competitive this coming season. I suspect they’ll get sold and the new owner will clear the debts and successfully appeal the embargo. Not quite sure what happens should Wednesday go into administration because then the debts are not likely to be paid in full.

The punishment remains. Any new owner needs to factor that in and it should reduce the asking price too.
The embargo stays in place until the club has met all its financial obligations. That could happen swiftly with new ownership but if the club enters into administration it is unlikely that all those financial commitments would be met in full.

However 'wealthy' we believe some club owner to be, there's no actual obligation for Chansiri or any other to keep pissing money down the drain funding a basket case "business" like a 2nd division football club. We can rant on all day long about some moral obligation blah blah but that's cuckoo land bullshit. If the business is bust, it can go to the wall. Bury, Wednesday, whoever The consequences for Chansiri are far worse keeping Wednesday afloat than they will ever be for shutting it down and writing it all off. It has cost him tens of millions more to piss about all this time, rather than cutting it off or flogging it when he lost interest. I'm not defending him, his record is atrocious, god knows why he's put up with the hassle all these years. Wednesday's financial malpractice (by football's rules) in recent years has been overseen by the EFL and they haven't punished him in any meaningful way, apparently terrified into inaction that Wednesday might drop out of the league - as if that's worse than Wednesday cheating by short changing staff, clubs and suppliers. EFL has essentially endorsed Chansiri's conduct and cheerfully played along. Their last significant points deduction was kicked down the road by EFL long enough that it wouldn't automatically relegate Wednesday in the season from which they had indisputably benefitted from rule breaking. Until such time as this piss weak fannying about by the game's "authority" changes for the better then piss takers and clowns will continue to jump on and off the merry-go-round to the detriment of all concerned.
