  • Lansbury was always quite attacking wasn't he? Not quite a 10, but a pretty dynamic and forward thinking 8.

That's meant to be Docherty and Anderson in the current lineup, which is somewhere we could do with an upgrade, unless we get in another 10 or striker that's particularly prolific.

Would take Harvey Knibbs or Savage at Reading.

Harvey Knibbs had 14 goals and 6 assists as an attacking midfielder for Reading and at 26 will be able to step up.
If we have Three possible numbers 10's in Berry, Carey and his Knibbs, great as we need that in our 20 man squad as well as the 16 players who may get on the field during the match. The days have long gone since the 11 chosen to start a match will finish the match.
And indeed the starting XI may not even be the 'best' XI depending on the game plan.  With 5 subs there is a bigger opportunity for 'impact' players in the match day squad.  Game changers

He was a young striker we signed for a small fee as we thought he had potential - he’s reached that potential having spent 4 of the last 7 seasons in the Championship, including the last 2.

It wouldn’t surprise me if we brought him in, but hopefully we can sign better and younger.

  • From that Sheffield Wednesday list I'll be disappointed if we didn't go for Bernard and Lowe. Surely there's room for another couple of Jamaicans in the squad.

    CM- Lansbury
    ST- Adebayo
    ST- Cornick

This was the main lineup NJ took to 6th in the championship in his last full season before joining us.

People wanting flair and creativity it’s not gonna happen based on his football, that is the most defensive and structured side you will ever get at this level. Not a single midfielder finished in  Luton’s top 5 for assists that year. As well as that Luton ranked 23rd for Possession and passes that season as well as 18th for SOT per game and still finished in the playoffs.

There’s a difference between needing and wanting more attacking creativity we don’t need creativity because of who we have in charge and how he plays he’s proven he can do it without having that playmaker in the team
As Jurgen Klopp said “No playmaker in the world can be as good as a good counter-pressing situation”.

This applies to us in our situation, any playmaker we could sign, is not going to create as many chances as we will create from being a brilliant out of possession team that wins the ball back in good areas, and being horrible big bastards from set pieces. This is the route we’ve gone down, it worked last season and I think will work again
If it works then I’ll be more than satisfied but we’re not going to win many friends next season. Not that that matters.

The PFA have a squad of free agents (including Sam Lavelle) playing at Worksop Town tomorrow night, live on X, YouTube and TikTok.

John Swift was mentioned in here a while ago as a possible signing after WBA released him, he's in the squad too.

That’s not Tom Davies the former Everton midfielder is it? Did he sign a 1 year contract at Sheffield Utd. Surely he’d be worth getting in for pre season and taking a look
More likely the one released from Tranmere:

https://www.wirralglobe.co.uk/sport/25142261.davies-morris-norris-released-tranmere-rovers/#:~:text=CLUB captain Tom Davies and,of the 2024/25 season.

Ex-Everton midfielder appears to still have a year left on his Sheff Utd contract.
It would be amusing if a few managers and scouts sat down to watch this game, hoping to see the wrong Tom Davies!
  • Well I did ask in the restaurant about Mathias Ross, @fenaddick, and I really should have got my order in first as it took Petr the owner about 10 minutes to describe how bad he was🤣 Very light for a centre back, which they could have lived with in the Czech League, except that he didnt have pace to compensate, and was extremely vulnerable to a ball over the top. Said that against an ugly old- fashioned English style striker like Tomaš Chory (now at Slavia)  it would have been a massacre, but he was spared that as he was always on the bench for those games.
Petr says he read that he still had a year on his contract at Galatasaray, but they cancelled it and so he’s a free agent.

Happy to delete this after a short while, before anyone from Preston reads it 🤣
    Sounds perfect.

What we do probably need from a new midfielder or wing back signing is good set piece delivery. Edward's long throw is good, but we need someone with good delivery from corners/free kicks. We did reasonably well from set pieces last season but they will be even more important this season. Derby were pretty poor with the ball last season but scored 22 from set pieces (most in the league) probably the key reason they stayed up

We can have 9 on the bench, so need way more attacking options than we currently have. Michael Smith would be a very useful option to have on the bench, now we don't have Chuks or Hylton.

I can't see him coming down south again, but he might feel he has unfinished business.

Nor did we last season to be fair. Any plaudits we got were for the energy/fitness of the team not for the quality of our free flowing creative football.

I personally would LIKE to see a bit of artistry added to the graft but I think that Naby is absolutely correct to say it probably won't happen.

He made one appearance as a sub in the FA cup against Halifax and I'm pretty sure he got an assist for Pritchard's goal.

I was concerned about his pace once I checked his cards on fifa and football manager etc. Not saying those games are completely true, but they're never too far off.

Will add the pace of Mathias compared to our similar sized centre backs as bench marks

    Spoilers to not clog:

  • Any actual rumours.....?

    Thought not.

See you all tomorrow for another day of discussing line ups, ex players we should sign, Luton players (past & present) we should sign and finally just about anyone who can kick a ball....that we should sign.
Back to the cheese puns for the next few days? We would feel less blue, whilst we wait and brie what happens.

The post immediately before yours is part of the discussion about a rumoured signing.

"Actual rumours" is a bit of an oxymoron, given that rumours often aren't true, and if you want rumours with substance that turn out to be true, you are either seeking a time machine, a modern-day oracle or should just wait til things are announced. Which is it bossman?
He doesn’t want either, just likes having the opportunity to moan
  • Probably the 33 yo Tom Davies that Tranmere released…….

And what’s his pace on FM? We all know FM is more accurate than FIFA…
