Article says he wants to start, not sure where he would do that in our system?
Can play left back. Good competition for Edwards. Could see him offering what McClean does for Wrexham
Article says he wants to be a guaranteed starter though, which is why he hasn't gone to their pre season camp. If we were in L1 he'd be worth a punt I think but I prefer Edwards
Experienced, off of the back of a good season for Pompey, leader, might have more experience than most of our squad combined?
I'd prefer our players to have genuine competition as we have stepped up a league, each to their own though.
Not at 35, though. Would rather someone with a sell on value.
Why not? Can't keep saying Ben Watson as an example as our knowledge must expand beyond Charlton Athletic. There are plenty of cases of older players joining clubs on their downwards trajectory and doing well.
As for sell on value, we already have plenty of players in that category, if they do well. Kayne, Edwards, TC, Leaburn, Tanto, Coventry just to name a few. We lack a lot of championship experience, at least in the sense of players who have been there and done it playing at the highest level, consistently.
I think he would be a good stop gap player for a year or two. The majority of his pro career in the prem or championship, over 600 professional appearances, clearly still wants to play as he is leaving Pompey cause he isn't guaranteed play time (wouldn't be coming to steal a living), and a calm, experienced head in a very inexperienced team (overrall) in our first season back in the big time.
If we think we can do better than something like that, I can't wait to see it.
Matt Ritchie would be terrible. Nothing in last 3 years to show he would improve us.
Not to digress, but if you look at our business so far (in and out), it looks decent
out

We’re exactly a month away from the start of the season, most teams have only been back one week and if we are going to bring in loans from the Prem (for example), we may have to wait for a couple more weeks given the club World Cup is only just finishing. I’m not saying we’re in for any loans from Chelsea etc, more so these clubs’ players will now have to have a couple of weeks off, and I think a lot of transfer activity gets driven down the pyramid, ie, the Prem clubs try to get in who they want and then we have a better idea of youngsters who will go out on loan, and if they go out on loan, does that suddenly mean X may be available from a championship club etc
personally speaking I’m happy with where we’re at, but want to see this momentum maintained
Agreed but what on earth has any of this got to do with the National Railway Museum?
Cables is running out of puff but he will try to get this thread back on track to NRM.

Matt Ritchie would be terrible. The same Matt Ritchie who the vast majority of Pompey fans are saying they'd rather he stayed.
Struggling to figure out who might know best here about a player. The fans of a club who watched him all season, and has the stats to back it up, or Charlton fans who probably didn't watch a single minute of him playing.
We won't sign him anyway, so it isn't really a discussion to be fair, but to be so ignorant to dismiss a player of that quality and experience in which we are lacking, without actually watching him, bonkers.
Like I said, I will be pleasantly surprised if we bring in better.
Couple of interesting names there , Joe Rankin-Costello is an RWB at Blackburn and Jesse Derry is Sean Derry's son played on either flank for England at the U19 Euros , appears he's just left Palace.
I have friends who are long-term Pompey season ticket holders and they say they would be more than happy to see him leave and in their opinion he is ‘past it’, a view they say is shared by many of those that sit around them at Fratton.
Luke Harris had 29 apps for Birmingham last season on loan from Fulham but not sure how many from the bench. So many under 21's at Premier clubs and many struggle when they go out on loan. Has anyone got a recollection of his performances for Birmingham?
Bollocks account. That Derry has been linked with top champions league sides.
Rankin-Costello would make sense cause of where he plays/can play, bit part player though at Blackburn, think he had injury issues for 2 seasons or so.
3 goals and 1 assist last season for Brum. Hardly a creative spark.
Looking into it more he only started 10 league games for Birmingham, the other 19 league appearances were as a sub.
I don’t see where he fits in with Carey and Berry competing for the attacking midfield spot, and that does seem to be his role rather than a box to box or defensive CM like Docherty.
If it does happen it must be because we see a lot of potential in him as we have more obvious gaps elsewhere.
Maybe NJ sees Anderson as the 8. He played there a few times last season. He would need a big improvement mind, particularly retaining possession more.

I think its bonkers that you want to sign a player we dont actually need.
And Pompey fans can say what they like but the management, our divisional rival, who are by no means are no sure bet to stay up said he isn't good enough.
So I agree to a point, my opinion of who we sign means nothing but I can certainly debate the fact who I believe we need and he isn't it as we need other positions sorted first.
I've heard glowing reports about Jesse Derry so that would be a real coup, and therefore feels unlikely.
Reading up a bit about Harris, the Brum manager spoke very highly of him but also said he struggled to play him in his natural position and provide him with a consistent role, so maybe a reason why his stats don't jump off the page.

To be fair, we are arguing over a player we won't sign, and it's the rumours thread.

One that has been offered to us according to Cawley.
Never like players that have been "offered" to us. Sounds like we are doing Fulham a favour & can't scout for ourselves.
Seems like they’ve gone we need a fee for him next summer, best chance is to loan him to a championship side to build his stock up. Which team can he possibly start for in midfield in the championship Yh Charlton that will do.

I think Enslin will overtake all our other young hopefuls from January onwards. Fast and great ball control. Likes a tackle too.

You’d be surprised how much this happens, it’s usually agents offering their clients around clubs they think might be interested. Usually doesn’t go anywhere unless the player was already on the clubs shortlist
