  • I assumed it might be linked to the personal conduct investigation of last year.

Maybe he’s equally had enough after that episode and is happy to step away if his bosses no longer want him there.

Seems a very pleasant job if the media pick him up and he follows the sport that way in future.
  • After seeing the news earlier this morning that Christian Horner has been sacked after 20 years as team Principal of Red Bull, my first thought was I know drug taking is prevalent in all spectrum of society but was Horner guilty of sniffing ginger Spice 🤔
hope your second thought was a bit betterer.
  • Horner to Ferrari rumours a month back don't seem so far fetched now.

Add in Lewis comments about Max moving to Merc where he said Red Bull are a fantastic team maybe something is happening behind the scenes
  • I wonder if there was a performance clause in his contract too, similar to in Max's.

It's the halfway point of the season and they are 4th in the constructors, so given what's happened off the track, this might have triggered a situation where he could be sacked without having to bring up the personal stuff, an easy out for everyone

From what I understand from articles about the Red Bull power dynamic , the Verstappens have won.

I suspect it ultimately boiled down to " sack Horner or Max goes to Merc"

Does throw up an interesting conundrum with the second seat if Mekkies is the long term replacement and not a caretaker
This is my take on it too.  Some on "X" speculating that it's because Verstappen has signed for Mercedes and therefore he was fired for letting it happen but that doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.  Much more likely IMO that it was either Verstappen or Horner and the Red Bull owners have said Verstappen too important.
It would tie in with how the Verstappen's seem to act, it always feels like they've held Red Bull to ransom in the past so they can get their way with whatever they want, which in turn has turned Max himself into this stroppy looking character when he doesnt get his way.

I couldn't see him working well at Mercedes for that reason, or elsewhere even, as he wouldn't have that protection.

As I've put elsewhere and got a bit of flak from Verstappen fanboys for, he's a terrible terrible fit for Mercedes. Toto has a no dickheads policy and Max would have to do sponsors events , no more " I fancy going and testing my GT teams car this week, sod the sponsors"

You're got George who's the perfect company man who if Toto told him that IWC wanted him to unveil a watch he'd be there and do it.

Also I doubt Red Bull are releasing GP to go with him when they gave him a promotion. I can't see Max and Bono or Max and Marcus Dudley working at all.
  • Today is the first day of Kimi Antonelli’s life that Christian Horner isn’t the head of Red Bull
  • The report on BBC F1 website re Red Bull is excellent.
  • No idea of the rights and wrongs of it, RB strikes me as an absolute snake pit of an organization, but I will not miss the smug prick appearing on my screen after every race one bit.

Andrew Benson is such an underrated F1 reporter, not always the first to a story but he's always well researched and gets things right. He's like Cawley in that regard. He also has an almost encyclopaedic knowledge that he can just pull at at will, he's brilliant

Was listening to him on the BBC F1 podcast earlier talking about this story. He actually made a comment that working at the BBC means they have to be absolutely certain of its veracity and pass various checks and balances before reporting on a story. It means that can’t be as quick to break news as other organizations but sound like he knew about this just as early as others did.

    Cawley at the back post!

    Benson down the inside!
  • Just watched the "Hill" documentary on SKY - Nothing really unknown in there, but still really nicely put together.

Probably one of the more underrated World Champions in my opinion, and often regarded as the least deserving. But given when he entered Motor Racing, the fact he got into F1 so late, raced against some of the best in history; Prost, Senna, Mansell, Schumacher... and still came away with a Championship, says a lot for me.
Watching it now, shows just what a cheating wanker Schumacher was
  • IMO Schumacher was the most ‘flawed’ sportsman ever. Brilliantly talented - but so many examples that even go beyond Max. Max pushes the boundaries in terms of driving aggressively safe in the knowledge he will run the risk of a penalty.

Schumacher was more conniving…. Stuff like the Monaco parking incident, pushing Barricello towards the pit wall, Adelaide 94.

Just shows how Anthony raised Lewis in a completely different way. It’s one of the things that makes him great in my eyes - won things the right way on track 99.9pc of the time

Agree regarding Schumacher but let's not pretend Lewis was whiter than white.
He's done his fair share of shithousery in the past.

I think Schumachers 'moral compass' was unduly influenced by some form of magnetism in his racing cars.
  • Schumi for me was my first sporting hero so I turn a blind eye to it all I'm afraid.

He was the driver that revolutionised the way they all think now, the discipline and the dedication to learning the circuits, the data and the engineering in the cars and the physical prowess he showed made him so dominant
