A change of skipper can sometimes affect team morale detrimentally. We had a great finish to last season and whether Doc is a regular starter or not I can't see any need to change this right now.
No need to change it if Doc doesn’t start. He seems like a great leader anyway so not sure why you’d take it off him
This is a joke right???
Nope, not all leaders are big shouty Dobbo types. Some know how to do it quietly and he’s clearly one of them
Dobson although all action was the very opposite of a shouty type on the pitch. Docherty on the other hand not only is shouty, but also clearly wears his emotions on his sleeve.
I can't see the club captaincy being taken of Docherty, as it feels quite a brutal step to take.
It wouldn't surprise me though if Lloyd ends up wearing the armband a lot of the time, as I can't see Docherty starting as many games next season in the Championship.

Yeah I imagine Doherty stays as "club captain" but there might end up being someone else who ends up being skipper on the pitch. L. Jones is a strong possibility, but NJ seems to favour midfield captains - maybe Coventry steps up?
I find it amazing that the man who led us to Wembley, and raised the trophy, can be binned by people who have never played professional sport, and have no idea of what goes on in the background...
If you were treated in your own professional life the way you want to treat Doc, after an incredible season, how would you all feel?

If we buy a better central midfielder, Doc will lose his place in the team, that's how football works.

That's a different question to if he should be club captain or not though. No player is undroppable

I imagine he knows there will be stronger competition for his place this season and that he shouldn’t assume he’s guaranteed his spot just because he’s captain.
The new signings haven’t joined with the expectation they’re only here to be cover for last seasons regulars. All places in the starting 11 are up for grabs.
I would also think Doc would be unhappy if we got promoted and didn’t strengthen the squad. He still has ambitions to play for Scotland, so to do that he needs to be playing well in the Championship at the very least - that doesn’t happen without us improving the team and some players losing their place.
Unlike cricket for example where the captain makes most of the on field decisions, the role of a captain on the pitch in football is greatly exaggerated. The captain represents the club to the referee, calls the coin toss - and that's about it. Professional footballers should not need to be motivated by another player - they should be able to self-motivate and part of their role is to encourage their team mates. All of the on field decisions, formation, tactics, change of tactics, substitutions (who, when) and so on are made by the manager!
A Club Captain should be looked up to and respected by the rest of the squad, a person any player can talk to if they have an issue (professional or personal), and encourage on the training ground and in the dressing room. The Club Captain can do all of that whether he's on the pitch or not.
If Doc fits that description then he is the right man for the job.

Doc might be great off the field, but on the pitch Lloyd is far more of a leader. I like my Captains to be quite vocal.
Something that was very clear last season was the morale and togetherness of the side, especially from January onwards.
Our momentum from that incredible run of points could be incredibly important to us as season starts. Personally wouldn't want to do too much to disrupt that, and feel Doc staying as captain is good for the squad as a whole. Whether or not he's on the bench due to players coming in who works better with what Jones wants to achieve.

So that's all you thought Jacko did? Or Kinsella?
Of course not - but you don't need an armband to lead by example. Every player should do that.

We did the same when Pearce / Solly were at the end of their careers.
One sole Captain on the pitch with the armband is an overrated role anyway, need to have leaders all over the team
