Meeting Charlton Fans... Unexpectedly!

Just wanted to check in with others who might have met other Charlton fans in unexpected situations.
Living in Sheffield, the other day I was sat in my neighbours garden. I'd just made a round of brews for me, neighbour and his mate. At which point the visiting mate spots my Charlton mug and says, "Who's the Charlton fan?" I explain it's me, before he drops a bombshell (it is to me) that a mate of his is also a Charlton fan. A brief text message exchange results in said Charlton fan turning up at the garden meetup.
As it goes, this lad lives in the same area of Sheffield as me.
Unremarkable you might think but his back story is lovely. He was a kid at school in Sheffield 20 years ago, when his mates were all picking teams to support. Not wanting to pick a fanshionable top 4 club, he picked Charlton and his love affair took off.
He has since gone to games all over the country.. His knowledge of the high and lows was extensive, as was his views and reviews of games and squads over the years he's been watching.
The remarkable aspect for me, is that he doesn't know a single other fan socially and has travelled all by himself.
Not that it is relevant, but he is a lad of Pakistani heritage, thus most of his friends are into other sports, hence none show any interest in his Charlton musings.
Wondered where anyone else might have struck up a conversation with a fellow Addick, out of the blue, away from the football community.

I thought this might end with him being your son from a long lost liaison you’d long since forgotten about. If you edit it now, I think this thread could go a long way. If I can suggest you make the mum a hairdresser.36

About 4 years ago I was having coffee in a bar one morning in Kalkan,Turkey. Apart from my wife and I the place was empty. A family came in and started chatting to the waiter about Englush football.
Eventually they waited asked him who he supported.
"You won't of heard of us ... Charlton Athletic".
I turned and said I have. Like myself they were ST holders in the Upper West. We had a good chat and went our separate ways never to meet again.16 -
Once had a session in a bar in Hong Kong. Got talking to a local and eventually found out he was a Charlton fan despite never having visited England. After many more beers, the bloke sang Valley Floyd Road word for word with me.23

just watching the Battle of Britain for the 300th time, reminds me that I recently visited Tangmere RAF museum near Chichester, walked through the door and first person I saw was wearing a CAFC shirt.6

I was in Ilkley many years ago visiting a friend who had moved there for work.
We went to a pub in the town to watch a Charlton match. I believe it was against Blackburn but I can't be sure. The only other people in the pub were two season ticket holders that lived there and went to every home game.

2003 and walking through the Queen Victoria markets in Melbourne wearing my Charlton shirt. We were off later to the England v Western Samoa Rugby world cup match at the Telstra dome.Charlton were playing Arsenal in the early kick off, the match where Di Canio scored the penalty.A stall holder comes up to me, total Aussie, and goes “where are you watching the game later?”
I said I wasn’t sure and did he know anywhere that’d be showing it.
he told me about this pub called the keepers arm in North Melbourne that had a big Charlton following going there as his old man had emigrated from Woolwich in the sixties or seventies and ended up in Melbourne.
With the success of the premier league, he and his mates were looking for a team to follow and his old man said that his team were in the premier league now and they all ended up following Charlton!
I turned up there after the Rugby and the pub was full of Charlton flags and scarves and about 20 people cheering us on!Unfortunately I don’t think the pub is there anymore!21 -

My wife and I were on the Highline walk in New York, visiting for our wedding anniversary in April this year.
I had one of my old Charlton shirts on.Out of nowhere, this guy in the distance starts shouting out ‘Charlton’, and I mean very loudly. He drags his wife through the crowd to us, seriously excited.
They were Chinese tourists and we had a really nice chat for thirty minutes all things Charlton. Not just that the guy was basically in love with Zheng Zhi, but he knew everything about every season since. Had even been to The Valley a few times.
Only had one other person in New York mention Charlton, that was an Irish guy who was drunk and told me Charlton were sh*t19 - Sponsored links:

Was in the Pyrenees for a ski about 15y ago and someone noticed me wearing my Charlton shirt as I was getting out the car. Had a quick chat all things Charlton. Came back to the car later that evening to find a business card on the windscreen with "Greetings to SE7!" written on it2

I’ve lived very close to Sheffield for over a decade and work all over the city and have never come across another Charlton fan so fantastic to hear there is at least 3 of us.

I was at Lord's yesterday wearing by Che Hales t shirt, so met another Charlton fan in the Mound Stand.
More surprisingly, the steward/doorman in the Lord's museum was also a Charlton fan. He came to this country in 19/20, so is looking forward to only his second season supporting us in the Championship.11 -

It wasn’t entirely unexpected, but was also at Lord’s yesterday and spoke to Big William before start of play.Plus ooh aah and I assume his boys were sitting a few rows in front.
I was tempted to ask them which one is little shit, petrolhead etc, but thought better of it17 -

Though, having spent the afternoons imbibing mojitos...
Saddened that Tyrone lost to Kerry today, for all that that will please other Addicks.
And, relating things back to the original post, that was me in 1983-1984.
P.S. I should add that a few nephews and nieces, who might not claim to be Charlton fans have succumbed at least in part to the serried blandishments of my years of support.
P.P.S. There was another Charlton fan in Omagh about 20 years ago, the husband of a friend of my sister in law, not that I ever met him...3 -
Bumped into a Charlton family in Cala D’or, Majorca a week after the play off final this year. Heard one of the kids singing Godden again, so had to get involved haha13

Was in Kuala Lumpur in January. Walked into a side street and spotted a Charlton fan wearing a home shirt.
I belted out Valley Floyd Road (my wife was embarrassed and looked the other way). The guy said he worked there but didnt want to chat...he had a young Malaysian lady on his arm, I got the impression he had other things on his mind 😅.15 -

The day after the play-off final this year I went shopping in my local supermarket wearing a Charlton t-shirt. The supermarket is about 45 miles from The Valley, but a bloke approached me and said 'nice shirt', he then asked if I went to Wembley. Turns out he's a Charlton regular. Never seen him in that shop before or since.1

Think I’ve mentioned before but seem to remember years ago that the governor of one of the pubs in Tintagel was a Charlton fan and had various bits up on the walls?!?0
