    I'd take that...
Apparently ChatGBT said that if only Charlton had managed another 6 points in its assessment of the outcome of games they would finish in the playoffs…

If you swap Wrexham for Norwich and Boro for West Brom, and drop Leicester a few places cause of the points deduction, that isn't too far off what I am expecting.

God knows what's happened beyond that though.

You’re expecting us to be near the bottom and Charlton ten places above us?
  • Can't see Birmingham struggling. Adding Beadle, Gray,Doyle and Osayi-Samuel to the squad they have already have should put them top half/edge of the playoffs. I'm a lot lower on Wrexham than the consensus I know , Pompey in a relegation scrap I could see - they're going to need exceptional home form.

No, I am saying the top7 looks about right bar Wrexham, then the rest of the table looks a mess. That's why I said "God knows what's happened beyond that though".

I don't think Millwall will finish 24th, very unrealistic.

    22nd will do.
    Ah right got you

I'd be surprised if Birmingham aren't up there, they have a good team from last season and have recruited pretty well.
  • I know Beadle is very popular on here (understandably so) but the evidence of the last couple of years is that he isn't of a level to be a promotion winning keeper. He has too many clangers in his locker. For his sake I hope I'm wrong but I don't think he's quite there yet.

  • I'm feeling optimistic .. our signings are not (so far) spectacular, no neon marquee names, just good solid pros with (mostly) Championship experience .. at the VERY least I expect us to be well clear of the relegation zone .. that might sound negative, but so what, who expects us to get promoted this season ?

You’ve made some half decent signings but so have nearly everyone else. This league is always evolving. It’s relentless at times and it’s a job just to keep up. Lincsaddick said:

Promoted lol no chance I think we need 2-3 more bigger signings and maybe a loan or 2 proper class to even compete and get clear of the bottom teams.
  • I'm feeling optimistic, but optimistic for me will be solid mid table and free from threat of relegation by late Feb. Somewhere 11th to 14th, but in all honesty first season back I'll settle for anywhere above 20th! We aren't going to trouble the top 3, and highly unlikely the top 6 but we always dream. Just give me a solid season of progress.

i'm feeling optimistic coz i spoke to another couple of millwall fans yesterday who were worried - again, both don't rate coburn and couldn't believe u paid £3.5m + on him and said ivanovic was good but not great - you've never scored many goals i guess so looks like that won't be changing - its gonna be tough but i'm confident NJ can mould a functional, hard working team probably similar to you lot and thats got you to comfortable upper mid table - i think we need to sign another player who takes players on and creates and i think we need to push the boat out for the right player - if we do, i think we'll be fine

It’s not just about the signings, it’s just as important to not lose key players and loans that were making a fundamental difference to teams last season who will have gone back, as well as other players will have already moved on, or will be poached by bigger clubs before the window is closed. We’ve lost Small so far but, with little end product, he probably won’t be missed. The signings we’ve made so far tend to indicate we are building and not likely to entertain any bids for players we want to keep, unless they are too good to turn down of course.

We did a lot of business in January so only need a few tweeks this window.

I know you don’t rate Coburn or now Ivanovich (or rather your ‘Millwall mates’ don’t) but if you had taken our league form from january, which is incidentally when Alex Neil took over, and both Coburn and Ivanovich became regulars in the team, then we would have finished 5th. Which bodes well for next season. But it’s a funny old game as the great man once said so we’ll see.

I think you’ll be challenging for the play offs this season, I think we’ll be ok but not as comfortable as a lot seem to think. I think anything above 16th would be a bit of a miracle and 17th-20th a lot more likely

I’ve never seen either player play

  • 21st on goal difference is what I’d take, just survive and consolidate

Are you thinking Ivanovich stays despite all this supposed interest from aboard? Would be a big gap to try and fill.
  • Millwall can win the league for all I care.
If we stay up that is all that matters.
Of course we want to have a better season than Millwall, but that is a sideshow, the key issue is survival or relegation.

I think we’ve got him for another season. But I’m not ITK or anything. Just a hunch

Agreed. The business we’ve done so far can  best be described as “solid but unspectacular”. I wasn’t expecting much more in the window by this point, but still feel this season is going to be a really tough slog and our current spot amongst the favourites to go down is about right.

Is that feeling based upon every other team in the Championship this season is obviously much better and stronger than Charlton, not had to change their manager, don’t have any financial or other issues to contend with, haven’t lost any key players or loans so far and have all made much better signings in this transfer window so far ?
  • I would love a mid-table finish, as that usually means you're in with a chance of the playoffs even in April in this league. But my expectation is that we flirt with the bottom 3 for a bit and end up finishing in the bottom third of the table, 17th or 18th, and I would be made up with that as we'd then be able to go again and improve and hopefully slowly build up a good championship squad
