Apter seems more of an out and out winger to me. I wonder if we'll shift to 343... TC on one side apter on the other?
So we would have to bench 2 out of Godden, Olaofe and Leaburn!!!!
I don’t think we have signed Olaofe to sit on the bench
Probably correct, but equally you could argue if we'd just signed Godden and Leaburn from league one teams that we wouldn't have signed them for the bench either.
It's a good problem for Jones to have.
We certainly needed more depth compared to last year, regardless of the fact that we can name nine subs now.
Burke is the only signing that really worries me because of his injuries.
For me if we've paid £2m or more for Apter than it would have been better spent on Galbraith, who to me looks like the real deal.
Maybe he just didn't want to come, but to me his credentials are far stronger than Apter's.
Still no stand out signing for me. I worry where the goals will come from in this squad. No proven championship striker, given Godden's age.
I'm still excited that it will be championship football this season though, but I suspect we will be witnessing more grind out results football from us. Hopefully we can finish 21st.
Completely different players though. Galbraith is a midfielder really and when he played RWB for Orient he would come inside and add numbers to the midfield and often drive through the middle. If we'd signed him he would have been used as a midfielder and I would suggest it's Rankin-Costello we signed instead when we missed out. The biggest hole in our squad at the moment is that we don't have a replacement for Small, someone who can play high up the pitch on the right wing, beat his man, come in on his left foot and provide a threat that forces opposition teams deep on both sides so they can't just double up on TC and neutralise our threat in transitions. Apter has played as a wingback for Blackpool and he'd fit into the lopsided 352 we played last season as well as a 343 in either the midfield or the front 3 if that's the way Jones is going. The thing that changed our season was adding width and speed on the right and that's what Apter should bring but not what Galbraith would have offered.
I doubt very much if our spending is coming from general income or player sales. That signals to me we are either stacking up debt, or are being bankrolled by philanthropic rich people, Personally given our history I always feel unsettled by the club being financially vulnerable, and a lot of the money side of things we’re invited to take on trust. That is another reason I am a big fan of developing our own players, it is cheaper and can often pay off with transfer fees incoming.
We could’ve offered 5 million for Galbraith - he was still choosing Swansea. I’m not sure what kind of absurd contract offer it would’ve taken but it definitely would not have been good value for the club.

I know people didn’t like Wellens’ comments but we would have been a poor move for Galbraith. He’s brilliant with the ball at his feet so why would he want to sign for a team that will be lucky to have it 40% of the time in some games
Gailbraith was only ever going to Swansea, we could have offered whatever we liked and it wouldn't have mattered. I don't even buy the style of play nonsense from Wellens , he had his head turned in Jan and despite Swansea sacking Luke Williams there was only one club he was ever going to.
The comp isn't Apter , it's JRC and anyone else we will bring into that CM group.

To my mind, NJ signs players as a squad member - it's up to each player to prove and establish his 1st team place.
Also remember, there are 'starting roles and finishing roles' plus 'game changers'. They all need to be 1st team quality.
Apart from development prospects, NJ is only signing 1st team players not reserves.

Like last year, I'd imagine goals will come from all over the pitch. Godden is a proven Championship striker. And yes - we will grind out results - it's what got us promoted. And it's what will hopefully keep us up.

And apart from the high wage, Galbraith would not want to be here.
Nothing worse than an unhappy player in the dressing room.

Being in the Championship is worth around an additional £11m in TV money and whatever else it covers, excluding increased season ticket sales and other revenue from more fans coming to games, so I wouldn’t be too worried that we’re stacking up big debts. It’s a big step up in revenue vs L1.
The other benefit of the Championship is a good season from a young player can mean they’re worth a huge fee, especially attacking players. I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up funding even bigger spending next summer partly from a big sale.

The tv money in 9m more in the Championship compared to league one.
What are we saying would make a perfect window for incomings?
One more Attacking midfielder and a striker?
I’m still a bit concerned about cover for Coventry, can JRC play that holding role? I wouldn’t trust Docherty there in the championship where in league 1 he could have maybe done a job covering it
I’d go with a centre mid and a big physical striker. Attacking mid we have Carey and Berry so I think another incoming there is less likely

Yeah I'd say an attacking midfielder and a striker would round it out. I know we have Berry and Carey but I just get the suspicion from NJs comments after Dartford about the top end of the pitch options that we aren't done yet there if he wants to have the option to play 3421.
A godden regen would be nice a proper goalscorer fox in the box type or with proper pace, think we are covered for the physical types In Olaofe and leaburn.

It’s unlikely to be as simple as choosing between Galbraith and Apter. Perhaps the final win meant they became very awkward to deal with as a club.
They are not really even the same style of player, they have different attributes.
They are just capable of playing the same position of RWB, which is probably not even their preferred or best position

Whenever we needed a goal last year we brought Aneke on and went very direct. Most of the time it worked
I don’t think Leaburn or Olaofe are that type of player, despite both having great physical attributes. I’d still like a target man type striker but maybe could see Leaburn being developed into that instead
Left wing back cover is maybe another gap. Though we do have JRC, Bell and maybe Asiimwe that can play there if needed
My hunch is that either Asiimwe or Enslin are the cover for LWB (Bell reportedly too slow now), I am worried about that if Edwards gets a season ender in September

Yeah I get that side of it too a big battering ram of a player does free up others in games late on as evident last season just think if godden suffers a bit with stepping up again and age it would be nice to have competition in a proper goalscorer who could learn from him and give him rest.

I think that's where Doch played for Hull in the champ. NJ brought him in to play further forward and questions still remain about how effective he is in that new role.

Docherty doesn’t have the range of passing to play there .
