Live in a small market town outside Milton Keynes. Walked in to local shop with my Charlton shirt on recently. A guy came up to me and said “You’ve got the new shirt already” turns out he was a Charlton fan too. Lives in the same town. Was showing each other pictures of Wembley win. Small world. Thought I was the only one where I lived.
Just wanted to check in with others who might have met other Charlton fans in unexpected situations.
Living in Sheffield, the other day I was sat in my neighbours garden. I'd just made a round of brews for me, neighbour and his mate. At which point the visiting mate spots my Charlton mug and says, "Who's the Charlton fan?" I explain it's me, before he drops a bombshell (it is to me) that a mate of his is also a Charlton fan. A brief text message exchange results in said Charlton fan turning up at the garden meetup.
As it goes, this lad lives in the same area of Sheffield as me.
Unremarkable you might think but his back story is lovely. He was a kid at school in Sheffield 20 years ago, when his mates were all picking teams to support. Not wanting to pick a fanshionable top 4 club, he picked Charlton and his love affair took off.
He has since gone to games all over the country.. His knowledge of the high and lows was extensive, as was his views and reviews of games and squads over the years he's been watching.
The remarkable aspect for me, is that he doesn't know a single other fan socially and has travelled all by himself.
Not that it is relevant, but he is a lad of Pakistani heritage, thus most of his friends are into other sports, hence none show any interest in his Charlton musings.
Wondered where anyone else might have struck up a conversation with a fellow Addick, out of the blue, away from the football community.
Lovely to hear I’m not the only Charlton fan in Sheffield! Usually when I’m asked who I support it’s greeted with a blank expression and the odd ‘Wasn’t Curbishley your manager?’
I’ve lived very close to Sheffield for over a decade and work all over the city and have never come across another Charlton fan so fantastic to hear there is at least 3 of us.
I’m just north, not far from Leeds. A few of us scattered around Yorkshire I believe.
Me, my brother and Dad all live in Halifax.
I have met plenty of Yorkshire Addicks. We have a group on Facebook "Yorkshire Addicks", quite a few on there if you want to join.
I work in sales and had sent a proposal to a school in a rural part of New Zealand. A few weeks later, I received a call from the principal, who said they were interested in discussing it further. He then admitted to having stalked me on Facebook - which was a little unexpected - and noticed that I followed Charlton. It turned out this was also his team while he lived in London, and he still follows them.
Did you get the sale?!
🙋♂️
Yes. And although I don’t manage the account anymore, I still sent him a text after the playoff final win.
We moved out to the darkest depths of West Berkshire when I was 10. For years I was sure I was the only Charlton fan anywhere around and wore it like a badge of honour - always kitted out in shirts, Charlton bootbag for PE, giving all my mates grief for being glory hunters, etc. After being there for 7 years we moved house - literally just around the corner on the next street - and found ourselves two doors down from an older chap and his wife who were Addicks! Absolutely blew my mind - I think he used to be quite involved with the club organising coaches down to games and stuff like that. From then on we'd always have a chat on the doorstep each week (mostly about our rapid decline) - amazing how much of a sense of connection can come from something so simple.
Sadly no longer in touch as we've all moved away and I'm back in London but someone I often think of in relation to CAFC.
On a cruise around the baltics and met a Charlton fan. He was sitting behind me in the coach and saw I was on Charlton life. Had a good chat about last season and hopes for this

did anyone introduce themselves when you were looking at Pornhub earlier.
I was at the Reach climbing wall and saw a bloke with a Charlton cap on, we had a good charlton related chat. I asked if he was on CL, he wasn't. I never went back!
I might have posted this before on another thread, but was in Thailand on honeymoon years back and everywhere we went the guys on the street were constantly "English? What team? Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd?". I was just like "nah, none of those" as i assumed no one would know us. Got hassled with the same question again and I broke "no mate Charlton Athletic ". Was expecting the fella to piss off but he just reeled off player names "Kiely, Young, Kinsella, Holland..." really made me laugh!

I didn't recognise him at first.
