  • What happened to Vingegaard there? Seemed to completely fall apart. Great ride from Remco as expected, a shame Ganna had to pull out as would have loved to see how he could do
  • Nice Bastille day for these islands off the coast of Europe.
Simon Yates with the stage, Oscar Onley still in the top ten and a great ride for Ben Healy to take yellow.

And what with the cricket result not a bad day sport wise.
  • Delighted to see Fred Wright in a break, such a likeable guy and needs a good result in his contract gear
  • Anybody on here been over to France to see it live?
The small town we lived in here in France hosted a stage start in September 2020 (delayed due to Covid). It was great fun.

The sponsors, the preparations, the whole place was wild.

Our flat was on the route and after visiting everything we had prime places to watch the off!

  • Pogacar is just ridiculous... This Tour is over!!
  • Pogacar is just ridiculous... This Tour is over!!
It's a shame for the race but he is just the best in the world.
If he continues like this he will be classed as one of the greatest ever. And some would argue he already is.

  • After the race Macron was shaking Pogacars hand for a rather excessive and probably awkward 31 seconds!!

I think he already is personally. Obviously he has the technical and dietary advantages that others haven’t but to be so dominant and have his palmares at the age of 26 is frightening. I’m sure he’ll win the Vuelta this year too

Still not convinced he is not doping, when you watch the body language of the other cyclists when they talk about him it’s like they can’t say what they’re thinking.

If he is it will come out at some point

Thing is that if he is doping I think most of the others are too and he just is that much better. On a related note it’s interesting that none of the UK press have picked up the story published about Froome in Ireland over the weekend

    What's happened with Froome?

Massive simplification but his magic masseuse that he raved about has been exposed for doping links and all of a sudden Froome has delighted the large digital footprint of him praising him and is blocking anyone who mentions it. Even if he is innocent it’s not a good look

Be a shame if that's the case...

Wonder how eager Cycling will be to look into it, or these latest years if there are issues with Pogacar and Vingegaard. Given the Armstrong scandal, the event is just going to have large gaps over the last couple of decades, and is going to be a terrible look for the Sport that might be disastrous for its reputation.
  • I actually don’t think many of the current riders are doping, there isn’t much need to. The potential cheating is mechanical but there’s a pilot scheme x-raying bikes at the moment, the issue is you can’t x-ray a whole peleton.

My doping hot take is that football has the biggest doping problem in sport because it’s never discussed

Surely if football had a big doping problem there'd be plenty of players spat out of the gravy train of big money that would be desperate to sell their doping stories to the press?
  • Just caught up on the highlights, some rides from Remco and Onley. Been massively impressed by both so far

Just read this is the last year of the tour that's on free to air TV. Such a shame. It's coverage is imo probably the best sports coverage there is around nowadays.

Like all sports it seems it will be hidden away apart from those who can and want to afford it. When I was a kid it meant so much to see live sports reason why I ended up loving so many.and for others it's a reason why they ended up playing those sports. The "elite" are taking all of them. They would rather lose talent that could of been inspired by free to air sports (not just cycling) coverage for a quick buck and an advert.

Meanwhile the greasy UAE have another tour won. Sigh.
  • Yup. Will greatly miss the entire ITV4 team.

Without wishing to bring up the doping conversation again I think ITV are planning on doing something on the Froome related story on today's rest day show. Just flagging as I know people flag the rest day show and I'm sure any discussion will be informative

All you need to do is learn Irish and move to Ireland (or maybe west Wales), and watch it on TG4...
