Be nice to get that Spanish lad Pozo we played against today. A big upgrade from Docherty in that 8 position.
I’ve got a feeling Doc will prove to be a more effective championship player than league one this year.

Could be affected by a change in personnel around him, but that’s my hunch
I'm not sure what he brings to the party. I'd like to see Mustapha who could be eased into the side slowly. Not seen him but reports suggest he is a 6, 8, or even a 10. Only 19 but a big guy.

He got injured that's a no go now I reckon.

You’d rather a kid who’s unproven plays over our club captain?
  • If we wanted to replace Doc as a starter I'd want someone with Champ experience or someone from the top end of League 1 who could kick on.

Better than 1 in 3 for P2 as a midfielder and was in line for PoS. Two full international caps.

The Doc however barely got above midway in Statbank at L1 and I've never seen him have a decent game.

I'm recycling previous rumours from posters who have seen him play.

I like your posts Sam, but have you seen him play to sufficiently dismiss him, or do you just enjoy having a pop at me personally?

I'm not having a pop mate I'm just saying I don't get the view that he's going to be better than Doc, especially as you haven't seen him play. I also haven't seen him play but if he's that good, I'm inclined to believe he should then be on the fringes for the Stripey Nigel's, or more teams in our league will be in for him.

I've seen Doc have decent games, Northampton away he tore them a new one, and a number of other games last season his pressing and forward running and passing led to goals and assists that won games.

Isn’t that why we brought in Rankin-Costello

Not sure when he sustained the injury, but today until 31August is six weeks and two days. Result!!!

I just don't think we're done with CM options yet. JRC could be the replacement/competition but I wouldn't be surprised if there was another option brought in.

You want to replace doc with someone who has championship experience. Maybe we should replace doc with doc then!

I don't think the statbank is a very good way to assess how good players actually are. It assesses fans opinions very well but it's also constantly skewed by agendas, excessive reactions straight after games when emotions are still high, people watching on streams where they can't see players' full contributions and just narrow judgments of what a player's role is. It takes the temperature of the fanbase but it's not a full assessment of what a player brought to a game and it doesn't try to be. There's a reason Docherty made 43 appearances, most of them starts, in a season where we won the Play-offs and got promoted and if you never saw him have a decent game in that period then you either didn't watch enough games or weren't paying enough attention. I don't think we went up in spite of our captain never having a decent game
Over the course of a season,  and with a sizeable voting base,  it's an excellent record. 46 games and hundreds of votes,  that's a decent sample.

Docherty was fine,  but was correctly ranked well down when compared to other players. If he steps up, great, but as per last season he's far more replaceable than Jones, Ramsay. Gillesphey,  TC, Coventry and Godden.

He didn’t have a decent game at Northampton away last season? Doc second half of the season was a machine in that midfield, goes unnoticed but is no way as bad as some are making out.
    This
  • I'm not saying Doc is bad or won't have a role to play but with chatter that we aren't done midfield wise and having already brought Carey in to play as a 10 plus JRC as a utility player who can play in there it does feel like any midfielder that comes in will be competing with Doc/Coventry.

  • Mad that we’re still talking about Mustapha when the rumour came from one of the most unreliable rumour accounts I’ve ever seen

Yeah it sounds like people are putting that unreliable account and a rumour from the other site about a PL loan together and getting Mustapha.

We definitely need more quality in midfield there’s no denying it, we have too many of the same profile but that suits NJ high press which makes it difficult. A Gilbert type ( maybe he’d be an option) would be what I’d be looking for.

I'm not sure if we'll bring in another attacking midfielder with Carey here, Apter another option in that position and Fullah coming through.

It's been said quite a few of our players will be better in the championship than league one even the ones that have never played in it, reckon on that basis we should get promoted and win it this year.
Champions League winners in five years.

Yeah it's a good sample, but the question is what it's a sample of. It's a sample of people's reaction to a result and very few scrutinise the players in depth and don't do it with access to much information beyond what they saw, which means that you don't get information on things like the amount of running a player put in off the ball when you make your choice. I don't disagree with what you've said about Docherty, I wish he offered more on the ball and he's a player we should be looking to put in some competition for (JRC is likely that) and improve on, but then we should look to improve on all our players wherever possible.

We were the third best team in the league last season so coming midway down the statbank doesn't mean a player was bad by any stretch. I think Dale Stephens was 10th in our statbank in 11/12 for example. Johnnie Jackson scored 12 goals, got 6 assists and finished 8th. They were both brilliant and key parts of a successful team, even if there were individuals who did better or were more eye-catching. Doc similarly was 8th. I'm all for trading up on players but as much as I appreciate the statbank it's not a true indicator of a player's value to the team's setup. I think that's reflected in the fact we've got a poster claiming he never had a decent game - and potentially contributed to those stats. Opinions are valid but they do tend to skew the stats a bit
  • I would love Kellyman on loan from Chelsea. Perfect CAM for NJ's system. I don't know if Chelsea is thinking to send him on loan mind, but can't see him playing much there. This season at least.
