Watford at home 9th Aug

  • The early kick off, TV coverage, and being in the holiday season makes the attendance hard to predict.
I think it will hover around the 20k mark.
  • Doubt we'll break 20k

    18, 500
Would be disappointed if that is the tickets sold number IMO. 10k season tickets + Watford tickets sold is already about 13.5k. Would hope our first match in the championship and all the excitement that brings would shift more than 5k match day ticket sold.
Happy for us to find new ways of revenue, but 13.5k away fans is ridiculous. Jimmy Seed will be packed!
  • We got an abnormally high crowd for the first home game last season against Orient, so hoping that will repeat for this one but even if so suspect it will barely scramble past 20k.

A lot of the tickets will be sold in the last week or so I imagine as many people won’t really be turning too much attention to it yet.

Would think it will then drop for Leicester

Wasn’t that high and, as it turned out, it was lower than the average for the season.
  • weren't they going to experiment with some away fans in the upper west? if watford could sell a couple of thousand up there, why not take the money?

It would have been so they could close the JS, no chance the club want over 3k away fans in the ground

I'm never sure this holiday season reason ever stands up for the opening games.

Yes some people may go away at this time, but the vast majority don't. With better weather, no game for months before it, a bigger lead time to plan, excitement of the new season it probably gets more of the non fully committed supporters along than an equivalent game later in the season
  • Yeah sod that giving the away team more support.

Pompey on the 6th December maybe…
  • So, when it sold out for Watford, will the club restrict the sale of tickets in the home end by taking it off general sale?
we still have to save Leyton Orients allocation for them remember😉

circa £60,000 a game - do that for 10 games this season, that's half a million by the time you've taken a bit off for extra stewarding or whatever - if we are selling 20,000 home tickets i wouldn't bother but if the glory boys desert us after a bad start and we're half empty, might be worth  considering.

Close but it will be 22,378 as my mate Charlie is on holiday.

it was more about the actual number of people inside the ground, it was visibly high that day in particular when compared with fixtures that followed over the next couple of months

I think this was put out when Charlie boy was with us.

The idea probably followed him out of the door.

I’d hope that the crowd will be around 24k for our first home game back in the Championship. I’d personally be disappointed if it were any less after the clamour for tickets for the Wycombe game then Wembley.
Traditionally first game of the season gates are usually a bit ‘below’ what one might expect.
A lot of no shows at this time of the year, always has been the case and always will be.
As per usual, there will be a significant difference between tickets sold and actual bums on seats, it depends on which figure the club puts out I guess.

I hear Mount Pleasant in Jamaica is nice

I sincerely hope you are right. But it isn't Wembley is it. We're keep the club going till the next visit.

A combination of early kick off, live on tv, plus a lot of people still away on holiday means it'll be tough to get close to that.

    I think it'll be around 19-20k.

Not in the last couple of years when the opening game has had higher attendance than others

    I agree with this
  • would like to think the first one can break through the 20k barrier - I think the 'announced' will do so, but will be slightly less in the ground on the day

Orient at home last season was lower than the average for the season so definitely not a higher attendance

Let's say it settles at 12k ST and 3k away that's already 15k. Quite a few tickets already sold, so I think we should be able to break 20,000.

Walk ups on the day will be interesting as we continue to penalise late purchasers.
I’m not even sure we’ll get many walk ups this season. When away teams sell out, it normally goes to existing database only, which will happen a lot this season.

Though it doesn’t seem Charlton have done this since Watford sold out last week…

The two games you mentioned were full of wives, girlfriends, partners, grandparents and grandchildren. There won’t be the same enthusiasm for a bog standard league game however I am expecting at least 20k
    No husbands or boyfriends?

I think the opposite. I think we'll get quite a few walk ups because it feels like a lot of people will wait and see what time the kick off is (12.30, 3, 5.30 etc) before deciding if they can make it.

Plus if we're doing reasonably well, people will naturally want to come.

It was more promotion that killed the idea.

If I catch Elton John sneakily sitting in a home seat, he'll have Blue Eyes by the end of the game.
