Marc Leonard being linked with Huddersfield and says a few championship clubs are interested, hopefully we’re one of them.
We should be all over that, sounds like a permanent deal too and would fit our signing players with potential for resale brief

Nothing today but you may have missed at the weekend, ForeverAddickted thought we were signing Laurel and Hardy.

The next time someone says 'we need to sign a target man' when we have Olaofe, Leaburn and Mbick on the staff, I will scream
Olaofe is 5’11 and even Challinor was saying how he likes playing on the last defender and getting in behind, Mbick is 18 and nowhere near ready, Leaburn has injuries issues and despite being 6’7 plays more like a technical winger than you’re typical target man who links play. Like it or not a target man makes more sense than getting another smaller pacy striker
Who are the good target men we’ve had in living memory ? Kermorgant, Andy Hunt ? The guy with Pink Hair
    Deon Burton

We're all hoping Kelman signs, not for his footballing skills, but just to see how @ForeverAddickted gets himself out of the tatooist, tackle intact,,,😂😂😂
  • The Charlton Life doctor would need to check that tatoo with his/her microscope

  • Blackpool manager Steve Bruce has claimed that Rob Apter “quadrupled” his wages after his transfer to Charlton Athletic.

The 22-year-old winger made the move to SE7 on Thursday. No fee was disclosed but the deal is believed to be worth in excess of £2million

  • He was probably getting paid f all… now he’s getting 4x f all
  • Ron Saunders was a small centre forward but I was amazed at how good he was in the air. He seemed to specialise in the diving header.
an example of an 'aging' striker who still 'had it' .. he was well into his 30s when he joined us .. the great Eddie Firmani was 30 when he re-joined (for the 1st time) after his long spell in Italy.  He was 34 on re-joining us for the second time and was still banging in the goals

Yes, there are some...... But to see who they are, you first need to read through 30 pages.

    We had to! 😝
  • 39 million in losses over 3 seasons.
    13 million per season.
The above is not the same as spending 39 million over 3 seasons in player acquisition / 13 million per season.
  • Have to be careful though, can’t just spend the whole £13m allowed on transfer fees. Promotion bonuses and increased wages contribute too. I am assuming in the next 12 months or so we’ll need to sell someone, hopefully because we’ve had a great season and that player can go for a big fee like Esse did

Respectfully though, there isn't much point investing in football if you aren't taking risks, that's just the nature of the beast. It's a race to the Prem and nothing else matters. All financial losses otherwise.

Plenty of clubs now look well run and sustainable by taking massive risks and paying a lot of money (Brighton, Bournemouth, Forest, Fulham, Villa etc) and then plenty get bitten on the arse (Derby, Wednesday, Hull etc)

One certainty in football though, is that if you don't spend, you'll either stagnate or drop down the leagues. It is extremely unlikely/borderline impossible now to progress as a football club without competing in the market, whether people like it or not.

But that's enough from me on money, I like the business we are doing and I am happy with it, just pointing out it would be nice if some of these links actually happen as they're very low risk in the grand scheme of football money, and potentially very high reward in the long run.

    Back to the rumours 👍🏻

Yes, there are some...... But to see who they are, you first need to read through 30 pages.

    We had to! 😝
Its always a bit odd for someone to come on and post that they cant be bothered to read all the other posts that are non-transfer related, when they are adding to those pages of non-transfer related posts. Its crazy, thank goodness I would never be found guilty of doing that myself.
    Neither would I mate...sod it..🤦‍♂️

I make oggy right - it’s not an information service on here, it’s a discussion board and people moaning about discussions around transfers should remember that

It’s the same every transfer thread.

Everyone who signs up to this forum on the whole do it because they are a Charlton fan, and they want to discuss Charlton. The summer rumours thread is always going to be one of the most active threads in the off season, and naturally that means that people will be drawn to it and lots of views and counter views will be posted and tangents will happen within that. That is just the way it is.

It miffs me to see the same names complain about  this each transfer window.

I believe it was asked in reference to recent times. Even Leaburn was 30 years ago.

    £13.9M loss in 23/24.
How much of the loss was on player acquisition?
