  • Just been messaging my friend who's married to a Spanish woman and is over there visiting her family at the moment (proper Spanish town not a tourist town). Says there's been basically no interest in the game there. No one talking about it, no flags up, no meeting at the pub to watch it...
  • Well done girls! Kelly’s the only decent penalty out of the 9. Who cares though.

Didn't you see the sub Charles pen ?
Kelly penalty strike was the hardest hit ball in this year's Euros. She hit a pen hard like that which beat unlucky Nigeria in the WC KO.
Was really impressed with Charles when she came in & her peno was excellent 👌
  • I live in the Algarve 20km from the Spanish border and watched the game in our local Irish bar. I was expecting a fair few Spaniards to be supporting their team but just one young girl, probably in her late teens, showed up in her teams shirt. Tbf, she took the (friendly) stick in good spirits!

Really enjoyed watching the women's team and I am well chuffed for them!
  • Could Lucy Bronze be our new RWB?
  • A brief comment from Fanny to say for the first time, we watched most of the semi final & the entire match tonight.

Whilst the men's game will be always be no 1 by far for us, we were impressed by the women & will look forward to their next big tournament, the World Cup in Brazil in 2027.

They were a credit to our country & as other Lifers have stated tonight, it was a pleasure to watch them in contrast to the England men whose matches we usually switch off these days.

Surprised to see Carter in for Morgan but hopefully she proves me wrong

If we can take our chances from 35% possession then it's possible but Spain are a better passing team and are favourites.

No surprise for me with the stats where England had 35.1% possession.

Bit like most of the UK then
  • Can we all agree, the ref wouldn’t have looked out of place in league one last season?
  • Got tickets for Boxpark Wembley for this Sunday. My daughters are so excited! Looking forward to it.

Russo’s not a looker is she
I suspect she wouldn’t give a damn for your opinion of her looks and probably wouldn’t consider you to be too much of an oil painting.
I think you missed the joke mate, relax.

2027 in Brazil will be a biggy for Serena, finalists in the last two world cups. Really looking forward to it and hoping for a Serena vEmma final.

What a great performance this tournament .. under 5 minutes in the lead across the knock out stages, a real back to the walls performance from such a together team.

I was at Wembley in 2022, should have been with my fellow ST holder but he was ill and died the next day having seen them spiritually across the line. So the women's team have an emotional investment for me for this reason.

England beating Emma Hayes in the final would be absolutely brilliant.

Maybe wind your neck in and look at the scarf

Humour backfiring once again on CL - I did think everyone would understand it.
  • I noticed that the tv pundits were saying (more than once) yesterday that the Lionesses are the only England team to win a tournament overseas, forgetting in their eagerness to heap praise on the women that the England under 21s won their Euros in Slovakia only 5 weeks ago. And also that the under 17s and under 20s have even won World Cups overseas within the last 10 years. I get that they were understandably excited about the result but these people are on tv supposedly as football experts and ought to know their stuff. Today the BBC has moderated its line to the Lionesses being the first "senior" team to achieve this feat but ITV hasn't. Must be a bit annoying for the under 21 team to know their victorious run has so quickly been forgotten.

Having said that, I've thoroughly enjoyed watching the  women's Euros and of course was jumping up and down when we won like every other England fan. I started attending women's matches last season with my daughter.  It's only when you attend a game in person that you can truly appreciate the athleticism, speed and skill of the players. Watching it on tv isn't the same. The top women's game may not be at the level of the top men's game but the great thing about sport is that you can appreciate and enjoy it at whatever level it's played, from kids to veterans.  You just factor the physical capabilities of the players into your expectations. God knows, I've learnt that from many decades following Charlton!
  • I assume they meant senior England team.
