A taxi left Sparrows at about 17:30 last night and headed towards Eltham Park Station.
Eltham Park Station that is a blast from the past.
What a nice station it was with its covered walkways. From recollection, the last time I used it was on the way back from Fulham Away.
Happy memories of walking through the station to Eltham Park. We used to see how far we get along the wall without touching the ground. Anyone remember the open air swimming pool in the park? The sun always seemed to shine but the water was invariably freezing.
I used to live in Eltham park gardens We went swimming 🏊♂️ before work for free in the summer, bloody freezing though, anyone remember the prefabs all alongside the park ?
The prefabs - yes I do, that really is a blast from way back when

Ah, at last ..... a proper Charlton Life post with a train
I remember well Eltham Park station, and using the Bexleyheath line. Opened in 1908 and with more impressive adornment, especially to appeal to the more refined prospective buyers envisaged of the new Corbett Estate, then being built around it.
When first opened, superior to other stations on the line, it even had available a 1st class ticket holder facility, plus separate Ladies waiting rooms with toilets. Even during the late 60s, 70s and early 80s when I knew it, it still retained a faded elegance.
It was closed in 1985 with the widening of the A2 and the building of the new Eltham station across the road from Eltham Well Hall station, also closed at the same time.
Things you didn't know you needed to know - part 3
Nice early photo of Kidbrooke station with RAF Kidbrooke in the background .
Cracking photo.
Kidbrooke was my Mum's local station when she used to commute to London, late 40s/early 50s.
Could actually see Doc and JRC start alongside Coventry in midfield against Watford
Would be amazed by that, there's no attacking focal point to that midfield
Especially considering we’re at home and Watford aren’t exactly the strongest of sides. This is a game where we really need to aim for all 3 points rather than 1. JRC vs Doc for the 8 probablt splits a few peoples opinion im guessing we will only know for sure before the final pre season game of the season.

Maybe so, but having JRC in the midfield allows him to cover the right side a bit more to allow Apter to get further forward and not leave Ramsay too exposed. It also allows Doc and Coventry to be in midfield and then maybe Doc get to the edge of the box a bit more.
At first it might seem a little defensive, but I don't think NJ will want us too open too soon in the first game of the new season. He will want us front footed, sure, but that midfield still allows others to bring creativity through the team.

Agree with the above, we need to adjust our mindset. We are not going to go into many games as favourites this season so we may well see that midfield three to make us more solid.

Think he will rely on Ramsay to be the defensive cover on the right just as with Small last year. For me the midfield will be Coventry, Doc/JRC and Carey because of his pressing and willingness to get stuck in. Then, if he signs, Knibbs will become the starting 10
Surprised at how much we've spent this window - hoping the majority of the signings work out.
Feel pretty confident we'll stay up given how much stronger the squad is.
I think we could have stayed up with the team we had at Wembley, seems that this ownership is very ambitious.
Am a bit disappointed that the owners haven't promised us Europe in 5 years yet
I don't think we'd have done much but just stay up, but I think the top half of league one could get some decent results against the bottom half of The Championship.
Knibbs is an established high end League 1 player who is ready for the championship.
Karoy wouldn't be able to stand out like Knibbs has in League 1 and look as comfortable for 3 seasons in a row, especially with those attacking numbers. Sorry but it's true.
Whether or not Karoy gets better we don't know, but right now he's not even close to him or similar.
you can still compare the two without saying they're identical. I also see a lot of similarities with Knibbs being a much more rounded player clearly
Yeah but to say they're the same player except for the goals, come on.
Harvey Knibbs will more or less be a guaranteed starter in a championship side this season, Karoy was a bench player for a League 1 promoted side.
Karoy has a decent ceiling, but I have seen nothing of Karoy to suggest he is similar to Knibbs.
Maybe I am underrating him, but saying he is Knibbs without the goals is overrating him for sure imo.
I didn’t realise my comparison would cause such a stir. I thought it obvious that Knibbs is the clearly better player right now.
My point was more that, playing in that role behind the strikers, they will play very similar games when out of possession. What Knibbs has above and beyond Karoy is the ability to pick a pass or finish a chance with more regularity than Karoy can (at the moment).
I get the feeling NJ absolutely LOVES Karoy but has to resort to using him mainly off the bench until he (Karoy) can find a way to contribute more going forwards. He’s great at breaking the game up and playing against tiring legs but less effective when the onus is on him to do something clever with the ball after he wins it.
Until then, having Knibbs harrying and creating for 75 minutes followed by Anderson coming on as his substitute to maintain that tempo for the last 15-20 minutes sounds about as close to ideal for a Nathan Jones team as you could wish for.

I think Sage is pretty spot on with what NJ will start off with. It may seem conservative, but hes a safety first manager. I have a feeling JRC will be more than just a fella who runs around a lot and gets stuck in too. Blackburn fans pretty complementary about his attacking intent if I remember correctly?
Either way, will be interesting to see how line up and how NJ uses the different attacking options we now have. COYA

Jones also seems like a manager who’ll not throw anyone in from the start until he thinks they’re ready.

This thread is morphing into "All our yesterday's"...🙄
There is no way on earth I was expecting a window like this. Especially Christmas time last year, tbh even after we won at Wembley I wouldn’t have thought we’d have a window like this.
Feels kind of surreal, only felt like this when we had Curbs…Powell and Bowyer were great times but always some shit show in the background.
Bolton being linked with Ahadme and just signing Burstow really shows how it was for us not so long ago. Tough sheet for them I guess
