Feel like the rules changed on shorts a season or two ago but could be wrong. Though probably wouldn't be able to register the same colour shorts for 2 kits with the EFL anyway.

Old rules were you could have the same shorts etc but I think now they're more strict with kit clashes.

I know a few years ago FIFA decided all kits at the World Cup must be "light" or "dark" which is why we started wearing all white, France wore all blue and Argentina switched to white home shorts instead of black. Thankfully they saw sense and scrapped it

The women's team have worn black shorts as part of their home kit for the last few years, so at a guess the third kit shorts are likely to be black? Otherwise we'll end up with 4 colours, only 3 of which will be on sale to fans.

I thought the women wearing black shorts were because of a different reason. I know a few teams have adopted darker shorts for their womens teams, so to protect the women from being worried about bleeding/periods etc. showing up, as it would be much more obvious on lighter and white shorts.

I bought a couple of "moody" charlton shirts from ali express (both from different sellers). They only cost a fiver each and they're just decorative, used as seat covers in my truck. The first one had none of the black splatter marks on it, and the badge was (printed) too small, and the black trim on the arms looked too wide. The second one was a bit better, but I think the badge looks too big. Both are very poorly made, very thin material (can't compare it with an authentic one until I get one next weekend). Neither had the reebok logo.

Yes, that's the reason. The whole of the women's game is moving towards dark coloured shorts. The thing is that we've specifically adopted black as part of the home kit so the women are going to wear black even if that isn't one of the three official colours.

As part of the trend towards dark coloured shorts, the various leagues no longer worry about teams playing in the same coloured shorts as long as the shirts and socks contrast clearly, so there only needs to be one dark colour. There's no law that says they can't play in colours that the club doesn't sell replicas of, but it would be a bit of a shame if girls inspired by watching the women's team can't get a full replica women's kit.
